Hi Dudzy: I would just like to ask, while you are waiting for your 457 working visa, did you return to the Philippines or a are you waiting for it in Australia? If for example I choose to wait for the visa in Australia, how would I be able to undergo a new medical examination? To Anyone who is do doing the CAS Education modules: how long did it take you to finish one module? Were the questions difficult? Thanks!

How about accomodation? I do not know anybody in Australia...no friends no family. So I am half excited and half scared by the prospect of going there even though I do not know where to stay. To those who have finished the Part B Clinical Placement, how were you able to find accomodations? Thanks! I hope to share some good news with you guys, very soon.

New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand
Hi all (most especially to the ever helpful Aelith), I'm back. I would just like to ask: If I am going to do the Queensland CAS Part B in Australia, what visa should I apply for, the Business Short Stay (456) or a tourist visa (676). Please clarify. I am a bit confused. Thanks!

With what happened to one of our forumers, yes, we really should try to be more careful with our posts (note to self). I am very sorry that Ms Gemma felt insulted, but that was not my goal although it came across that way. I hope you accept my apology. Still wishing you the best of luck in your application to Australia. I think I will also try not to use allnurses for a while because our posts really does affect our lives, doesn't it? I realized it slowly and only just now. What happened to one of our forumers is really quite scary, and it is also a lesson learned that the Internet is not as anonymous as we would first believe. So I might also withdraw from allnurses for a few months (until everything cools down) because we don't want our opportunities to be ruined because of what we say. But I don't want to leave with a sour taste in my mouth. So Ms Gemma. Once again, my sincere apologies. To all the forumers, good luck to all of us. Phoenix, signing off...

Hey Ms Gemma, Hey there. I am not insulting anybody, including you. I am sorry if you felt that way. Branyan and Joeturtle are inspirations for me too (possible for other people as well). My sincere apologies...let us ask the moderator to edit my comment okay? And I am sorry too, because of your National Medical Exam results. I hope that you will find success in Australia. I am new to forums, and I am slowly realizing the vast potential of forums, not only to be helpful to those who use it, but also to cause damage to the lives of those who are not careful with the content of their posts. So yes, I will try to be more careful with the content of my posts. I was not trying to insult you Ms Gemma. I was only trying to inject some humor. I hope you will accept my sincere apologies.

To Aelith: Oh, okay. That is a relief. Let us hope that opportunities for RNs will not be affected by the global economic downturn. Let us hope that everything turns out well. Good luck to all of us! Anyway, I have to go back to studying. Gnyt!

To Gemma: please control yourself. You are too starstruck by Branyan hahaha. In love?! haha just joking. Sorry, I'm a bit jealous hahaha. To Branyan: Whew, I am glad that you are already on your way and you already have a job lined up. That is my biggest issue kasi: I am very anxious and afraid that after passing the exam, there might be a visa retrogression or lack of employment opportunities in Australia or whatever. I am really relieved that everything is going quite well with you. It means that it is possible for us to follow the same path as yours. I hope to pass the QNC exams also and get a job in Australia (so I can also have shrieking fans like Ms Gemma over here hahaha. Starstruck to the highest level). Guys, I am still waiting for my QNC assessment, and using the waiting time to study. I am praying hard to the Lord that QNC will accept my application (I am a second courser. Do they accept second coursers in Queensland? I hope so. I have good work experience with a well-known hospital here in Manila, so I do hope that will also be considered), but at the same time I am counting the days because as I told you before, my coworkers' papers to Canada are already moving. For my part, I turned down the offer to work in Canada because I have always dreamed of going to and working in Australia ever since I was a little boy. I might have been crazy to turn down the offer, but in that case, I followed my heart and not my mind. It really was a gamble on my part. I am doing everything that I can so that the gamble will pay off. More prayers and more study hours, so I can work in Australia someday and serve Australian patients to the best of my abilities.

Oh. My. God. I am absolutely speechless. What happened to joeturtle? Is this news true? How did msct. andrea know about this news? I sure hope that Joeturtle is doing fine right now. After all, he was the one who started this thread, and it has been helpful to us in terms of informing us about the process, what correct visa type to apply for, even the possible expenditures. If what happened to him is true, then it is very very sad. I do not know him personally, but hey, we all know the feeling of working hard for our dreams right? Joeturtle, wherever you are, we hope you are okay...

i read this in another thread here are allnurses: i have been following the posts of the new graduates in the us who are having great difficulty finding a job. many are moving states in an effort to find a job. i hoped it wouldn't happen here, but now we are seeing it. the effect of the economy downturn is starting to hit the healthcare sector here in australia. http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sto...01-662,00.html i believe that there are less permanent full time/part time positions being advertised and more casual/temp positions being advertised than ever before. has the economic downturn affected your employment opportunities?

Dolcevita: Hi, Im glad that you have already received your QNC assessment, but unfortunately, they asked you to provide some more documents. I feel for you, man. You waited 3, 4 months, only to wait even longer. I am still waiting for my assessment results. I do hope that my application and my qualifications will pass through. I hope to receive the results (hopefully positive) soon...

New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand
I am sorry for not being as optimistic as most of the people in this forum. It's just that I don't want to be disappointed anymore. With the hope, energy, and money that I am investing in Australia, I really can't afford to be disappointed anymore (financially, probably even emotionally!). So please, any Filipino-educated nurse out there who went through the Wall and managed to survive AND get an RN job in Australia, please step up and share your experiences.

