  1. Well to any alternates out there: I hope your next on the list and get my spot... I cannot get the required vaccines to start the program because I am pregnant and my ins does not cover titers, there's no way i could pay for those out of pocket for each vaccine. I will have to reapply next year... maybe I'll rethink all my options. I know everything happens for a reason, whether for me or for the alternate that gets my spot :) Good luck to you all!! I'll be checking in to see how you're all handling the program so post often :)
  2. long does not even begin to describe that book list!!!
  3. i'm sure i've read this somewhere, but i've forgotten... what days/hours are we there for the class that starts july 27?
  4. on the fast pass document follow the instructions for the website (ww.ibtfingerprint.com) and make an appt to get ur fingerprinting done. print out the fast pass form, fill it out and take it with you to the appt. u can choose to pay online w/ a credit card or at ur appt w/ check, money order, or cashiers check (no cash). if ur background check is clear they will send u a postcard in the mail.
  5. clac2009: first of all congrats you've almost made it!! and thank u so much for your encouraging words. would you mind asking your classmates (if u don't already know) if they recommend telling your professors about your pregnancy or at what point to tell them... i suspect there will be certain teachers that will pressure me to leave. i've heard good and bad things but nothing specifically about how north harris adn program treats pregnant students Jenee
  6. I want in on the study group too. I have already taken pharm and my hep B series is done. I did however, just find out that I am pregnant w/ my #4 so God's plan isn't always mine lol... but b/c of that I will be getting titers drawn to see what vaccines i need...hopefully, i show immunity to mmr from my childhood shots and maybe pertussis too (so i only need td which is fine for pregnant women) if not then the cdc says tdap is safe in the second trimester and that'd be right after orientation so i'll still be good. i'm due in the christmas break so i'm just taking it one step at a time. i've worked really hard to get here so hopefully i won't have to postpone it another year, but life happens :) so there's my story! i am also scheduled to take the may 15th cpr class
  7. Tyshe: Thanks for letting me know about the cpr class, i've got it fixed now. I'll also be in the may 15th class.
  8. I had 2 tests that I had to go to the testing center for and they were fairly long, but totally on the computer. The remainder of the grade was participation in group discussions online and several online quizzes. The final was take home but it took about 3 days to complete. Let me know if you register for the cpr class, if you end up going the same day we'll look for each other. I just want to get most of it out of the way so that I can relax some this summer before it all begins. It'll be different for me to have a break, since I decided to go back last summer, I've been in school including summer and mini mester classes so other than a week here and there I haven't had a break. I have 3 boys ages 4, 3, and 2. My oldest will start kindergarten when I start nursing school.... all so exciting :).
  9. i actually registered on their website, then it gives you a phone number to call for when you decide to go up there to pay and pick up the book (pamphlet?) required. i took farm in the fall online from montgomery. i feel like i probably would have learned more in a classroom setting, b/c i'm very visual and need the back and forth to really get it, but it wasn't bad. there was a good bit of reading. i got it out of the way b/c i wanted to be able to focus on nursing school.
  10. the shots are listed in an immuniazation faq link on the page for new students on the north harris nursing website. basically from what i see it says hep B, mmr, dpt, chicken pox (verification form or shot) and a TB skin test. don't forget the physical too. i am not sure, but my micro teacher was saying, it's not required yet of health care proffesionals, but Hep A is strongly recommended (not required by school as far as i know). i registered for a cpr class at houston nw med center on may 2 (sat). it's only $35 i think.
  11. As for the chicken pox verification... does anyone know if a parent's signature is enough? Considering I am an adult I assume not, but I noticed on the form it does say parent or doctor. I can tell it seems to be a generic form that probably is used for elementary children to get into school as well... just wondering :)
  12. pinkynbd_99: did u wait until orientation to get your shots done, another person said that the best clinical choices go to those who have already gotten them done by orientation thanks, Jenee
  13. If I remember correctly I had to turn in the signed papers after I applied online.
  14. lpaige: congrats! did u get another letter from your first choice? i want to send my letter of intent to north harris but i don't know if i should wait for a letter from my first choice...
  15. 11.1892 i think. i don't think i have any leftover financial aid for summer, does anyone know if it's cheaper to take the cpr class somewhere other than the continuing education classes at lonestar? theirs are $51
  16. I got in at North Harris! I'm so surprised and so happy! I wonder if I need to wait for a denial letter from Montgomery (my first choice) or if the fact that I got an acceptance letter from my #2 automatically means that I didn't get in at #1? Good luck to everyone!
  17. just checked my mail, nothing still!!
  18. has anyone received any letters decline or acceptance yet??! this is killing me now. i've made it to april without worrying about it too much but now that i know it could be any day it seems like it's taking forever!
  19. sbyramRN: i'm pretty sure all the programs allow you to take pharm before being accepted now, and as for it being i just felt like I didn't leave w/ as much knowledge as I could have if I had gone to a classroom situation, but to each their own :) i guess i'm just a more hands on learner, i think the online class lacked the back and forth question/answer atmosphere that a classroom has.
  20. flower12: as for your pharm class, i took it at montgomery so i can't help you with teachers at the other campuses, but my advice is don't take it online :) and just so you know i have the pharm book that was used at montgomery so when you get registered and know what book you'll need send me a message and maybe I can sell it to you for cheaper. good luck in the fall!
  21. Well my application is submitted. The long wait begins for me. As for the HESI I have to say I've always done well in reading comprehension and I had the HESI study guide and even when I was taking the test I thought I had a pretty good handle on the questions, but still only managed to get an 87 so I don't know what I got wrong...
  22. hypocaffeinemia, i took my HESI on Jan 7th so I am assuming that is the one I get within this application period. The actual application period started Jan 14, but i'm guessing it means once during the time that they offer the HESI which is from nov-feb. It's good to know they are accepting more people this time, but there is no mention of that on their website anywhere. In fact it seems there's not been too many updates on the website at all recently.
  23. thank u for giving me some hope as well we're in this together :) good luck to u. as for me i've come across another obstacle... that seems to be the norm! it's just an error in the system that's showing me as incomplete in my math and i'm not so i've got to go see the nursing advisor AGAIN. seems like it's always something when i try to do anything online w/ the schools. did u already submit your application? if not make sure to do so early to catch any errors like this as well... i had a friend that applied at kingwood and it took the advisor so long to fix her transcript problems in the computer that it was nearly the deadline by the time she got it finished.
  24. i think u have a pretty good shot at both considering that montgomery is one of the smallest programs out there w/ only 30 spots and their cut off was 11.44 last year and north harris has 100 spots so obviously it should be a little lower i would think. and as someone else has said, it's not a bad thing to be an alternate either b/c pregnancies and other things in life happen all the time that cause applicants to not be able to accept their spots. i know north harris has been around a lot longer, but it all depends on what teachers you get. i wish that i had the points to get in at montgomery b/c i'd rather do clinicals at memorial hermann the woodlands. i have heard that you have absolutely no choice for clinicals at montgomery, but that there is some choices available at north harris but that could be rumor... good luck to you though!
  25. well i think u have an really good chance of getting in. that's the kind of score i was aiming for so that i could be in a more confident place, but everything happens for a reason! good luck I hope you get in to the college of your choice! also just another thought on the hesi, they take the most recent not the best so only retake it if you're confident you can get a better score.
