Some Sonography Help
Nursing seems very awesome, that's why I was drawn into doing it. But after a more in-depth look into it and hearing from my friend in the program, it seems much too stressful for what I'm looking for career wise. I just hit a bump in the road though. The sonography program at my community college is a 2 year program, but I'm not too sure if its Accredited or not. A friend told me that it wasn't for a long time, but they were just accredited and that's why it's now a 2 year degree when it used to be a 1 year degree. I'm hoping so, but if not I suppose I'll do Radiography instead.

Some Sonography Help
Thank you both. It seems I can find more knowledge about nursing then I can sonography. My other concern is the program limitability. I just hope I get in, since its yearly acceptance, that'd be a long way to wait to reapply. I have all the prereq's plus like 10 more health science classes I didnt need. Only thing is I don't have any experience in a hospital setting. I hope it doesnt effect my chances. Although, I do have a GPA of 3.12 after my first semester and after this one, it'll be roughly 3.5 and minimum is 2.5 for my school

Some Sonography Help
Well, I'll start off by saying, I know this is allnurses.com, but I've seen some other discussions regarding sonography, as well. I started with the intent of wanting to get my RN degree, but as my acceptance into the program draws near, I'm reconsidering. I'm reconsidering because I do not believe with the stress levels and amounts of work, being fully compassionate with patients seems highly unlikely (based on my characteristics). I'm now looking into Sonography and have a few questions. I shadow a few doing scans at my school in 2 days, and we'll have a better feel if thats what I want to do. But after reading lots of articles, it sounds so intriguing and makes me feel giddy. Mainly, because I've hit a career deciding stuck (although, I'm only 19 and thats normal). I know its not as opportunistic as nursing, but I know nursing just isn't for me. Especially after hearing my friend talk about the program and clinicals. At my community college, only 12 are accepted into the program and I was just curious as to how easy it was to get a job as a sonographer. I've always been fascinated by technology and torn between healthcare or technological career fields. This seems like the perfect match. I'd like to hear some opinions about the career availabilities of sonographers and some insight from other sonographers or nurses working with or know people who are sonographers. Negative or positive thoughts are welcome, as long as they as unbiased as they can be.

Male RN student here
Thank you :) Yea, as for military, it's been something on my mind, so I reckon when I graduate I"ll give it a shot. And after I serve my time and don't like it I'll move on to traveling nurse.

Thank you all very much for the quick and informative responses. I don't think it should be TOO stressful per se, but more along the lines of nerve racking as I'm sure most of you guys experienced that. I'm a fairly calm person to begin with and usually don't let stresses, like school, run my mentality. Let's just hope that applies to nursing school, as well. The more I think about it, the military aspect of this job is really appealing to me. If I weren't already more than halfway through school, I'd probably be in the military now. The discipline and security are highly appealing to me. Any one got any experience with the military after getting your RN degree? 3 options appeal to me: Traveling nurse, administrative position, or the military.

Thank you for the encouraging words. Batman, I definitely agree with all the above you listed and that is another reason why I initially chose this field. Opportunities seem endless and ultimately, I would like to be in the administration area, as well. But then again, things may change from now to then, but they seem promising now.

Male RN student here
Hello all, I've been reading a lot of topics on here that have deemed quite useful, so I figured why not join and ask some questions of my own. First of all, I'm 19 years old and going to school in the northern Florida region. I'm finishing up my last prerequisites this semester and start the program in the Fall semester. To be honest, I never really considered Nursing as a career till recently, but I have always considered the medical field as an option. A friend of mine is in the program right now, so she fills me in daily of whats it like. The more prerequisites I breeze through with high grades , it intrigues me even more and only fuels my desire to do this job. Now, I know that nursing is an extremely stressful job, but I dont want that to be the reason I dont go through with it. I've got some uneasy feelings that go through my mind from time to time, but as I've read this seems to be pretty normal. I feel this is the right job for me though, I've ran through my options and it only seems right. I was pretty much raised by mum and brothers due to an ugly divorce and rarely got to see my dad, but they both are caring people in nature and in turn, I believe this is what led me to be as sensitive and caring as I am (but not to the point of unreasonably sensitive). I've watched my mum bust her ass off in the hospitals and also been in quite a few due to health issues and all of it just intrigues me. So with that all said, are these uneasy feelings normal? They occur rarely, but when they do it makes me nervous. I'd like to hear your experiences and how you dealt with the stresses and difficulties.
