  1. Sorry...I know that was little off the LPN / plastic surgery question...but it true any how..
  2. The reality is that employers are "always" looking for assets to make business run better, more efficient and increase the potential for revenue. If I am a newly licensed nurse sitting and waiting for the so called "market" to get better and for someone to hand me a job, the I certainly will be waiting a while. Your ability to be employed by the agency of your choice depends upon your persistent attitude and you ability to sell yourself. People need to learn to be a little creative in their approach to seeking meaningful employment. Persistence is much more critical in difficult times. However, in a city like Los Angeles, if you are a licensed professional and you can't find work in L.A. or anywhere else for that matter, you need to seriously look at your approach to wherever you are applying and ask yourself what this employer "really" needs that you can provide. Businesses always have needs because they are always trying to increase the bottom line, even in a recession. When you can understand (which requires homework) an employers needs your in a much better position to sell yourself as an asset if you are both creative and persistent. Never sit back and wait for a job to fall in your lap and NEVER give up on an organization where you choose to be employed simply because they say "we are not hiring". When a company says that, what they are really saying is "I need a really good reason to hire you. Give it to me." Sell Yourself 101 - :)
  3. Get your LPN license....move to Los Angeles! Everybody is plastic there...plenty of work...
  4. I had serious sleep problems when I was paramedic working nights. The benadryl worked great for me as far as sleep goes but I would be a bit foggy when I awoke. The sleep issue resolved when I went back to working days only and did completely away with nights.
  5. Wow! I guess New York is the place. :)
  6. Nursing has SOOOO many more opportunities....Done the medic thing and can certainly testify that it is NOT thing to do as your only source of income. Most medics that I know who have no other skills are miserable, over worked and under paid. The clinical experience is great, but that doesn't pay the bills. Whatever you do, know well ahead what kind of compensation you will be getting what ever professions you choose and develop multiple income streams so that you have the flexibility to choose where you want to spend your time. Being stuck on an ambulance for $11.00 an hour can be like a prison sentence if that is the only skill set you have and money is an issue. However, if the money is NOT an issue and your pockets are already lined, then pre-hospital care guarantees a wide variety of experiences for you.
  7. You can watch a pretty cool ECG tutorial.
  8. There is a company in the Sacramento/ Natomas area, that offers ASHI ACLS and PALS certification. Its cheaper then some of the other programs out there, but if you are employed already you should check with compliance or HR to be sure that your facility take ASHI certification. The program is a traditional "in class" training that covers all the same algorithms, but issues a different cert.
