G"day Cathyr, if you haven't already done it, when you first qualified they will have sent you your registration, the Statement of Entry to the roll or register, you are sure to have had this, you need to have it copied and signed as a genuine copy by a JP or whoever else can do it and that's it, you should have no trouble getting work in Canberra because nobody else can find their way around the road system! Only one way, if you are an experienced remote nurse capable of working way out in the bush - on your own - and also maybe rural remote hospitals where you need to be capable of doing everything from suturing to X-ray to delivering babies, dealing with emergencies etc. then it is possible to earn $100k. pa as an agency nurse, but to do this you must be able to find work every week of the year, be prepared to travel and, again, be VERY experienced, oh, you mustn't mind crocs, snakes, flood, fire and drought too much either!!

HI, a little story about working in aged care: pretty much all RN's meet difficulties with the assistants, usual reason is, residents and carers have usually been there for ages, know each others needs inside out, new RN comes along, sees things with fresh eyes and commits the heinous sin of TRYING TO CHANGE THINGS Next, sorry, but this is particularly true of new graduates or those who have never worked in aged care, the residents are viewed as patients, not as people living in their own home, it just takes a shift of attitude, take things slowly, you must fit in around all of them, not them to you, in aged care you very much have to earn trust of staff and residents, when you do, they will love you, don't worry, it happens to 99% of nurses, particularly the more caring ones who really want to get involved, PLEASE don't give up on aged care! Not sure what you mean, in what capacity are you trying to work in Australia? Here, enrollment is different to registration, if you are enrolled, is that the same as LPN? Anyhow, your training establishment must have details of the course you undertook,, either the establishment itself or the board that qualified you, how could they not? Keep asking, and ask different officials as you simply have to obtain a transcript of your training or nobody will know if you have covered the subjects required to qualify in Australia, good luck, which part of Australia are you aiming for? as others have mentioned, the key is documentation of unsafe practices you have noted and documentation of having eported these to the appropriate persom, presumably an incident or hazard form. To quote you: "Several staff have expressed concern and we really hope she doesn't end up killing someone" You must discuss this with your peers and, together, decide upon a plan of action, as should she harm a patient and you are aware of her shortcomings and found not to have acted on your concerns, they (management) will get you that way. Can your union help?

Shame Lovehospital, as I am sure elderly residents would appreciate somebody young and with a bit of spirit (and who look nice too).As a general rule, they always seem to enjoy the presence of students, with their enthusiasm, optimism and energy Off topic, I know, but I think I'm done with this thread now, hey, maybe you are having a bit of fun here!

Lovehospital, On the one hand, nurses are supposed to think for themselves, eflective practice, critical thinking and ll that, on the other hand, there is sometimes the power thing going on! Neverthelss, the other repliers have made very good points regarding nail polish (infection), acrylic nails (I know you didn't mention them) can grow fungi and pseudomonus, and hair can most definately, without doubt, be grabbed and pulled - hard. I can't see anything wrong in a nicely tailored uniform though, adds to the professinal image we are supposed to strive for. I remember one nurse who used bright colours in her hair, the elderly patients loved it, cheered 'em up no end, but..... you'ved guessed it, no go. Good luck and be as free spirited as you are allowed to be, just go with it for now, your day will come

In Australia, it doesn't really matter if you practice aged care nursing in public or private nursing homes/hospitals. The paperwork is mountainous and there is no getting away from it, if you want the funding - provide the paperwork, every aspect and function of the human body is assessed and appropriate care is planned, then proof of care is required. Standards are very high. RN duties, in general? Drug rounds, dressings, supervision of caregivers and paperwork. I'm not sure of woring conditions at Mercy hospitals, like all others, some have good reputations others do not. One word of warning, EVERYTHING closes on a Sunday in Rocky, so make sure you arrive on any other day. I worked a 6 week contract at a QH aged care facility in Rocky, most Rockhampton hospitals are understaffed, probably Mercy is no different, I hope you enjoy Queensland, I may be biased, but the far north is really lovely, hope you will get up this far

Queensland Health seems most helpful, sponsorship, relocation etc. Excellent rural/remote package - free accommodation and they actually reply to you quite quickly good luck
