Name the hospital and its Starting Salary!!!
Hi, I graduated from nursing school in 2010. I did my community rotation with VNSNY and throughly enjoyed it. I am currently working in a large local hospital and looking for an additional perdiem or part time job. I am interested in reconnecting with VNSNY. I saw some jobs for per diem nurses advertised on their website and filled out an online application and sent my resume. I haven't heard anything back...it's as if my information went into a hole..who knows where it is or if any one has seen it. I have tried to contact my supervisor from my clinical rotation and as luck has it, she is no longer with VNSNY. I was wondering if you had any advice for me or if you know what the criteria is for filling these positions. Ideally, I am looking for a part time or per diem position in Nassau or Queens. Thanks in advance for any advice or information.

North Shore University RN Fellowship? Input needed!
Thanks for you response. I heard that I will also have to do a patient assessment. I'm not sure when the fellowship starts. Did you get the job? Thanks again

North Shore University RN Fellowship? Input needed!
I have an interview scheduled for the fellowship, I'm wondering if anyone can give me advice in terms of preparing for the interview. From what I've heard about the program, it sounds great and I would be happy to secure a position.

Stony Brook One Year Accelerated Program...exactly what does it entail?
I called about when the semester ends. They told me it ends August 20th and that the new semester doesn't start untill September 8th (the day after labor day) This seem like a long break to me for such an intense program. I'm hesitant to make any plans untill I see this in writing. Which brings me again to the question why don't they give us more information? Tell me about the scholarship. How did you find out about it? The only one I heard about I found out on line when doing a seacrch for more info about the program in a copy of a press release---the one I read about was for 10,000(I think there are 6 or 8 of them) from a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. I contactacted the Professor in charge of it (Professor Escallier I think) in January and she said that I had missed the deadline and that the scholarships were already awarded. I don't know how people were notified about them in the first place. Is this the scholarship you are talking about? I would love to get some help paying for this year--any other ideas?

Stony Brook One Year Accelerated Program...exactly what does it entail?
I'm wondering if it is cheaper to have the titers drawn at Stony Brook, If you're somewhere on the island. I saw the early post about the schedule but I still would feel better if we had an actual schedule with times of the classes. I guess since they say we should not work during the program they feel it doesn't matter. But how do they not know when the classes are?

Stony Brook One Year Accelerated Program...exactly what does it entail?
My insurance covered the titers (at least I thinks so-I haven't gotton the bill yet) however, I am not immune to the mumps any more and had a really hard time finding someone who had the vaccine. My doctor refered me to a travel clinic at LIJ they didn't have it and then to one at Kennedy airport they also didn't have it. Finally the health service at Nassau Community refered me to someone in Garden City who was able to give me the MMR(they say its ok to have it even though I only needed the mumps part) He also gave me the tetnus which hurts for a few days. Now I have to wait a month to have the mumps titer redrawn to ensure that I have immunity to mumps. I'm glad I didn't wait till the middle of June to take care of this. The checklist was in the admissions packet. Still lookin into the malpractice insurance---I think it only cost $22.

Stony Brook One Year Accelerated Program...exactly what does it entail?
I registered for classes but I'm frustrated that we don't know the times of the classes. It's hard for me to believe that they (Stony Brook) does not have any additional information. When I've spoken to the people in student affairs they tell me to expect to be there from 8 or 9 in the morning to about 6 at night. My question (which no one seems to be able to answer is are we in class that whole time or are there any substantial breaks between classes. ON the phone they also told me that we have no class from August 20 to Sept. 8. I'd like to see that in writing so I can plan a get away with my family. I'm excited to start though and look forward to meeting everyone.

Stony Brook One Year Accelerated Program...exactly what does it entail?
KathConservRN, Thanks for your comments, I'm excited to be starting the Stony Brook Acclerated Program at the end of June. I found your comments interesting because everything I've read about the graduates of the accelerated programs indicate that they are well prepared and have succesful nursing careers. I'm curious what you have observed in terms of the level of competency among those who have graduated from these programs. I'm sure everyone reading this will be grateful for any advice you can offer. I think most people following this thread are frustrated that Stony Brook has given us very little information about our schedules for the summer and fall. I know that I am anxious to get more information and realize that this will be a pretty intense year.

Accelerated Bachelor Stony Brook vs Downstate
Thanks, I heard from Downstate about two weeks ago and Stony Brook about 4 weeks ago(12 month program) I sent a deposit to Stony Brook and will tell Downstate that I am not accepting their offer. Basically I need to finish as fast as possible. I'm getting a little nervous about the work load and the commute, but I'm excited to make the change Good Luck!! I hope you hear soon. I know how frustrating the wait is

when should I start studying
I know that this sounds insane but....I'm starting an accelerated program in June and have some time on my hands. I bought the Saunders review book and Mosby study cards....will I be messing my self up by starting to go over some of this stuff now with out any nursing classes. I'm guessing that it couldn't hurt or do people think going over this stuff out of context will ultimately undermine my sucess. One book said that you have to memorize normal lab values.... which in my anxiousness to move forward I've started to do. So....I now know that the normal range for creatine is .6 to1.5 mg/dl but what the hell is creatine...did I learn this in Anatomy and Physiology? Any advice?

Accelerated Bachelor Stony Brook vs Downstate
Hi, I'm new to the site. I was accepted to both SUNY Stony Brook and Downstate's Accelerated Bacholors. I feel very lucky, while I'm leaning toward Stony Brook I'm wondering if anyone has any insight to the programs. Does any one have any idea what time the classes are this summer and this fall. Thanks
