  3. Hi. I am hoping to get some input for my grad school project. I am investigating the differences in perceptions of agency nurses and travelers. If you need supplemental staffing for your unit which would you be likely to employ and why? Do you think staff nurses have different feelings about travelers vs. agency? What benefits would you see in using travelers over agency or vice versa? In this economy has your hospital or institution called for a freeze or required scaling back on either? Certainly feel free to tell me any other thoughts you may have on the subject. I really appreciate your time! I am finishing the nursing portion of my MSN/MBA this Spring and have learned a lot from scanning the posts here. (The business portion will be fininshed next year) Maybe my research will be helpful to someone else! Have a great day.
  4. Hi. I was hoping to get some ideas about acuity measurements in use. Are any of you using tools on your units to measure acuity? I have heard there are some hospitals using scales with ratings for different areas such as amount of medications, current psychosis, etc. We currently "measure" acuity only by the number of constant observations. It has been clear for some time that this is really no indication of acuity. The hospital has no other way of measuring so I am trying to develop something. Lit searches generate scales for ICUs but I have found little for psych. Can anyone give me an idea of what you are using and the benefits/drawbacks? Thanks!
  5. I started as a new grad and my hospital hires new grads all the time. I think the larger teaching hospitals are more likely to hire new grads than community hospitals, imho.
