  1. :anpom:YAY!!!! :anpom: :ancong!: You must be so excited and relieved. Have you started looking for work yet?? Good luck!
  2. I too know what it is like to be happy about being fired from a job. I HATED the job with a passion since my first week there and was soooo happy when I was let go. I told my then supervisor, "Thank you! I know you think you're hurting me by letting me go but you've just done me the biggest favor. Now I can really start looking for another job." LOL She was a little ****** after I said that. LOL We didn't really like each other. Ah well, enjoy your weekend and I'm sure you'll find a new job in no time at all.
  3. Thanks for all of the tips! So far I'm doing pretty good, we've had two quizzes and I've gotten a 100 and 105 respectively. I will definitely use the flashcards, reading the chapter and jotting down my own notes, and reading the chapter before the class. I really appreciate the suggestions. I was worried about it because I hadn't been in school for so long but I think I'm adjusting pretty well. Thanks again.
  4. No, but I figured we'd start another one in May. I won't be finished my course until late June early July but I still post here. If you aren't graduating until a later time, it's ok, you can post here too. :wink2:
  5. Hey guys! I've just started my phlebotomy class on Monday and we were given homework. We have to read chapter 1, do the worksheet (although we don't have to turn it in, our instructor gave us the answers at the end of the course) and study. I haven't been in school in 4 years, since February of 2005. I've been reading the material at a slow pace, I'm interested in it but my attention span is very short. I think it maybe because I don't really remember how to study. I took a non-credit course when I was in college that taught you how to study but I don't remember anything and I'm wondering if I'm absorbing the info by just reading the text. So, I'm asking you all for help. When you were in your course how did you study?? What are your study habits? How do you retain the information? TIA for any help it's greatly appreciated. :heartbeat
  6. Well, we will get to practice on the mannys too but that will be in the lab. Our first lab will be next Wednesday. As far as opting out, I'm not sure. I didn't even ask our instructor. Needles and getting blood drawn has never phased me much, not even as a kid. And seeing blood and organs has never been a problem for me either. I'm only worried because we're all newbies here and I don't want someone sticking me over and over again because she can't find my vein. Having one or two needles is ok but getting stuck over and over again does start to hurt afterwhile and my arm(s) become sore. It's only a small class of 4 anyway so I'm not sure how it would work if I decided I didn't want to participate. I think I'll wait to see what it all entails before I decide not to participate. It won't be for a few more weeks anyway. :) Are you planning on taking the phlebotomy course for a PCT position??
  7. Hey guys! I hope everyone is doing well. Last night was the first night of my Multi-Skilled Med. Tech. course. I thought we'd start with the CNA class first but we've started with Phlebotomy. It's a really small class, there were supposed to be 5 of us and only 4 of us showed up. Our instructor has been a phlebotomist for 30 years. She's really bright and cheery and has lots of funny stories. LOL She keeps the class interesting. She lectures with PP and gives us a printout of the slides for us to take notes on and she gives us a worksheet for that particular chapter (She told us that most of her ?s for quizzes and exams comes from the worksheet which was very helpful.). We meet every Monday, Wednesday and every other Friday from 6-945 and the class will be over on May 15th. I haven't been in school since 2005 so I definitely have to get used to being in a class for 3+ hours, after we came back from break I was getting a little sleepy. I'm really excited about finally being back in school though and learning some new skills. It's going to be an interesting class and I can't wait to get into the good stuff. The only part I'm nervous about is the sticking each other part. Which we'll be doing in 3 weeks. Oh and we go to lab on Wednesdays and we don't do clinicals until after the class is completed. After that I'm not sure which class is next but I still have the EKG class, CNA class (CPR is incorporated in there somewhere), and Med. Terminology. I was told the entire MSMT course would be over at the beginning of July but I'm not seeing how that's possible since this one isn't over until May. We should be getting our schedules on Wednesday so we shall see. :)
  8. Thanks so much. I was bummed about it, I still am kinda. I am relieved that my insurance will cover it but I also know that now my very low rate ($120/mo) will go up. So I'm kinda worried about that but very thankful the damage wasn't worse than what it was. :)
  9. Awesome!! That's great news! I'm glad to hear it. :ancong!: You must be so excited.
  10. So, I had to work Sunday evening and we left early because the snow had started and we knew the storm was coming. I had no idea it was going to snow so much, usually it just passes us over or it's very light, nothing too serious. I didn't realize it was that bad until I got to my neighborhood (there are lots of side streets, most don't get plowed), the street was completely covered and the snow was packed onto the ground. I was doing about 5 mph and lost control of the car and slammed into a curb. I knew I had definitely screwed something major up, I was sure I had bent the axle. Anyway, I went to the mechanic today and luckily I hadn't bent the axle like I thought but there was still $1200 worth of damage!! JUST GREAT!! Now I have to dip into my already depleted savings AGAIN. I am so bummed. Hopefully my insurance company will pay for this and I'll just have to pay the $250 deductible. That story had nothing to do with CNA courses or graduation but I had to vent, this hasn't been the best day. Buuuuut, I got a call from the admin. asst. at the local CC and they have an opening in the Venipuncture course. I'm signed up to take the MSMT course and I thought the CNA module was first but the admin. asst. said it didn't matter what order I took the course in. Sooo, I get to start class earlier than I originally thought (the first class wasn't supposed to start until 3/24). It's not the CNA part of the course but I'm just excited about finally being able to go back to school and learn something new. The first day is 3/9 and it's every Monday, Wednesday, and every other Friday from 6pm-945pm. YAY!! I'm very excited and just wanted to share my good news. Hope everyone else is doing well in their course(s) and clinicals. :)
  11. Miiszkim I had no idea you were in Maryland too. What part if you don't mind me asking? I'm in Baltimore. Where did you take your course? I had no idea that to work at an LTC you had to be licensed as a GNA, I thought that all you needed was to be certified as a CNA. I guess I should check out the MD BON website. Is the GNA test so different from the CNA test? Goodluck with everything.
  12. Thanks. The Multi-Skilled Medical Technician course is offered here in Baltimore at the local CC. It seemed like a better course to take because it doesn't just cover CNA. It includes the following modules: Nursing Assistant, Medical Terminology, Venipuncture and Specimen Collection, and EKG Essentials. I figured having the additional skills would help me land a job in a hospital sooner although I do want to work at an LTC or assisted living facility first.
  13. I guess I can officially join this thread now because I just got approved to register for my Multi-Skilled Medical Technician course. YAY!! I'm soooo excited! I'm definitely going to celebrate this weekend. LOL It was a long process to get approved but it was definitely worth it. The course starts on March 24th (a few days b4 my bday on the 27th) and what a nice present that will be. For awhile I felt like I wasn't going anywhere with my life, like I wasn't progressing and now my plan is finally coming together. I'm just ready to work and work as much as I can (40hr +). Anyway, I just wanted to share the good news with everyone. Oh and goodluck on your exam next week Dee! :wink2:
  14. I guess you didn't read the rest of my post where I said I wanted to be a PCT in a hospital while I finish my bachelors in Bio. I figured I'd be killing two birds with one stone, I want to work in the health field anyway and I enjoy helping others. It's a win win situation if you ask me.
  15. Yes, I took the TABE test to get federal funding. I've already picked out the course that I want to take. Now I'm just waiting to see if my application got approved. Keeping my fingers crossed. When does your course start?
