  1. It is true that some graduates can find employment where they completed their final practicum/preceptorship. But there are some who do not. Myself and some of my classmates I graduated with do not work where we did our practicums. I applied directly through a health authority along with other new and experienced nurses and got hired. Many new nurses applied for The New Graduate Practice Start Program for employment at the health authority. As long as you meet the requirements to practice under the CRNBC/CRPNBC and especially if you have experience I don't think having a degree from another province would diminish your chance in acquiring employment here in BC. You should take a browse through employment sites for the health authorities (Fraser Health, Vancouver Coastal Health, Providence Health Care, Provincial Health Services Authority, Northern Health)
  2. I am in Psychiatric Nursing as well. In BC there are opportunities for psychiatric nurses (RPN) to bridge into the RN program. Douglas College has options for RPNs to access the BSN program for advanced placement into 2nd year (http://www.douglas.bc.ca/programs/nursing/options.html). BCIT also has this option for RPNs to bridge into the 5th level of their 3 year BSN program (http://www.bcit.ca/study/programs/8870bsn#entry). There is a new nursing program being constructed for those with degrees, so look out for that in the near future. Good luck to you!
  3. i have not yet graduated qveronica. im not sure if you are in a program in bc or you are an international nurse. your questions may be best answered by looking at the crpnbc.ca website and contacting them, also check out douglas.bc.ca and http://www.kwantlen.ca/calendar/programs/bpn.html. in regards to preparing for your examination this site http://www.crpnbc.ca/orientation_exam.pdf is very helpful as it provide a list of self study materials. exam preparation course if also available, the contacts are stated on the website. good luck to you!
  4. My sister is taking the Psych Nursing Degree program at Douglas College, and I'm taking the Psych Nursing Degree program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Douglas has a great program. My sister is going on to her third year in the program and was able to work a couple times a week and continue to do well on her studies. One day a week is definately manageable just stay on top of your readings and organize your time and priorities because the load increases as you get further through the program. Are you taking degree or diploma? My sister said its actually not too difficult and intense, although she does have great time management
