My husband is a nursing student and looked into med school. It certainly is attainable with your degree, but you would have to take some other science courses first. If you're passionate enough about it, you are on the right path and working as a nurse through medical school would be helpful for paying the bills. Just a piece of advice, don't cut yourself short because of a few science classes and dont let anyone tell you that it's not attainable!

Thank you for sharing your experience with me. You're right, two years is such a short amount of time with a fantastic payoff. We have three small children so it seems a little daunting for me, but this is also the fourth year straight that I have been a student's wife (one year to go). I have to remind myself that there will be a substantial break before he goes back again and also that my children will be older and a little less dependent on me. I appreciate your input. Y

Hi, My husband is a third-year nursing student in British Columbia, Canada. We are considering moving to Norfolk when he is finished school (spring 2005). We have been in contact with Sentara and are considering Sentara Norfolk General Hospital as a future employer. We have a lot of information on the company, but the one thing a brochure can't tell you is what the work environment is like. Does anybody have any experience there that they would like to pass on? My husband is a nursing student in the third year of his degree in BC, Canada. We are looking very seriously at relocating to Norfolk, Virginia when he is finished. When he checked out sentara, they said their starting wage is $17/hour. The differentials are listed on a previous reply. Being unfamiliar with the area, I am wondering if $17/hr plus differentials is a reasonable standard of living. At our local hospital new RNs make $25.73/hr with differentials less than $2/hr. $17/hr would not be considered a median wage here.
