  1. I am a 26 year old male in desperate need of a career change. Ive been to three different colleges in my time. I started out as an engineering major, switched it to business and finally ended up with my associates degree in computer aided drafting. the only reason i even went and got my associates was for my mom and dad. I felt so bad about how much money they wasted on my previous colleges i wanted them to have something to show for it. I never really intended using it as my career. It was not because i was not smart enough to handle the other colleges i attended it was more that i was just really young (17 most of my freshman year), and to immature to take it seriously. I currently am a toll collector working for the maine turnpike. I have been there for almost 8 years. It started out as my summer job and kind of ended up as my career. As you can guess i hate it. It is such a mindless job and it just eats away at you. The reason i am considering going to nursing school and nursing as a new career is because i want to help people. I want to make a difference in peoples lives. i think that this would truly make me happy. My father passed away this summer from brain and lung cancer and he spent his last 4 days in the hospital. I had so much respect and so much appreciation for the nurses who made his last days as comfortable as possible. This is what i want to do. One of the most fulfilling things i have ever done in my life was my senior of football i made the team for the maine shriners all star game. 1 day during the week of practice you take a day off hop on a bus and head to the shriners children hospital in springfield mass. Just being around these kids, playing with them, talking to them, bringing a smile to there face when they really have nothing to smile about, is a feeling i will always carry with me. I was just looking for some feedback. This is a huge jump for me and I just wanted to hear from people on here if I have what it takes. Thanks in advance.
