I was generalizing not being specific to any one poster. It is irritating reading so many people on this forum alluding to or even admitting the fact they feel they are somehow above the law and can do what they like to achieve their aims with no consideration for moral or ethical or legal ramifications. I know we all have our own ambitions but please, people, follow them with integrity!!!! Karma will bite those of you in the behind who choose to act as if the rules don't apply to you!!!!

^^^^^^^ What they said! I totally agree. Too many people feel like they have a right to live in the USA and will step on toes, bend rules and even break the law to get there. I had to leave the USA, and graduate nursing school, as I could not afford to continue paying for it and I was not prepared to break the law and work on my student visa. I wish I had reported at least 10 other international students who did choose to break the law by working. In my personal opinion anyone who feels they are above the law in any way should be kicked out! Comitting a crime and being dishonest are not qualities the immigration officials are eager to look for in future legal residents of their country!!!!!!! Just because you want to live in the USA does not give you the right to lie in order to achieve that. Sorry if that offends you but I am disgusted.

Thanks so much Calalilly :) Even a couple of the day schedules don't look too bad, so I am really glad you were able to help! Now all I have to do is actually get into the program and have a rich distant relative leave me about $100k! As an international student I don't qualify for FAFSA. So it's private loans all the way. I'm so determined to do this though (must be insane LOL). So.... fingers and everything else crossed that I survive this semester (Finals AND getting everything together for Regis in less than 3 weeks!!!!) and hopefully I'll be joining you gals in the Fall. I have preregistered for summer classes to complete my pre-reqs, so if anyone is in Ethics in May, and Chem II in July, i look forward to meeting you then!

I notice Pharma is 5-8pm, but no day is specified? So is that every night then? Or do you choose one night to go to it? Thanks again for your help, it's great to see my options and be able to do a bit of planning ahead. Hopefully I will get into the program :)

I think night classes, as I am more of an afternoon/evening person than early morning person! And if I stay where I am currently living I would have to face the Pike at rush hour and that thought does not appeal to me at all!!! I think night classes are scheduled from 4pm or so until 9 or 10pm? And the clinicals are the same times too I think? I've tried getting more detailed schedule info from admissions but as I am not formally accepted yet they won't tell me anything. I would love to get a clearer view of the the schedules though as it plays a huge part in whether I will be able to work and therefore how much funding I need to secure. It's complicated but exciting!:roll

Thanks for your replies so far :) So how many days a week are classes held? I'm hoping the schedule would allow maybe one or two days a week to work, with homework taking up most of the weekend. Also, is anyone going to live on campus? I'm trying to figure out where to live, as I need to cut costs in order to afford school. The whole loans process is scary! But I am hoping it will all be worth it, as I am insanely motivated LOL :)

Hi everyone :) I am just in the process of getting the last few things together for applying for Fall 09, a bit late but after speaking with admissions it looks like I might just squeak in :) For those of you who are already accepted can you tell me what the schedules for classes looks like? I am trying to decide whether the daytime or evening route would suit me better. I'm so excited about potentially getting in this Fall, and from having the tour and speaking to a few people it looks like a really great school too. :)

I'm hoping that if I get onto the program, after my first year I'll be able to do CPT with this Center and then OPT once I graduate, and if all goes well then the EB2 might be the way to go. It's the perfect job for me and I am so excited :) and even if it doesn't work out, at least now I know there is a job spec out there that meets my needs and desires for my chosen career! If I don't get this one, I will just keep looking elsewhere. It would be awesome for everything to fall into place, but I know Murphy and His Laws might throw a spanner in the works so I'm not going to count my chickens just yet!

Hi, I am an international student here in the US hoping to do a DEMSN in Psych/Mental Health (Pediatric/Adolescent). I have found an amazing Family Therapy Center that works with emotionally/developmentally/psychologically troubled children and have been talking with them about career prospects. They already have a couple of US citizen NPs working for them in the specialty that I want to do, and they are keen to see if after I am qualified (in a few years yet) I would be eligible for either a H1b or EB2. As it's so far down the road, they don't want the expense of talking to an immigration lawyer yet. However, once I am on the NP program they are eager to have me do CPT with them if possible. So, my question is would I be eligible for either the H1b (as NP is a job which is specialist?) or EB2 (as NP requires a Masters as it's entry point?)? It's a hugely exciting opportunity as this is a niche area that interests me greatly and is so rewarding. :redpinkhe

Thanks so much Suzanne . I've spent a few hours reading threads here (avoiding doing my statistics project LOL) and it has been an eye-opening experience. I hope more people come to realize that the US is not a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It's an amazing country for sure, with lovely people and good opportunities for those who seek them out. But nobody is automatically entitled to live here if they weren't born here. Immigration is a privilege not a right. Even as a student paying huge fees, I feel so lucky to have the chance to learn from some amazing professors, study alongside some incredible nurses-to-be, and absorb everything I can from this experience. There are others on this forum who I feel could learn from my attitude. Again, this is IMVHO.

I definitely value the education above anything else. If I got offered a great job back in London/Canada/NZ then that's where I would go. It's not essential for me to remain here afterwards, it's just I am (crazily) choosing to get my education here as I feel it's so well respected world wide, it will open doors for me world wide :) My motive is to become as educated in theory within my chosen niche as I can and then take that theory and use it in the real world. It worries me to see how many people on this website are so desperate to come to the US, and they don't seem to listen to people who are here. The situation is not good. My own home country, the UK, is in dire straits too. I am privileged in that I have the resources to get a good education. I am not desperate to remain here afterwards though. Nor do I consider it my right to remain here afterwards. Some people on this forum seem to think the US is obliged to let them remain here and work. That's a really bad attitude, and to have such a sense of entitlement shows a deeper problem within that person IMVHO.

Hi I am just completing my pre-req's for a Direct Entry Masters, and given the current economy and immigration situation and re-thinking my plans. I am hoping to work as a Pediatric Psych NP eventually, and am now panicking as things are so dire here in the States! So, now I am going to complete a regular BSN (I've done all my gen ed and science requirements, just need to complete all of the nursing ones) and then hope to work for a year and get some experience, then go back to school for the MSN, and then have another 12 months OPT. This will take 5-6 years and I realize it's a long time and it's expensive!!! But hopefully this will give enough time for the economy to stabilize, and more importantly allow me to gain a thorough grounding in nursing at both levels, so I can either get a job here or return home to the UK and work in Pediatric Psych there. I am really lucky as I have a huge opportunity to go to a good school in a great city here in the States and whether I stay here or not, I think the education and experience I will gain will be totally worth the cost. Especially as my personal interests lie in very cutting edge pediatric psychology (attachment theories and neuro development in neonates and infants as a consideration in advanced nursing practice) so.... please can someone tell me I am not insane to want to devote the next 5 years of my life to this??!! :)
