study method..is this effective?? plz help i want 2 pass medsurge!
I failed my first medsurge test, i got a 71%..i was soo mad! i studied really hard for it.i just feel like its alot of info to retain and i cnt remember it all ..i read, i looked up somethings on the medsurge made easy book when i didn't understand a concept and i needed further detail, and i focused on the reading r/t to powerpoint, and i did some ati.so i read first and highlight and then i study the material...what am i doing wrong? yesterday and today i tried something different, although very time consuming i think it will work! :)..i am basically rewriting the powerpoints and reading over what im writing, and adding some notes to those powerpoints as i go along? and then before the test i will study that material..and im thinking of having one day probably mondays where i will do some questions from the medsurge cd? i dont know..any pointers..the next exam is the midterm on neuro, gi, diabetes, and musculoskeletal..i wish i would have done the same for the first exam but no time to that now...im hoping the test will be more on the new material than the old material..lets see..i went over 1 ch yesterday..it was very long, and i will be going over another one today and if there is time i will do questions for about an hour and a half..and for pharmacology i am goin to start doing flashcards..oo yes lol and do some questions from the ati book as well and focus on the most important nursing interventions, and maybe do some flashcards of the basic math because that is what is coming out on the medsurge and pharm tests as well..pharm in a medsurge test! ugh i dont like it! it doesn't help that i failed all three of my skills that i had in one day! failed for dumb mistakes..n i have to prepare for that 2 and not to mention clinicals are starting tomorrow! im going nucking futS! i want to survive this semester, but im having a bad start and i am really trying!

hello question about medsurge made incredibly easy book?
I bought this book, does anyone have it? Do you recommend it, was helpful to you? This is my first week of medsurge..and they want us to prepare for class by reviewing modules related to the neurological system and reading content such as head injuries, brain attack, etc..can i review the neurological system, such as the anatomy and physiology of it in this book..i think it gives you the key facts over all, well if anythin can write back asap..i will start reading tomorro...also i need advice on how to count drip factor...any tips? like i know if you have 25gtt per min you divide it by 4 and that will b about 6 drops every 15sec. so you control the roller clamp at a certain speed, so that you can obtain 6 drops in 15sec..so i guess this is trial and error.. this is wut is freaking me out...because you have to look at your watch and drops..i have a digital watch with the actual seconds, i think that is better? oh and i can practice this at home rite, with a clothes hanger, and going over steps?? advice , thanx have a great day!

1st day of med surge skills and i was already frustrated! advice? -student at mdc med
Well i had med surge skills yesterday for the first time, and it all seemed to be happening so quickly..we had a small orientation, then the teacher spoke about iv's and we did some calculations, and then she showed us how to do IV therapy, Iv medications, and venipuncture..but she did everything so fast and when someone told her to slow down, she started talking differently as if she were making fun of the student, i dont know..basically we only had 20 min 2 practice, which flew by..oh and i don't understand how to regulate drop factor, how do u count..for example if you 25gtt min..my friends explained but i dont know if i was so frustrated that it wouldn't go thru or if there explanation was confusing..help! well i know it was just my first day..she says we will practice more next class, but i dont c how if we have a new skill next class, i think its trachesectomy or something...oh did i mention we have to perform all of our skills in one day..20 min. each, talk about nerve wrecking! the class is 5 weeks, so its going to go super fast!! n wat is really aggravating me is that the skills lab is going to be booked this whole month, so how do we practice outside of class, we have class time to practice but for me that is never enuff..i need more time! advice plz...is there anyway you can improvize with the materials we are given..i am very upset about this!

How do you find the time to work out while in nursing school? Help i gained 10lbs!
thanks everyone for all your suggestions! i don't know about listening to a lecture while exercising tho..that isn't very motivating..i usually listen to music wen i exercise..lol it keeps me going, im not crazy about exercising but it's good for u and the music is what pumps me up lol but the way i c is that it would defintely be a stress reliever and a break from the books and when i come back i will be more refreshed and ready to conquer anything lol..i guess that is a good way of looking at it! also the snack thing is a good idea as well..i dont know how u listen to a lecture while working out tho n how do u read or study, i just can't..i wouldn't be able to concentrate at my gym..well this month i dont have clinical until feb. i believe i have about two days off from class, and another day i start at 1pm, so i will be taking advantage of that..i think i can lose those 10lbs in a month, and i will be wearing my fajita..dont know how to say that in english but it's something u wear around your waist that makes you sweat like crazy lol..so my plan is exercise now in january and lose those extra lbs, and then if i cnt later on and i gain the weight back i won't look horrible because like i mentioned before i am not overweight at 120..i look okay, but it really sucks because i haven't weighed that since i was 18 and im weighing that again.. but i am definitely changing the way i eat ..newyear's resolution lol...well i wanna keep writing but im gettin sleepy..thanx all and happy new year!

How do you find the time to work out while in nursing school? Help i gained 10lbs!
There is so much to do while in nursing school, wen you are not in class, you are studying or practicing skills which is very time consuming, and then you go home and go over the steps, and practice some more lol..not to mention you need to shower, eat, feed the dog, throw out trash, sleep lol..you get the point..I feel like nursing school is exhausting, especially on days that you have to be a clinical at 7am and you need to be up by 5am..when do you exercise, and how do you have the energy to do so? oo yeah and when you are not studying, you want some time to relax..who wants to exercise? i have gained 10lbs since i started nursing school and i just finished my first semester..part of it , its my fault because i chose to eat certain foods, because i like to eat..normally i would just exercise and burn off those calories, but now i feel like i have no time or energy to do that! but i also blame it on stress..wen im stressed i eat more, also for some reason studying makes me more hungry! lol i guess i have to start watching what i eat, and eat healthier..its not like im overweight or anything, i look fine like this, but im not very happy with the way i look .but i dont want to gain any more weight! any advice?
