  2. I will be changing from the USAR to Army Active Duty, effective 03 APR 2006 the day I report to Madigan. On 23 APR, I will start phase II [12 week] of the critical care course, and remain at Madigan as a critical care nurse for the remainder of my 3 ...
  3. Got the word today, outstanding!

Be sure to take some digital pics on 10/14/06 I forgot my camera for the Reserve Commission, yet I did remember it for my Regular Commission and my wife took some great pics! Again, congrats!
  4. ADN to BSN vs. BSN

If you have the opportunity, then go straight for your BSN. This will save you time & money in the long run. However, nothing wrong with becoming an ADN and later pursuing BSN via RN-BSN online program. First, I completed AAS in Surg Tech [1995],...
  5. ICU, when to advance?

I was thinking more along the lines of 12 months with a full-time schedule. Otherwise, I agree with the above.
  6. The Guys Club: Guy Students Come on In!

I'd bet you will make an outstanding RN!
  7. The Guys Club: Guy Students Come on In!

Romansten9 - I realize after being a Paramedic for 17 years you have great pride for Medics, as you should! I know in the Army Medical Dept. [AMEDD] Medics are highly trained, highly skilled, and very valuable. Maybe Piper is thinking along the same ...
  8. The Guys Club: Guy Students Come on In!

After being a Paramedic for 17 years I'd think is mind is pretty clear on his opinion. I do think he will gain a better appreciation of nurses after he has been one & worked around other nurses.
  9. The Guys Club: Guy Students Come on In!

    Good luck in Nursing School!
  10. Are You Man Enough to Be a Nurse?

Very good question! IMHO, males in nursing gravitate towards the more technical & adrenaline rush type areas. This observation of mine holds true both in the civilian & military nursing profession, again JMO.
  11. Are You Man Enough to Be a Nurse?

I agree it is a very, very good campaign poster to invite males into the nursing profession.
  12. Survey: Should family be present for a code?

Not all family members can handle witnessing their loved one in a code, but to never find it appropriate seems like a blanket statement, IMHO. I know I'd want to be present in a code situation involving a close family member. BTW, when my Dad had CAB...
  13. Need some wisdom- a little encouragement

Can you break that up into a few paragraphs? :chair:
  14. Combining Adult Med Unit with Peds Unit

At Madigan Army Medical Center, the only difference from ICU - East [where I work] & ICU - West is the East side takes Peds, as well as Adult patients, whereas the West side takes S/P CABG & Heart Valve patients. I recently certified in PALS...
  15. Organ Donation and Homosexuals

LOL, I know how you feel since every now & then someone comes along that reads my post as I intended.
  16. Organ Donation and Homosexuals

YES Rambisisking, you got it! :bowingpur ... thank you for understanding! Two things I hate, is being misunderstood & ignored.
  17. Organ Donation and Homosexuals

... regards to both homosexual & heterosexual monogomous relationships which practice unsafe sex. I was NOT intending to be negatively bias towards homosexuals in the least bit. Still confused, LOL?
  18. Organ Donation and Homosexuals

NurseguyFL - I NEVER POSTED IT TO BE A MALE HOMOSEXUAL ISSUE! I assure you I was misquoted/misunderstood. Please, see my previous post #37
  19. Are You Man Enough to Be a Nurse?

My contention? I'm not trying to argue with you here, but merely expressing my opinion . Again, if your saying my opinion is that it is okay for the media to portray female nurses as either the dipsy bimbo or naughty nancy images... YOUR WRONG!!! How...
  20. Organ Donation and Homosexuals

Okay... but, I do agree with you.
  21. Are You Man Enough to Be a Nurse?

Leslie, with all due respect... my complaint is neither of the above, really. My complaint is movie, television, uniform ads, etc. rarely display males as nurses... period. I do remember seeing a segment of Law & Order [that & M*A*S*H are my ...
  22. 'Unhealthy' nurses...bad examples?

Thank you Retired R. N., OMG! An outstanding post from a very wise Texan.
  23. Organ Donation and Homosexuals

Very interesting! Who can become an organ donor when they die?Anyone from the age of 12 months up to the age of 90 can potentially become an organ and tissue donor. However, less than 1% of deaths occur in such a way that organ donation is possibl...
  24. 30 Sep 1966 ...

On 9 August 1955, President Eisenhower signed into law, H.R. 2559, which authorized reserve commissions in the Army Nurse Corps for male RNs. Eleven years later, 30 SEP 1966, Public Law 89-609 authorized regular commissions for male RNs into the Army...
