  1. :balloons: Hi there, I work in a 16 bed cardiac ICU with approximately 70 nursing staff. We all feel like we are very quick to voice our opinion when we see negative behaviour/care happening, :argue: but now also feel that we would like to be more proactive in recognising "good" behaviour/care and praising peoples acheivments be they clinical/educational/personal etc. What sorts of things do other people do in their units to recognise "goodness" in their colleagues? :flowersfo
  2. I work in a cardiovascular ICU in New Zealand. We as RNs pull the chest tubes and we always give a bolus dose of (usually) Morphine prior to removal.

  4. don't...you'll make me cry!! See you there.
  5. We have decided to hold a final farewell lunch (everyone bring something to share) in the last week that we are open. Everyone has been invited to bring a flower to place in a vase. The following day, half of these flowers will be transferred to the new paediatric unit with those staff and then the remaining flowers will go with the other staff to the new adult unit. Other ideas for closing the hospital as a whole include: 1. a memory book for all to write in 2. a timecapsule with something put in from each ward/unit which will be buried in the new hospital 3. everyone is invited to bring a rock to the last celebration and these will be collected and a stone cairn built with them somewhere on the old site. 4. all invited to bring a floating candle to light and float at the last ceremony Some great ideas have come out
  6. Thanks for that. Don't worry, like all good nurses we have the big party (or parties in this case) well and truly covered!!
  7. I work in a 20 bed cardiothoracic ICU with both paed and adult patients. In December we are closing and both units moving to new brand hospitals. Adults to a new adult hospital nad paeds merging with the existing kids hospital here in Auckland. As you can imagine this is a fairly emotional and sad time for us all. Some of us have worked in this ICU for over 20 years. Has anyone done this?? Any ideas or tips for survival?? Does anyone have any ideas for "saying goodbye? or ideas for a meaningful ceremony of closure? Something that will mean something for all leaving this place and moving on. All ideas welcome. :balloons:
  8. I work in a 20 bed cardiothoracic intensive care unit, caring for both adult and paediatric patients. In December, this unit closes and the adults move to a brand new unit in a brand new hospital. The paediatric patients are separating off and moving to the childrens hospital. Has anyone else been through this?? Any tips for surviving?? Also, does anyone have any ideas for a closing ceremony for something special to mark the closure of a world renowned centre and the division of its staff and patients. As you can imagine, this is a very emotional and sad time for us all.
