  1. Well, I heard it's easier to get into than the other BSN programs in Colorado. I sure hope so! I have a couple of C's in my prereq classes, so I'm afraid that'll hurt me wherever I apply, but I don't want to retake them! I don't know anyone who's been through the program; I was hoping to find some people on this site who have done it, but they must be hiding.
  2. Hi! I had to call the school and ask to be transferred to the nursing department; no one would ever answer the number on the nursing department website. I had to pay $25 to apply to CSU, but there was no fee for the nursing school. And they told me I should know within a month, so I'm hoping to hear something by November! Good luck to you!!!
  3. Has anyone else applied to the CSU Pueblo degree plus program for summer of 2010? I just turned in my application. I haven't heard too many great things about the program, which is discouraging, but I don't have many options available for getting my BSN and I'd like it ASAP. Does anyone have any insight on it?
  4. I feel sorry for those who hate living in Arizona! Wanna trade places?! I went to school there for 4 years and I absolutely loved living in Tucson. I moved back to Colorado so I could have in-state tuition for nursing school, but my heart is still in Tucson, Arizona! :redbeathe I can't imagine that Tucson and Phoenix have a lot of nursing jobs available, though; the U of A's accelerated nursing program just cut its slots for nursing students by half because some of the hospitals where new grads get contracted to work at backed out of the program due to the economy. However, if you're interested in rural areas, Yuma County has a nursing shortage of 1400. Rural areas are almost always neglected and could use extra help.
  5. Yuma Regional Medical Center is indeed the only hospital in the area. That shouldn't make it hard to find a job, though; Yuma County has a shortage of 1,400 nurses!!! (I know this because I spent my summer doing a health needs assessment of Yuma County.) Everyone wants to move to the cities and the rural areas get ignored. Yuma County needs the help of health care professionals.
  6. Good advice! I start my clinicals on Thursday and I've been scared that I'll annoy someone, but you're right, gratitude and a good attitude can go a long way. :)
  7. Thanks, that would make sense. I sent in my fingerprints for a background check almost a month ago, so hopefully I'll hear back from them soon. I am not currently attending OJC; are you? I'm actually a student at a university out of state and will have my bachelor's degree in May.
  8. I love being called "honey" or "sweetie" or something of the sort. It makes me feel like the person actually cares about me. And I HATE being called "miss" or "ma'am." I'm not from the South either. But...I am only 22. (Although I must say, my mom hates the "ma'am" business, too."
  9. Thanks, G-Fan. :) I have the general info and fact sheets, sent in response to my question! Hopefully since we are in mid-March now, I can get an answer.
  10. giardiafan, I understand that the College of Nursing is quite busy right now, as I've had a few friends applying for 2009 and I'm quite familiar with the timeline. What irks me, however, is that I first spoke with a nursing advisor last semester who lead me to believe that I could apply for the ABSN 2009 since I'm graduating in May. Hence, I applied, only to find out in January that the advisor was wrong and I can't even submit my application until I have my bachelor's degree conferred on my transcript. I accepted their "Sorry for the inconvenience" and took their "if we can be of any additional assistance, let us know" to heart. So I e-mailed back asking one more question. Just one! I asked a simple question about whether or not I should take a certain class in the summer. I did not get an answer back, but instead a general e-mail with fact sheets and basic info that I already knew! (I don't think anyone even read my question.) And at the end of it, this: " I will be glad to speak to you further in mid-March when our admissions cycle is complete." I just find it very frustrating that no one at the CON has the time to answer one little question, especially since I am so close to them. (I am a public health student in the College of Public Health and the nursing building is quite literally next door! I feel so close, but so far!) Sorry for the venting. :) I get a little carried away when I feel like I receive poor "customer service," from whoever it may be. And good luck to everyone who got to apply this year! I'm a little jealous of you and wish that they would let those graduating in May apply as well.
  11. I'm trying to find out more info about the Yuma program also! The info I've received so far is very limited; I don't even know if it starts in 2009 or later. I e-mailed the contact person to see if I could get more info without actually traveling to Yuma for the info session, but haven't heard back yet. However, no one from the College of Nursing seems to want to talk to me until after the current application process is over. I sent out an e-mail with questions in January and received a reply saying that they would be happy to answer my questions at the end of March when they are done choosing applicants! :smackingf
  12. I applied to one school for Fall 2009! I finished all the pre-reqs: Statistics, A&P 1&2, Bio, Chem, English, Nutrition, Human Development, etc. My overall GPA is a 3.4 and I will probably graduate with a 3.4 as well. (I will have my Bachelor's degreee in May.) Bummer for me, because I really wanted to graduate cum laude with a 3.5! So close.
  13. Any community college in a rural area would be my bet for being the cheapest, shortest wait list, and they will accept you with the min. GPA. For example, I just applied to Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colorado, and it's first-come, first-served. I highly doubt there are a lot of people applying because most people prefer metro areas. But....it might be worth it to get done in 2 years instead of spending those 2 years on a wait list. Plus, cost of living is cheap and you don't have to fight traffic in rural areas either. :)
  14. Is anyone else applying to Otero Junior College in La Junta for Fall of 2009? Or is anyone in the program right now? Graduated from it? I'm interested in talking to people familiar with it. I received this e-mail: "Your application to the Otero Junior College Nursing Program has been received and will be reviewed for completion of admission requirements. After review and confirmation of having met the admission requirements, you will be notified by mail of placement on the admission list. If we find that you are missing one or more of the requirements, you will be notified by email of the missing requirements. All admission requirements must be complete before placement on the admission list. Students will be admitted on a first come, first served basis from the admission list to start the program this year." ---> What's an "admission list?" Is that the same as a wait list?
  15. Oh, man, I would love to trade places with you! :) I want someplace wetter, colder, and darker!!!! I'm sick of the Tucson heat.
