  1. I'm just curious about whether this is normal or not.. Our nursing program just decided this year that they are requiring the seasonal flu shot. Last year, they accepted waivers, but this year (which is our senior year), they have decided to make it required. Our clinical sites do NOT require it- and incidentally, many of the RNs we work with there choose not to receive the vax. I took a very informal poll and was surprised by how many choose not to receive the vaccination. I'm aggravated that they added this new requirement, without much notice. And the clinical sites don't require it, so... why the sudden change? It doesn't make a lot of sense to me. There is only one place left in our state that has the seasonal flu shot in stock and it's quite a long drive.. and when I called, they couldn't say for sure how many they had left/when exactly they would run out. Have any of you dealt with this?
  2. So sorry to hear about your PTSD. I know that must have been very difficult. It's just that so often, the risks of c-section are completely glossed over, while the dangers of VBAC are grossly exaggerated (been there, done that, had c/s with my first- terrible experience/recovery with PPD afterwards- and then a VBAC)-- when the risks of c-section are very, very real. Our c-section rate keeps climbing every year. The WHO says c-section rate should be between 5-10%, no more than 15%. Our national average right now is over 30% (don't have the latest number right now, but it can be found at the ICAN website), much closer to 40% in some areas. That's astounding. Too many OBs are practicing defensive medicine (taking action even when not needed, so it looks like they were being proactive) instead of looking out for their patient's (and baby's) best interests. I think some OBs are beginning to realize that women can be empowered, educated consumers.
  3. The "method" of delivery can have a lot to DO with the outcome of delivery- for both mother and baby. Risks of surgery shouldn't be taken so lightly. This woman has had three children- first was lady partsl, second was c/s, and third was lady partsl (VBAC). Now she should consent to another c/s, just because the hospital has decided that they would now prefer that? When just two years ago they "let" her VBAC?
  4. Forced entry into someone's body= rape in my book. I can easily see the connection and would feel the same way. And to say she's whining about a toy? She is calling attention to the fact that her rights as a patient, as a mother, as a human, are being taken away. All over silly hospital policy? It makes absolutely no sense. The hospital should be ashamed and she should definitely take her business elsewhere, as should other local mothers- especially since this hospital has admitted that they are not equipped to deal with emergencies that could arise. Good for her for bringing this issue to light.
  5. This is great info- thanks for posting the question and thanks to all of you who took the time to answer. It's something that I also have been concerned about.
  6. Congratulations on your acceptance into nursing school! It's completely normal to be nervous/scared/excited - your life is about to change in a big way! Yes, it will be tough, but you can do it.
  7. Congrats on passing the test!
