Vandy Nurse Residency ?s
Hi there OUNurse- i'm sure you're really relieved to have the NCLEX all finished! Hope you passed :) I'm from Lima; on 75 between dayton and cincy. i know what you mean about the apt search! i've been there several times, and i have friends living there but it's still frustrating trying to find a place that's close, affordable and appealing! i've been checking craigslist a lot, but i'm not sure how legit some of the ads are... we'll see. i'm excited to start, although i'm nervous about graduating, moving down, studying for the nclex, and starting the program then testing all within about a month! it's gonna be a whirlwind

hey there kris and ounurse, congrats! i got in to the program too, in the adult health track. (adult med was my 1st choice). ounurse, i'm from ohio too! what part are you from? when will you all be moving down, and will you be taking your nclex before you go or after? (we don't graduate until june 11th, so with paperwork turnaround time, i think i'm going to have to sit for my nclex in tn once the residency starts.) have you gotten any information on the tn bon requirements (fingerprinting, authorization to test, etc.) as far as the license and testing application process goes? sorry for all the questions, i'm just really excited to get started sunshine-- i was an adn student with a 3.3 gpa (although i do have lots of bachelor's credit from other schools prior to my major change), and i'm finishing up my second year of clinical rotations. we did 1 a week for the 1st 2 qtrs, then 2 days a week for the last 4... our preceptorship is only 56 hours, but we have had a lot of experience already. i never worked as a tech, but have an active nurse aide license. i was a little worried they would look down on me as an adn student, but i think what they really want to see is how committed you are to the field and to vandy as well. i explained to them in detail why i wanted to work there as opposed to somewhere else.... the application is very involved, and of course all interviews are nervewracking, but the process was well worth it, and the people i've met so far were so nice! good luck to you, and if you have any questions about the interview process, look over this thread again (because i asked the members about a million of them while i was applying!) or make a post and i'll try and answer as best i can.

Kris, I haven't found out about the license transfer yet. I figured I'd better focus on getting through the interview first, and deall with that headache if I get an offer. (I might just go ahead and take it in TN) Anyhow, I don't have any idea about relocation pay; seems reasonable, but I'm sure that'll be something you could ask 'em before signing your contract if they give you an offer. Good luck on your interview! Post on here and let me know how it goes, will ya? Thanks :)

Vandy Nurse Residency ?s
hi there ladies and gents! i am currently a student in an associate's degree program, due to graduate in early june. i'm in the process of applying to vanderbilt's nurse residency program for july of this year ('09). can anyone give me pointers as to what they're looking for in the application/letter of goal intentions? (and should i be lucky enough to receive an interview, what should i expect during that?) i'm a bit nervous because i'm sure there are a lot of people vying for a spot in the program. will the fact that i am from out of state, and will only have an adn as opposed to a bsn make me less attractive as a candidate? (this is my 5th year of college, but i had a different major at a 4-year university before changing schools.) any answers or tips that you all could give me would be appreciated very much! i love nashville and have been looking forward to graduating so that i can move there, and the program at vandy sounds like such an enriching and wonderful opportunity; i just want to do all that i can with my app to give myself the best chance. lastly (sorry for all the questions!), how quick is the tn board of nursing at granting licensure if you pass your nclex and are registered in another state? thanks a million folks! have a good one:typing

RN-BSN programs and new ADN grad jobs
Hi there! I'm a nursing student in Ohio who is looking to move south after my graduation in June of '09. I'm interested in starting work right away, but delaying going back to school for my BSN until I have a few months' experience under my belt (Jan. of '10, I hope). Georgia is at the top of my list of places to move, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend which hospitals to apply to that offer new grad training programs/externships to begin with, and who also offer tuition reimbursment for continuing education? Kennesaw's RN-BSN program sounds demanding, but promising; however, I'm open to hearing about any other RN-BSN programs that you all have found worthwhile. Any information (including best times to apply for jobs, where to live, etc.) would be much appreciated! Thanks so much :)

Belmont University Accelerated BSN
Hi there, Beth! I applied to Belmont's nursing program and was accepted to start in Jan. 2007. I was still deciding at the time whether to do the accelerated program or not. (I was a transfer student with a decent amount of gen-eds already.) I believe my gpa at the time was around a 3.5, but I don't exactly remember. Unfortunately, I had to leave Belmont to return home to Ohio because some family health issues, but I would recommend it 110%! (I will be graduating from an ASN program in my hometown in June, and plan to attend Belmont for my RN-BSN if I return to Nashville.) In my short time at Belmont, it was clear that their professors were extremely passionate AND knowledgable about their work. They seemed to really care about making their students become the best nurses that they could be, which was encouraging. It was clear that their expectations were high, but I was treated with respect. Classes are small and personal, and the campus itself is just the right size-very welcoming and you don't feel as if you're being swallowed up. If you have not already experienced the other staff (i.e., nursing admissions, etc.) they're also wonderful to work with- any question you may think of will not go unanswered. I am normally a person who shops around for the 'best' deal, but in this case, you truly get what you're paying for. Belmont is worth every penny! Good luck with acceptance! I hope this has helped :)
