Outpatient surgery (hospital based) staffing
Do any of you work in outpatient surgery setting attached to a hospital? I'm looking for staffing model ideas. I work in an ambulatory surgery setting that is attached to a hospital. The preop staff get OR/ENDO patients ready and take Phase 2 recovery patients. Also, we are responsible for special procedures such as bronchs, bone marrows, and Linq monitors. How do your departments staff based on the surgical schedules? How are patient assignments made?

ER Prioritizing/communication help please!
When I first read your post, I felt like you were talking about the ER that I work it. Its the same BS all the time. I am fortunate enough to work with a shift that is very helpful to one another, however from time to time I get scheduled with one of the other shifts and it is a complete nightmare and horror show from the get go. We have to do our initial assessment within 10 minutes of the patient arriving to the room, therefore when a patient is brought back and their chart goes to the physician, the room time is written on the triage papers. Also with our chest pains, they go straight to the back and an EKG is to be performed before we are allowed to triage them in. Unfortunately working the the ER can be highly stressful somedays and you don't always have anyone to rely on but yourself. I have only been working in the ER for 6 months myself and there are days that I hate it. Just figure out a system that works for you but most importantly make your opinions and concerns known.

Rolling backpacks
I bought a Jansport Driver 8 http://www.jansport.com/js_product_detail.php?cid=14&pid=TN89 Between my notebook with all my course content and my books, it was backbreaking. I searched and searched for the best backpack and read a lot of reviews. A lot of the reviews indicated that the handles would break or that there just wasn't enough room inside of the backpacks. In this backpack I was able to put my laptop, my med-surg book (which was about 4 inches wide), my notebook and 2-3 of my other smaller books. I definitely recommend it to anyone. It has been so long ago but I believe the cost was around $50-$60, but well worth it!

Assessments - need help with terminology
I'm currently in an LPN - RN program. As an LPN, I currently work in an immediate care type setting and we focus on the problem at hand, so I don't do head to toe assessments everyday. Now being back in the hospital setting at clinicals, I have the ability to complete my assessment but when its time to put it on paper I can't seem to come up with the terminology to describe things. Does anyone know of a book, website, or anything that would be helpful. Thanks.

Psych and Mental Health......help
I am currently an LPN and I am in an LPN-RN bridge program. This semester we are covering psych and mental health, one of my least favorite subjects. I have a hard time keeping everything straight. I was just wondering if any of you had any suggestions as to how you got through it in your program. Such as any study tools, books, websites, or just little quirky things you might have done to be successful. Thanks......
