Any Miami Dade College students going for the acceler. or Generic option fall 2009?
For those of you who went to orientation, how was the registration process? I know it's a bit different for the Accelerated Students, because you're options are limited as it is. I just want to know if there is flexibility to choose and create your schedule with all the required classes, as opposed to just selecting from Option A or B, which already has the schdules assembeled. Also, I want to know if registration is done in alphabetical order, or do you just hop in line and hope you get in the front so that you can have your first picks? If any of you happen to know the process for the Generic Full time, please let me know. Thanks.

Congrats to all of you! There were so many pages that I can't remember who got in and who didn't! So whoever got in, CONGRATS. For those of you who didn't, I'm sorry. I wouldn't stress over it so much though. Yeah it sucks, but at least you know what to expect for next time. This coming fall semester I would just take how many classes I'd need to bring up my gpa to at least a 3.8, and then reapply for January...or actually next year. I believe an advisor told me that the gpa considered for the Spring class is the end of summer gpa. I'm sure some of you will make it in the Spring class though! Don't give up. It's just mad hard now that EVERYONE is trying to switch careers, so naturally it's much more competitive. If you really want it, just keep improving and trying!

Any Miami Dade College students going for the acceler. or Generic option fall 2009?
Hey you guys, I went home yesterday and checked my mailbox! I got my acceptances into both the Accelerated and Generic Programs! Wooo hoooo! I'll most likely turn down the Accelerated Option, so if any onf you have freinds who are still waiting after all the acceptance letters have been mailed out, let them know there's still one more spot available. Good luck to the rest of you and I hope to meet you guys come fall...or orientation!

Did you mean that the CUT OFF GPA is 3.5 so far? not starting! Anyway, I hope what you say is true because it's ridiculous that they're taking so long. Especially for those of us who will need to seek private sources of financial aid should we get in. Someone mentioned in an eralier post that they heard that they mail out the rejection letters first, and that is how it was done last year. I think that statement is incorrect. They actually mail out the acceptance letters first, and after everyone has accepeted and all the spots are filled (because some people do reject and then they have to pick the next person on the rank list to offer an acceptance to), THEN they mail out the rejection letters. They have to make sure that all the spots are filled before they scan start rejecting people. So in theory, if you know that they have started sending out letters and a week or two goes by and you still haven't received one, then you likely did not make the cut-off and will probably end up with a rejection letter later instead...unless of course you happen to be so luckly that someone turns down an acceptance and you were next on the wait list. I wouldn't hold my breath on that one though. But there will be some offers turned down as we were told that it is possible to get accepted into both the Accelerated and Generic programs (for those who applied to both and happen to be at the top pf the ranks). I did that, so I know if I get accepted, I will likely be freeing up a spot in one of those programs for someone waiting to get it. Good luck to all!

Which GPA is more heavily weighed in consideration for acceptance into a CRNA program
You are right. I've already checked with the schools I want to attend and they accept BSBA's.I also have read about the possibilty of CRNA requiring a doctorate in the future. But I understood that to be for newcomers and not for those already practicing. Even if that is so, the way I look at is I can avoid getting a BSN now and wait to get it later if necessary.I want to avoid the cost if its not essential. At least I know if I will have to get it later it'll only take a year and I'd be in a better position to afford it. Anythings possible so I will have to re-assess everything once I complete my ASN.

Which GPA is more heavily weighed in consideration for acceptance into a CRNA program
The schools I want to apply to do not require a BSN. I think I'll play my crads and skip the BSN and work on my other credentials. If i have the minimun to attend a graduate program, I'll focus my energies on my GRE, CCRN, and some graduate level courses. Thanks for your comments.

How did you get into FIU?
Hi All, I will be starting a BSN program this fall and it's prompted me to think about my next planned step (after a year or two in ICU of course). I heard that FIU has a pretty good and moderately affordable program. My question is, how did you get into FIU (gpa, work experience, interview Q/A's, grad classes)? Thank you and I look forward to your response!

Which GPA is more heavily weighed in consideration for acceptance into a CRNA program
Hi All, I am currently in the process of pursuing my five year plan to become a CRNA. I have a BSBA from Boston University, with an overall GPA of 2.8. For BU's program at the time, this was good! I was typically a B student with not many C's. The program was extremely difficult (they have since revised it to lighten the load at the constant complaints of students and parents) but I still did pretty well and graduated in 3 years. My last sixty credits towards my degree (including a few summer school classes taken at a community college) averages to about 3.1 or 3.2 (depends on how they weigh it). I plan to start a one year accelerated ASN program in August. My current GPA at this new school is a 4.0 (which includes all my science classes to date...no sciences towards my BSBA. I feel like I will do exceptionally well in the ASN program given my recent track record and the fact that I am much more motivated and my heart is into it (unlike business). Here is my dilemma: I am trying to debate on whether or not I should pursue a BSN online once I finish the ASN program, in hopes that my BSN GPA will be much higher than my BSBA gpa. I am reluctant to do this as it will be quite expensive and I'm already paying on school loans from my BSBA. The schools I intend to apply to requires that I have a bachelor's (in ANY field) and be an RN only...not that I have a BSN. My question is, does anyone know which GPA is considered for admissions purposes to a CRNA program? Will they take the last 60 from my BSN or from my BSBA? And if I decide not to do the BSN, when they look at my BSBA gpa, will they at least take into consideration my ASN GPA (assuming that it will be much higher) in determining whether or not I have the ability to succeed in the program? Any feedback will be helpful. Thanks.

MDC Accelerated Program
Ogloria - I just wanted to give you some updated information. I confirmed with MDC Medical Campus today and they said that they start sending out rejection/acceptance letters by June 1st...not July! Good luck.

MDC Accelerated Program
Magnesium don't listen to my sis, I have dibs on your books!

MDC Accelerated Program
Ogloria- from what I can remember from what an advisor over at the Medical Campus told me, applications are reviewed beginning May 2nd. I believe he said that they start sending out letters by July 1st...and the shocker, there are only 40 (may be 40-43...can't remember exactly) seats in the program. Good luck. I'm in the same boat as you!

MDC Accelerated Program
Iridius- just curious, how soon into the program do you start clinicals? Does anyone know what date in August school starts? I know I should know, but I don't and am too lazy to look it up!

MDC Accelerated Program
Thaks iridus. It was very refershing to read someone speak of the experience on a positive and "doable" note. I think that I'll be ok. I'm pretty good in school despite the fact that I have two kids and a full time corporate job...I still manage to always have the highest grades in my classes. I'm hoping that nursing school will be similar if not exactly the same. I'm certain that I'll be pursuing an advanced degree. I actually went to a Medical Magnent high school and always had the intention and desire of being in the healthcare field. I was discouraged when I realized how long I'd be in school if I pursured the area in medicine that most interested me. Needless to say, it doesn't seem that much of a long time now that 10 years have already passed! I pursued business instead, with ulterior motives in mind. I knew if that if it didn't work out that I'd have to go back to school because I don't enjoy Finance enough to be stuck doing it for the rest of my life. So now I'm back in school pursuing my original and only passion. Honestly, being uninformed played a big role in me becoming sidetracked. Had I known that I could still practice my particaluar area of interest in healthcare as a nurse instead of an MD, and get there much quicker, I would have done this in the first place. I'm much more informed now. So here I go!
