I am currently a clinical administrator at an small ambulatory surgery center. We are currently accredited by AAAHC under deemed status. We are now up for re-accreditation. It has come to my attention that in my state it is required that we have a certified medical records technologist or technician or a certified medical records technologist consultant. I brought this up to my medical director and board. The response that was given to me was for me to become certified myself. Does anyone know if that is possible. I have tried to research this online but to no avail. I am unclear of the exact requirements of an RHIA or RHIT. Does anyone know if a RN/BSN with an MS in Speech/Language Pathology and a CCC/SLP can take the exam for either certification? Or would I need yet more education? I would so much appreciate the help.
