LTC... Let's vent! Comments, concerns, suggestions?
I would like to know from the people who know best what you think about LTC. I feel like something needs to be done. For everyones sake. Please Comment on this issue .I am tying to build enough facts, information, and statistics to make a difference where it counts. I plan on trying to come up with a plan to help the Pt and staff in long term care but I need a plan... and I need to prove there is a need for change... please comment!!! You all are wonderful. I have a few more blogs I have put on here posted and your expertise and compassion are invaluable to my plight.:heartbeat:yeah:

NP's in LTC... to be or not to be!!!!!
Thank you for the Replies! I am really trying to start a movement with the utilization of NP's in LTC . I am very passionate about the need for change in the way our elderly are treated and cared for, and it is only going to get worse with our aging populations. I can really use these comment to help change things! Please pour your heart out!

NP's in LTC... to be or not to be!!!!!
so i hear there is mixed feeling about np's in ltc. some think it's great because there is someone there all the time to avoid er visits and authorize med changes etc... but others think they give the staff more work and get in their way. i personally believe it is the approach we are taking in hiring np's in the facility. medi-cal and medicare cover np's. and they should be working directly under the pcp helping in emergency situations and offering the facility and facility staff assistance when needed. they can be privately contracted to do this with no cost to the physician or facility ... because they are covered by medicare and med- cal... why don't facilities do this? and if they do is it working? i believe the residents in long term care need all the help they can get, considering the ratio of nurse to pt, the np in ltc is a blessing if utilized appropriately. what do you think?

LTC- What do you think the issue is?
What do you all think about Physician workload? it seemed that they could not be there enough. We would have to do mounds of paper work to send the pt to the ER because the DR could not see the pt that week. Lord forbid any med changes...

I love it, keep the info coming, I am trying to start a LTHC awareness program, starting in San Diego, but hopefully spreading the word.

LTC- What do you think the issue is?
Anyone who has worked in LTC see's that there is an issue. I wonder what you all think is the stem of these issues (ie. infections, bed sores, ER transfers ect...), but more importantly how do we fix the problem? Do we need more state and federal funding to these facilities for staffing, community awareness projects, Fed/State insured programs to reduce staffing shortage and Physician workload? What do you think my friends!