New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand
Actually, what I'd like to know is if there is anyone out there who fulfills the following characterisitcs: 1. Is a Filipino and a Philippine-educated nurse, with or without work experience. 2. Who took the QLD Competency Assessment and went through the process, and passed, and is blessed enough to acquire a QLD RN license. 3. Has acquired a 457 visa (not a family-sponsored visa or whatever). As in he should have started from scratch, like most of the people in this forum. But he has now reached the other end of the line, and he has finished while most of us are onyl starting. 4. (Probably MOST important of all because this is the reason why we are going through this process in the first place) Was able to find a hospital sponsor, has already started a paying and stable RN job in Australia. I realize that (as far as this thread is concerned) all of us are focusing on how to get assessed in Queensland, what documents to submit, how to pass the QLD exams, and how to get a QLD RN license. But we also fail to ask questions regarding the employment situation for nurses in Queensland. I really did learn some lessons regarding the NCLEX. I went through the whole process, I passed it, and guess what, I am still here in the Philippines! (Like thousands of others who used to have the luxury of optimism, but are now fermenting in frustration here in the Philippines). I have also received several PMs from several people (some of whom are even in the US already) who have passed the NCLEX and already have their US RN licenses, and they still have trouble finding a job there. People always say that there is a global nursing shortage, but why is it that there are some who have trouble finding stable jobs? Both in Australia and in the US, why is it that people who followed the prescribed recipe end up with a different and less tasty dish? I don't mean to dampen anyone's optimism here, I don't want to be the raincloud in a thread that obviously bubbles with optimism and excitement for a brighter future in the sun-kissed lands of Australia (Australian Dreams or whatever), but I really want a reality check. I want to look at the real picture, not just bright promises that will only end up as promises. I think someone with the four characterisitics named above should share his stories and experiences with the rest of us in this forum. Please be honest and enlighten us what is probably in store for us. I believe that only someone who went through the same predicaments that we are going through could really help us and inform us and teach us. Are you out there?

New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand
Thanks Branyan. I just want to make sure that I understand everything so I can make the right decisions regarding my Australia application and my present job. I do not want to resign from my present job until everything is "plantsado" as we call in the Philippines ("ironed out" in English?) Have you already found a job in Australia and started working? Anyway, I am still waiting for my QNC assessment hehehe, thinking too much into the future. Need to pass the Part A first!

MR KOWALSKA: It's me again. Your posts are very helpful and informative. Thank you very much. But I do have several questions more. 1. After passing the Part B, how long will it take before I get my QLD License so I can look for an RN job? If I get my QLD license, can I start working using a 456 visa while waiting for my 457 visa to push through, or do I have to wait for the 457, either in Australia or in the Philippines? 2. Do you have your QLD license already? Where do you work, if it's okay for me to ask. Just interested. Was wondering if you had a hard time looking for an employer who will sponsor you. Or you are Australian so you do not need any sponsor? Are you Filipino? 3. From start (lodging of QNC application) to finish (getting an RN job in Queensland and working), how long did the whole process take you? Also, how many months did you have to wait for QLD's assessment before you were able to take the Part A exam? I think that would be all for now. AGain, thanks for all you info. You have been very very helpful to all of us... DOLCEVITARN: What is the exact date did QNC receive your application in December? I emailed them and they said that they are already assessing applications from December 1, 2008, so your assessment is probably near. Tell us naman if and when you receive your assessment results ha? Because my application follows yours by only a few weeks. When you receive yours, Id probably (hopefully) receive mine after a few weeks too.

We have lost touch around a month ago...maybe she died of starvation. Joke. Last time we talked, she wanted to go back to the Philippines for the meantime because the standard of living is a bit expensive. Yes, she is alrerady an experienced Delivery and Labor Room Nurse. It is a wonder why she had difficulties finding a job. That is why I am a bit anxious and I want to know the employment opportunities because we are investing huge amount of effort and hope (not to mention money) into getting our QLD RN licenses, only to discover that the future might not be as bright as originally promised...

Competency Assessment Service - Queensland, Australia
I had a friend who was able to get her QLD license, but she was unemployed in Queensland for three months because she had a hard time looking for a hospital who will sponsor her and her 457 visa processing took a long time. Although it is good that after passing the clinicals, we are privileged to stay longer in Australia longer and we do not have to return to the Philippines. But there are also others who had trouble finding hospital sponsors, so they languished in unemployment for several months with only a limited amount of money in their pockets...

Mr Kowalska, Thank you so much for the info regarding the visas. Not only did it enlighten me, it also inspired me and encouraged me to prepare harder for the exams because good things are waiting once I pass those exams and I get my QLD license. The 457 visa needs a sponsor, right? I have another question: are there many hospitals in QLD right now that offers sponsorships to foreign nurses? Also, how long does a 457 visa get processed? Thanks!

Mr KOWALSKA: I plan on applying for a 456 visa when it is time for me to do the Part B. How do I apply for it and how much does this interim visa cost? Most of all, where do I apply for it? Can I do it by internet or do I have to pass the papers personally? Please enlighten us. Also, what type of interim permit can I apply for? You know, the number (like 456, 656, 175 etc) DOLCEVITARN: Have you received your QNC assessment? When do you plan on taking the Part A?
