Trying to prepare for my interview... anyone like to share some interview questions that their schools may have asked? Any other tips would be appreciated as well! Thanks in advance ?

Hello, I recently applied to the OU FNP program. To anyone who attended, your thoughts/experience on the program would be appreciated. Also if you remember any interview questions from their phone interview? Or any interview questions you remember from other schools? Thank you!

Our schedule over the summer is lectures Monday/Friday, lab times haven't been posted. When do you get your clinical schedule? Do they at least try to help you out by placing you a little more strategically so you're not driving too far? Where are you placed right now?

I know that the Jan cohort's schedule is set up as classes T, W, Th and they have 12hr clinicals on M, F. The students I met with were saying there were talks of changing clinical schedules for our cohort to 3 days of 8hr shifts. Given that the Summer schedule only has MF classes, I'm assuming they went ahead with the new plan of 8hr clinicals for T, W, Th. I'm getting the feeling we are a guinea pig cohort...more students and diff. course/clinical schedule...

Coincidentally I inquired about the orientation yesterday evening, and the adviser replied saying she emailed everyone the details yesterday. I didn't get the email for some reason. I have requested the adviser to resend the email to me yesterday, but she hasn't responded yet. SASlong, would you mind forwarding the email to me? I will PM you my Oakland email. haven't had orientation yet. haven't even been contacted. but january starts had their orientation late november... so i guess there's still plenty of time.

I've been away from the thread for a while, but to respond to you, CookiMonster... I applied for Fall '11 as well in my second attempt. But I did apply for May '11 in my first attempt, plus I have already completed all of my Nursing pre-reqs. I guess they just saw that I was done with them and bumped me up automatically b/c they probably had a few empty spaces. They certainly didn't ask me, it just said May '11 in my acceptance letter, and i'm definitely not complaining. I am glad because I was done with my classes this summer and I didn't want to wait too long between my NRS classes ending and actually starting the program. I plan on reviewing the courses over the next few months as a refresher though... I will definitely need it :)

CONGRATS!!! I got my acceptance letter too! HOOOOORRAAAYYYYYYY!!! :heartbeat:hug::hrnsmlys::anpom::hpygrp::ancong!: It's a Christmas miracle!! I actually got accepted into the May 2011 cohort!!

Congrats nnarod!!! I'm glad someone's received some kind of communication after nearly a month of being on edge! I agree prettygirl, that complaining is not the reason why nnarod got in, but i'm sure it brought more light to his/her situation and others that may have been on the same boat (e.g. if nnarod felt that there was no legitimate reason as to why he/she didn't get in.) Also, nnarod may have just stood out more amongst the candidates in this round of interviews vs. the last round. Admission is all relative based on who else is interviewing in your cohort.... I've also been told by the program head that not all qualified candidates are accepted due to space limitations... how they make cuts amongst the qualified is beyond me. I still haven't heard anything either...

Hey nnarod, congratulations!!! It's relieving to know that someone on here got in and that letters are being mailed out. A few questions: Who exactly did you complain to? (Dean of SON, Adviser, etc.?) and how did you complain? (email, face to face?) Also as a side note: Are you male or female just out of curiosity....?

My interviewer told me that undergrad GPAs are alloted 15 points on the point scale they use to determine acceptance, and he made it sound like it was a significant amount of the total and he was pretty adamant about it. I've had a couple of emails back and forth with the department heads and the adviser, and they all are sticking their claim of how they DO NOT look at undergrad GPAs. So who knows what the truth is....Maybe it's taking so long b/c I've asked them about it in so much detail that they are reevaluating the entire process in order to ensure that people aren't being rejected for GPA reasons.... (this is my wishful thinking lol)

I'm looking into UofM ann arbor and eastern... what are the chances at wayne? i don't know much about madonna but i hear they have a program too.

No news still...... I'm starting to become pessimistic.... what if we all got rejected... again?

Has anyone heard yet? I remember in July some people got notified by email first before even receiving official letters...

Do you guys know whether OU looks at Undergraduate GPAs as a factor for acceptance into the 2nd Degree program... in other words is there a required or preferred minimum GPA from your first Bachelors degree?

Well I was told at the end of my second interview with OU that Undergrad GPA is a big factor in determining your acceptance into the program (15 points on a rigid point scale).... which was news to me since the advisor straight up told me in my orientation over a year ago that Undergrad GPA has nothing to do with acceptance, and that only your 5 core classes from Section A matter. I can even give them the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe the policy changed, however I was never notified even though I'm on their nursing students email list!! Was anyone else told the same???? if so we are all misinformed!!! This is very unprofessional and I pretty much based my whole pre-req game plan on the notion that my undergrad GPA wouldn't count!!

Go through Prometric, they are good and they have a lot of testing sites in Michigan. I had to take it twice since I forgot to do some basic things the first time around, but they are forgiving... even if you forget a step, but you remember at the end of your task, then before you tell them you have completed the task, you can say "I know that I should have done blah blah during such and such task". Just stay calm during the clinicals and go as slow as you want, ask questions if you want and they will answer whatever they are allowed to answer. Good Luck!

Congrats cdertiz!! I never received the letter about the decision dates being Dec. 15, but my interview is coming up in a couple days.... I'm a lot less confident and more nervous than I was the first time around. I think I took the interview for granted... definitely trying to focus more this time around. You have any tips for the interview, cdertiz?

I'm really annoyed that people who have no healthcare experience and lower GPAs than me have been accepted... but I'm hearing of people with a great deal of experience and passion for nursing being rejected. Also was anyone else asked if they were married or had children in their interview... ? Because I was, and that shouldn't be part of an interview process AT ALL!

Yea, by reapply they mean, just to the nursing school for the 2nd degree program, not to OU in general. You are good with the classes you already enrolled for. The advisor told me they should have our transcripts on file so no need to re-request transcripts from other schools. P.S. I am SERIOUSLY considering emailing the advisor about the short interviews. But I would feel more comfortable doing it if I knew there were others that were going to too.

you know what sucks for me... i took the A&P combined at OU for 5 credits which isn't accepted anywhere else! plus the microbiology i took is w/o lab so that's another class i would have to retake. also, it seems as though everyone felt RUSHED through their interview... who's all in for emailing the advisor (who is still working there by the way b/c she responded to my email) about how the interview process was very haphazard?! i think if enough people voice their concern, it will make a difference. i mean we work for years to get our pre-reqs done and wait for this pinnacle moment, and they end up making us feel like they have better things to do with their time?! it's absurd!! who's with me?
