  1. To baptized by fire, although she is not obese, it seems like she fit the criteria of a chronic COPD'er who lives with sats of 80's?. Uhmmm, by the way, what's an oxymizer?
  2. Right now they have discontinued using the bipap at night, she goes on oxygen at 2 liters nasal cannula, satting around 86-92%. She will have a sleep study next week. We only use a portable oximeter in the facility, tried verifying the oximeter with my own finger which registered 97%, when i transferred it to her her finger the sat gradually dipped to 80-74%, heart rate range around 80-90's ( she was still on the bipap when i checked this). She seems a little bit dazed when i wake her up, but will be able to follow command. Thanks for the input, I will have to verify with the other nurses if the company renting the bipap has come to check her unit.
  3. Hi, just need your input on this. I work nites on LTC, we had this lady who has COPD with chronic resp. failure who is on the bipap 14/6 settings at night. She would always have sats of around 65-75% while sleeping, appears not to be in any respiratory distress, though her RR's would be around 25, with shallow breathing. I usually will have to rouse her from sleep, make her do some deep breathing/coughing, sat would gradually come up. Or if that does not work, her sats would usually come up on 0xygen at 2 liter flow on nasal cannula. I have already put a report on this to the NP, so far little has been done, they put her on an antibiotic for respiratory tract infection, and they have discontinued tapering her off her prednisone. I feel so stressed out with her on the bipap at night, coz I have to check on her every hour at night, make sure the face mask is snug and fit, and everything is connected and the O2 bleeds 2 liter on the bipap. Treatment order states by the way that her sat should be between 88-92%. And to add pressure she is a full code with poor lung reserve, and the family is always breathing down your neck. Need help, pls. Thanks!!!
  4. I have checked online BON, but so far none yet, guess I have to really wait..... katie and suzanne, any idea how quick the BON in CT process license? thanks!!!

  6. my computer stopped at 75, i was praying that it would not stop at 75 because i am not too sure with some of my answers, froze in my seat for several seconds when it did, and i was a nervous wreck waiting for the result via computer online.
  7. hooray, just found out i passed NCLEX last wednesday, is there a way for me to find out my license number immediately instead of waiting for it by mail, i need my license to apply for reciprocity in another state as soon as possible. thanks!!!
  8. Hi guys, just want to inform you that NVC has responded to my inquiry. I am scheduled for interview this Sept. 12. Hope everything goes well during the medical and interview.
  9. hi there!!!! case category: EX sched A USCIS receipt: jan 2004 Approval date: march 2004 Service center: Vermont NVC forwarded packet: Sept 2004 Forwarded additional documents; June 2005 Case completed: June 17, 2005 Case number: MNL2004XXXXX Interview date: ?????? how soon can I expect the interview date for the embassy. August 2005 interview schedule for embassy in Manila does not list my case number for interview. Should I expect it this September??? Really, anxious!!!! What if the visas are all used up again? My friends at work have all received their interview dates this August, except for 3 of us. Thanks
  10. hi, just called up NVC, they informed me that my case was completed last June 17, 2005. And will have to wait 6-8 weeks. Please tell me how soon will I be scheduled for an interview? I have checked with the Embassy page in Manila, the August schedule for interview is out, but my case number is still not listed for interview. Is it true that the 50,000 visas available will be used up come October? I am really anxious. Thanks
  11. Hi there Rep, we are almost in the same situation. Mine was filed in Jan 2004, Vermont SC, got a fast approval, March 2004. I think the visa fees were paid sometime in July, got the DS230 submitted last sept to the NVC, up to now, dont know where my files are, if it is still with the NVC or in the embassy. I have ask lawyer to follow it up. With the long wait for the priority date to become current, do you think it is a wise decision to just work in a mideast country for a year or two, till the PD becomes current again? Is it really a 2-3 year wait?
  12. Thanks for the reply canoehead. The reason why I am looking for some answers on this is because I am the one highlighted by other shift nurses for drawing up inaccurate dose. I was the one to open the 4 ml ampule stock and dose to be given is 2 ml of that ampule. The remaining dose is to be given by receiving shift A. I drew up the med using the first method: using syringe markings and then push out some of the fluid into needle deadspace. Calibrated the dose including the needle deadspace in this one. Second day, I opened another stock, this time calibrated the dose without including the needle deadspace. With the first method, they said the remaining stock was a tad short, something like 1.6 ml or 1.5 ml. With the second method, they said the remaining stock , was 3 ml!!! I’ve done some research on my own today using the same syringe and gauge needle, the deadspace in the needle is something like 0.1 ml. Just can’t believe something like that is left from the ampule with the second method.
  13. Hello there guys, I need help on this, coz i cant find any to answer my question. Needles have deadspace right?, the bigger the gauge, the bigger the deadspace. I need to know if this deadspace is suppose to be included when you calibrate the dose or do you measure up the needed dose up to the level of the luer lock or the point where needle and syringe meets? which is more accurate? thanks.
  14. I've been doing some research on my own to find out what happens, and based on the experience of a friend who left earlier in 2003, these are the steps: 2 months after she had the approval notice, she received a choice of agent letter from NVC, which she promptly sent back to NVC. 2 months after that, she received Packet 3, now known as Instruction package for immigrant visa applicant (IPFIVA) which contained the DS230 form. This was sent to her by the agency whom she named in her choice of agent letter previously. These documents were sent back to NVC together with visa payments. ( I think there are changes in these steps now since you have to send out the payments to NVC first, before they will send you the DS230 forms) 4 months after, she received Packet 4, otherwise known as Appointment package for immigrant visa applicant (APFIVA). These contained instructions for her medical examination and what other documents she needed to bring during her embassy interview. ( By this time you must have Visascreen and employment contract on hand) 3 weeks after, she received the official appointment letter from the embassy confirming the appointment date. ( I heard from sources that the actual time for this now is longer than 3 weeks, maybe 1-3 months) well my friend is the lucky one. I will keep you posted Suzanne, on what is happening with my case.
