  1. I just got in Cocoa program starting Monday with 34 points, a very high TEAS 4.0 and a very high GPA with my completed AA. They say they don't use the GPA because some people may have taken fluffy easy classes while other taken more difficult science and math. Although I was told when I turned my paperwork in if it comes down to 2 people with same TEAS, points and so on, they will look at GPA as last resort for decision making. I did not turn in any recommendation letters and never worked in in medical field. I only got 2 extra points for AA. The TEAS... it is worth buying the official TEAS 5 book online, booksamillion, craigslist and so on. I studied that book like crazy for about 6-7 weeks in all the subjects (especially math) with the exception of the sciences which I skimmed over. I thought I still had all the sciences memorized since I was an "A" student. Big mistake! I did the worst on sciences. Thankfully I did fantastic in all the other areas. I am not trying to brag.. just saying STUDY the official manual for many weeks in advance. It will really help make the difference! This is going to be harder than anything I have ever done. We already have loads of homework for our first classes on Monday. So much to memorize. Be ready for a huge challenge!! Good luck everyone!
  2. Cocoa, FL Good Luck, vbs_ga!
  3. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
  4. Hi firewife777, I am getting ready to apply. I take the teas on the 25th. How about you? Have you done all the required items? I am concerned about the points. I have 28 points and a GPA of 3.81. I am finishing my last class for AA and it is College Algebra, so I am not sure if they will give me those 4 points for AA and C. Algebra or if they want C. Algebra completed before applying. I am going today to see an advisor at Cocoa. I did this a couple semesters ago but want to make sure I am on track. Let me know how you are doing. I hope we both get in.
  5. She'll be 52 whether in school or not!! I love your Aunt! I will also be 52 when I finish my RN program. (If I pass this TEAS test this month) GO for it! I have made such good friends with some sweet young future nurses. A couple of them that I took pre-reqs with, are like additional kids to me. This is something I always wanted to do but life swayed me temporarily other directions. Good luck!
  6. Thank you, science in flowers.
  7. I just found out I am scheduled to take teas 4 on the 25th of Jan. Very short notice, so I am stressed. I went to Barnes and Noble and bought the TEAS V book because that was all they had. Do you think it will be OK using V for teas 4? I need some kind of study plan to make up for the short notice. Any suggestions would be great. My school requires 85% reading and 73% overall. I should be very strong in the reading area. Math scares me without a calculator. I have found many threads on TEAS but now I am overwhelmed by information overload. Can someone give me their best hints for what I should study for the next 2 weeks? I think I can just scan the reading/english language usage. Also should I return the TEAS V book and have the TEAS 3/4 book sent overnight($20) from ATI? I don't mind the expense at this point because I only get 1 try at TEAS per year at my school. I am so stressed I can't concentrate today!! I need some direction. I am a 50 yr old student that graduates with AA this term. I have only one math course I am completeing. I could use some nursing friends, that have been through this already. I am grateful for this website. Thanks again for any suggestions. Becky
  8. Good question, mamajjr. I need that answer as well. If we don't hear something, I will let you know in about a week. I am going to buy the practice tests when I get a little studying done. I just found out 2 days ago that I am scheduled for the Jan 24th TEAS 4.0 test. I found the TEAS V book at Barnes N Noble last night. I wish they had a book 4.0. They had a book 3.0 but it said nothing of 3.0/4.0 or any 4.0 on it. Can someone clarify which book I really need and where I can get it quick? Good luck to everyone taking this test!!
  9. Good luck to you, I am a 50 yr old student. Just finished all prereqs. I believe it is never too late. Don't give up regardless of whether they are too old.
  10. I think that you have asked a legitimate question. As a student I also would like to hear it from the "nurses" all around the country themselves, rather than turn to a "website" that may need updated or is based on one place. Of the 31 comments, I believe there were only 2 or 3 that came close to giving a real answer. Although there was good info on many of the other posts. I agree that should not walk up to just anyone at a party, on the street, at the mall, and ask how much do you make? But this is a place for sharing info. If someone doesn't want to share, they go about their day reading other topics. I know it is different for everyone based on shift, salary, withholdings and so on. But those could be easily addressed by explaining I worked 72 hours in 6 shifts, after taxes, medical, 401k..... I made $...... last pay period. Two months ago I brought home $...... but I worked 5 hours overtime at $..... for a total of ..... hours. After the many vague answers and answers that were from nurses that choose to basically say NOYB, instead of moving on with their day, I have new questions. WHY IS THERE such a problem with sharing? Is there a concern that if you are paid well people will flock to your area? Are you concerned that you are not paid well? Maybe it is like in my husbands case. There is a clause in his contract that he is not to share his salary information. I just don't get it but maybe its because I am old and been around the block too long. Wish I was done with school and had a pay stub sitting around, I would give you an exact example for my area in Florida.
  11. Wow, lots of info and opinions. I appreciate everyones thoughts. I am almost afraid to ask, but what is an OP? It appears, despite my age, the BS may be the better route. If I understand my CC advisor correctly, I can actually do my BSN through a program that University of Central Florida has with my current school. It will cost a bit more than the AS RN and I have to take 2 semesters of language, advanced math and a couple other classes. As I mentioned before, it adds about 2 semesters. Thanks everyone. I think I will do it.
  12. Ok, that makes sense. So which would you do if you could have your choice? I thought I had everything mapped out and was on a perfect course to get in the program by doing my prereq's at the CC and getting in their program. Now I have new prereq's with chemistry, 2 years foriegn language, additional math's, and a couple others added for the BSN. I was set (in my mind)to start the AS program w/ prereq's completed in Fall 09 but if I do the BSN I wont start until Fall 2010. I would be done with AS at 51 years old! I would be done with BS at 52 years old! Taking age into consideration, ability to get a job with type of degree, and the knowledge you all have as having done this already, What Would You Do??? Thanks for your advice!!
  13. I don't have an answer for you since I am still a student myself. I just wanted to say congratulations and good luck. I hope you get some feed back from a "seasoned interviewee" soon.
  14. I am 48 and in community college doing all my prereqs for entrance to the nursing program. I had planned to do the AS for RN but when I registered last week for more of my classes, the advisor suggested I take classes to transfer to get the BS in nursing. I went ahead and followed her lead but I am second guessing myself. Should I go back to planning to do the AS for RN because I will be too old to worry about moving to management later or go for the BS. I live in Florida if that makes any difference. Thanks!
  15. This is my first post and I am so grateful for all the positive answers to this question. I have worried a lot about age and career. This is wonderful to have this support group.
