burn standards of care
Hi Recently started working as charge in a brand new burn ICU. We have not yet developed standards of care when it comes to anything like burn precautions, debridement and dressing/changes wound care, etc. And there are very few of us with any burn experience. At this point we are learning day to day based on the docs orders. When we get a big burn, they go to the tank room and after that we mostly follow MD orders. Our orders for wound care are however NEVER clear and change all the time, if we have a specific order at all. I am looking to help develop a standard of care hand in hand with docs hopefully to help standardize this as much as can possibly be done. Do any of you have copies of your unit's standards of care that we could potentially use as a starting point? my email is [email protected] if anyone has any examples! :)

Move from CO to NC
I am currently working in Colorado as an RN and have been for the last 4 years. We want to move back to NC to be close to family since we now have a child. I have been looking at CMC and Presbyterian so would plan to work in NC, however we would likely be looking to live near Lake Wylie or Fort Mill, so SC. Do you know if I would need a SC or NC license since I would live in SC but work in NC. I know they are both compact states, as well as Colorado, so I'm not really sure how this works. I know I can technically practice for 30 days in another compact state. I just don't want to move and then find a job, would like to start the process first as I have a great job now at a level I trauma center and regional stroke center in the neuro/trauma ICU, so I'm terrified to just leave this job, move across the country only to find it's hard to get a job. I called CMC today to ask if I needed the license in NC before I applied and they didn't really have an answer just told me to call the board of nusring. So I will do that but thought I would check here since I'm sure someone has done this before! :) Also does anyone know if you have to have residency established before applying for license? Thanks!

New Grad Denver area
Thanks so much...that was one thing I noticed about the hospital where I did my clinicals in OB. It was also a teaching hospital and I couldn't believe that almost all of the women were on pitocin and recieved epidurals, something like 80%! Thank you for your help!

New Grad Denver area
Hi, I'll be graduating at the end of July with my BSN. I have been looking at hospitals in the Denver area and I am trying to determine a little more about the hospitals. I have looked at St. Lukes, St. Joseph's, UCH and Denver Health. I am really hoping to work in labor and delivery. I want to do my practicum in labor and delivery but I am nervous to do this, in case I am unable to get a job in this department. Does anyone know about the L&D dept's at these hospitals? Do they hire often? What is the avg pay for new grads (I will be moving from Mississippi and am nervous I can't afford it)? Are there any other hospitals that I should be looking at? And also, as I will graduate on Jul 24, and most new grad programs start very soon after, can you begin the programs before you take your NCLEX? I have known people who have done this and I have heard conflicting answers. Thanks so much for any help! :)
