I personally did not apply for the scholarship because I do not intend to stay in Omaha. However, I have talked to recent accelerated grads that are working there and the majority of complaints are that you really don't get a choice of unit you want to work on (even though they tell you so), but instead get placed where they need RNs the most. Recently, this lead to them placing a large majority of new grad RNs all on one unit. There were other issues about what is considered legitimate payback time as well. I am not sure what else you exactly want to know. Are you applying for the accelerated or traditional program? And have you looked anywhere else? I was also accepted to Regis, which is a 12-month accelerated BSN school in Denver, and hands down I would have went there had I known what I know now about Creighton nursing program. The name looks good, but there is a lot of hidden b.s. along the way that is extremely frustrating! (That isn't just my opinion....I share that with many, many of my classmates). I would explore your options more, especially if there is a financially cheaper alternative.

Who ever is considering Creighton for the scholarship purposes....be careful. I have had 2, possibly 3 people from my class that ended up declining the scholarship mid-semester and taking out loans. There are many stipulations that are not revealed. Look into it as much as possible.
  3. Here is what I would suggest for the information you provided: Ineffective tissue perfusion: cardiopulmonary: r/t impaired transport of oxygen aeb capillary refill > 3 seconds and any breathing characteristics (i.e. dyspnea, chest retraction, nasal flaring, use of accessory muscles, ect) .
  4. Thanks for your response. I understand that (d) is correct, I am not debating that. I don't understand why it is more correct then (b). The literature on the development of the scale reports a lot on gaining information on the patient's "feelings". When answering the question I was inferring that the feelings were related to pain, just as how you would have to infer that the 6 cartoon faces are representative to pain and not something else.
  5. To clarify right away this was NOT a NCLEX question, but proposed as an NCLEX-type question by an instructor. I have not even taken the NCLEX. I am having trouble with the reliability and validity of this question. The question reads..... The Wong-Baker FACES pain scale: a. is not as reliable as other pain scales b. describes what the person is feeling c. is item scored between 0.5 and 0.7 d. consists of 6 cartoon faces The correct "keyed" answer was (d), but in the original directions of the scale is states to "ask the person to choose the face that best describes how he is feeling." Also, the literature supports that this scale aims to find out the feelings of the child or those who cannot communicate their level of pain. I was told this was a question of where one answer is more right then the other. Shouldn't that have been stated in the question itself, as other NCLEX question do? Just curious what other students or nurses think! I just don't feel this question is black and white as deemed by the rationale that was provided.
