  1. Thank you all for your replies and kind words! They are very appreciated. MelMarie: Thank you for your concern about FMLA. I actually decided to call HR and see what they said and she said that I am elligible for the full 12 weeks. That is a huge relief. :)
  2. AJPV: THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! Your comment means so much. :)
  3. obenfermera1: Thank you so much for your reply! Your honesty and insight is greatly appreciated. I think that all of those "what-if's" if your unit is nice, if your coworkers are nice, if you do good in orientation, etc.. is what is making me feel nervous. But it has helped so much to have all of your replies and encouragement. I agree, family and babies are blessings! I am going to try to take your advice. Work my hardest, be on my best behavior *wink*, and just try to enjoy my pregnancy! I feel like I am heading in the right direction now of "preparing for the worst" while hoping for the best. :) At least I now know what to expect!
  4. Thank you all so much for your reply's! I really appreciate your encouragement. It was greatly needed today. LynnBaker: Thank you for your prayers! Good luck with nursing school! Nurseadc: Thank you for the encouraging words! I do feel blessed. :) MassED: I agree!! Thank you. I was just worried about hard feelings, but I think that this will be my best option. AJPV: That is wonderful news!! Thank you! I have actually been an employee at this hospital for the last 3 years and since I am not breaking employment, just transfering to a new position, I get to keep my FMLA benefits and there will not be a break in them as I have already met my year of employment. I am very relieved over this! I think it is 6-12 weeks (6 paid, 6 unpaid) and they have to hold your position or a similar position. Esme12: Thank you!! I think that this is the best plan also and I pray that she does understand. She seems like a really wonderful person from my interviews, so I think that she will. The unknown is just scary. :) Thank you so much for your well-wishes!!
  5. Well.. It's official. I am pregnant. Husband and I didn't change a thing, its a miracle (or fluke). It is crazy. I never, ever thought I would have a first reaction to pregnancy as "NO!!!!!!" I have spent the last 5 days fluctuating between crying and feeling like everything could be ruined: to extreme happiness that God has allowed me to get pregnant (I had 2 miscarriages prior to nursing school and was told I would have a hard time getting pregnant). I know that I am only 5 weeks and there is still a high chance of miscarriage and that thought alone terrifies me. I do NOT want to lose it... But I am feeling very overwhelmed. The roller coaster of pregnancy hormones? Perhaps. First time mommy worries. Probably. I graduated from nursing school in May 2011 and I am starting my dream job in Labor and Delivery in an 18 week Versant training program on August 15. I will be only 7-8 weeks at the time. I am so terrified that my Nurse Manager is going to be upset and maybe not give me a fair chance at this dream! I do not think I will tell her until I am at least 13 weeks (2nd Tri), as the miscarriage rate goes down then. I do want to be upfront and honest with her and I do NOT want her to find out from someone else. I am starting this career in a hospital where I actually know about 3 other nurses on the unit. Once I tell my friends and family, I am afraid she would find out through the grapevine. I would like to let her know that I plan to give this career my ALL and work as hard as ever to be a great Labor and Delivery Nurse. I am a current employee at this hospital and have been for 3 years as a medical transcriptionist as I went through nursing school; so I do not think she will fire me. Also, when the time comes, I have FMLA. I am just worried about how she will react, as well as the other nurses on the unit, to finding out that the new nurse is preggers. I am afraid it will put me in a negative light and this career is so important to me. I feel so stressed.
  6. SpelaD: According to Lippincotts Review For NCLEX RN: "Insulin needs fall significantly for the first 24-hours postpartum because the client has usually been NPO for a period of time during the labor process and the labor process has used maternal glycogen stores. If the client breast feeds, lower blood glucose levels decrease the insulin requirements. With insulin resistance gone, often the client needs little or no insulin during the immediate postpartum period. Although the needs for insulin decrease during the intrapartum period, the insulin requirements fall further during the first 24 hours postpartum. After the first 24 hours postpartum, the insulin requirements may fluctuate markedly, needing constant adjustment during the next few days as the mother's body returns to the nonpregnant state." GOODLUCK TOMORROW!! :redpinkhe:
  7. OOOHHH!! Goodluck!! I thought Kaplan was very similar to NCLEX.. Sleep, Eat, and PRAY!
  8. Congrats to have at least gotten it over with!! I took my boards in CA on June 15th and also shut off at 75 questions. I dont have your will-power though and checked PVT as soon as my status said delivery successful!! I got the good popup, but I am having a HARD time being encouraged by it. I feel anxious and nervous, but somehow relieved to at least have taken the NCLEX once. I agree about Saunders, I did around 2,000 Saunders questions prior to taking NCLEX and about 1,500 Kaplan (I was question crazed.. haha!) and I felt like I was sitting for another practice exam while I was taking NCLEX in that the questions were worded and had the same "feel" as the practice ones. Good luck to you in your wait!! :redpinkhe
  9. Sorry to hear this... Figured you could use a hug.
  10. So, I am officially worried. On June 15th (1 week ago exactly) I took my NCLEX-RN in California. I had 75-questions and I finished in 1 hour and 5 minutes. I walked out feeling terrified, as I honestly couldn't judge if I did well or not. Three hours later I checked the pearson vue trick and I got the "Good" pop-up! I was super relieved and hopeful that I had indeed passed and this has been helping me to keep my sanity for the last week!! HOWEVER.. This morning 5 of my fellow NCLEX testers from my class had their license number posted on the CA BON!! Some of them had taken it about a week before me.. But there were 3 that took it 1 day before me!! Now I am scared. I just need some reassurance that I still stand a chance to have passed and that doesn't mean that I failed.. RIGHT?!?! Anyone with similar situation in Cali?
