Hi. I am a new nurse, only working since March. I just finished orientation the end of May and am now taking my own district of patients. When I get to work and before work I feel so anxious. Once I am there and moving I start to feel a little better, but I make frequent rounds to check my patients as I am nervous about them. When we have 9 or more pt's we have an LPN who passes meds for us, and sometimes when she comes to me with a question or issue I don't know what to do/say right away. Sometimes she knows more than I do because of the fact that she has more experience in nursing than I do. Some days I come home and cry because I feel so overwhelmed, I'v even cried a few times in the bathroom at work because I just couldn't help it. I try not to let co-workers see me that way because I don't want them to view me as weak. I love working with the pt's, and I feel that nursing is a calling for me, but many times I have wondered if hospital work is not for me because I work slowly to avoid errors and sometimes don't finish my computer charting as a result (I do finish clinical work, notes, chart checks.....etc). The stress is so much, most of it is probably brought on by myself worrying about every little thing. When I finally get home I always wonder if I forgot something while I was there. I guess I"m wondering if all this is normal for a newbie? Will I get over this and feel confident, and if so, when? Thank you to everyone.

Hi, I am a new nurse (grad may 08) and only working 3 months. We never had to do NG tubes to eachother. We never even practiced on a dummy. Good luck to you in nursing school and in the future.

Sometimes on my unit people can get up to 13-14 patients. So far the max I'v had is 12 which is still ridiculously overwhelming! I hate when that happens! I can have up to 8 and be comfortable, any more than 8 and it's hard for me to handle.

I took a job on tele doing days. I wish I had done nights for all of the reasons you stated. It's much easier for a new nurse to learn how to be a nurse at night than on days.

First off, you don't sound like a flake at all! I know how harrowing telemetry can be. I am a new grad. Started on a tele floor which i think was a horrid mistake. All I wanted to do was care for my pt's and be a good nurse, but my floor was so insane that I couldn't even keep my head straight or finish one thing that I was doing. I ended up resigning after two months because of it. If I were you, I would ask for a transfer. I agree with Britney, life really is too short to be miserable all the time. You will definitely find another floor that you are more comfortable on, and you wont have to deal with annoying people accusing you of stupid things like hiding. I wish you good luck

Hi everyone. I am a brand new RN, graduated May 08 and started working on a telemetry floor. I was only there two months, most of which was spent in classes, not on the floor. Long story short, I ended up resigning because I was completely overwhelmed and could not think straight. I am now looking for a new job, and was recently offered a position in home care. My initial feeling is that home care should not be the first place I go because there won't be anyone there to consult with if I am unsure of something. Could anyone give me some insight about this and maybe some suggestions of where is a good place to start over. Thank you.
