Washington Hospital Center
Hello everyone I recently received a job offer from Washington Hospital Center and thinking of moving to DC for practice. I'm an ER nurse and planning to work in ER and trauma center while in DC. Just wondering if anyone here actually work in the hospital(not necessary in ER) and can give a better picture about the hospital, please. Any info appreciated. Cheers ak

CGFNS - University Transcripts
Jen I recently finished the process of CGFNS so I might able to answer your question. In my experience, you would be better off if you call them ahead of time and see if there's any issue with your paper work process rather than waiting for them to review things. CGFNS only initiate the process when they receive the whole paper work, as you may know. And once they have them all, it usually takes 4 weeks the get things started. I would call and talk to them, like I did couple of times during my my CGFNS process and in my experience they were very helpful. Hope this helps.

Continuing Education for Nurses
That's correct. I don't mind getting an ACLS course online. I just need to know the course outline in order to make decision.

Continuing Education for Nurses
Sure I would be willing to take that although without credits. How much the course usually cost and what's the time frame if it happens?

Continuing Education for Nurses
Well I work in ER so ACLs and cardiac will be more relevant.

Continuing Education for Nurses
Hello all This is going to be my first time that I need to take continuing education for my license in US and I was wondering if anyone knows a good online pharmacology program out there for nurses. I've found a couple but would like to hear from others as well. Also, I'm open to other CEs as well. Thanks in advance.

Dear friends One more time please use proper grammar and spelling. Think of it like we are not the only people who read these contents and what others think about their future nurses are not even able to spell! I'm just hoping that our charting won't be like this. Otherwise, we'll be in a real trouble.

I'm sorry to hear you couldn't pass this time. The question you ask is very specific and it really depends on multiple factors. If you thought the exam went well and despite that you were not successful, then something is not right there. Look at your mark under each specific categories that were sent to you. I would say if you failed by couple of marks you MIGHT want to consider writing the exam in Oct. If the gab is bigger than that, you really need to go back and work on subjects you feel you're not comfortable with them as well as working on your test taking skill which is huge when writing CRNE. If you're working, meantime, you probably need to give yourself more time to get prepared. I know you're down right now but stay positive. Think of what you've done wrong and how you improve it next time. And that's why you get chance to write exam like this three two/three times, right? To learn from your mistakes and improve yourself. Look at it as you're going to learn more and you will make it. I know a lot of people how passed in their second try.

Here you go PatW This is another way to look at it. It may works for some but not others so you know which approach works better for you with practice. All I can say is no matter what approach you take, it's important to manage your time and hopefully finish the exam. I've seen many people who only needed couple marks to pass while not being able to answer last 10-12 questions. All of you who passed, congratulation. Remember to leave you comments, tips, and what you think helped you to be successful for your future colleagues here. Good luck and practice safely. And those who have not been successful this time, don't lose faith and stick around. There are plenty of people here who love to help.

I'm in BC and I had a classmate who wasn't successful in CRNE last year and worked with her temporary licence until the next exam with no problem. I've also read somewhere that it might be different from province to province.

PatW There was a whole discussion sometimes earlier this year about how we should approach the CRNE. I would say unless you are very very confident of yourself, it's better to start your exam from case studies to multiple choices and I have two simple reasons for that. First that the number of questions you'll get under ONE case study is greater than one single multiple choice. That means if by any chance by the end of the exam, you miss one case study, you'll probably miss lose at least two marks because there's at least two question under one case. Second, is that you've already experienced sitting in CRNE and know how long is the exam. And that we all get tired at some point and lose focus. So imagine you're sitting there and trying to figure out what those long case studies telling you by the end of your fourth hour. Again everyone is different and may think that's a better way to approach it.

ACLS ONLINE?
Hello everyone So is it fair to say taking ACLS and PALS in class is safer way to go with? I'm also trying to get those courses but feeling a bit shaky doing them online although it's much easier.

Little Victoria Just for clarification you mean by short answer is multiple choices, right? Exam format was changed last last year to only multiple choices.

Relax everyone and don't rely on the word of the mouth. Just a quick note for 27400 that your exam result is nothing to do with your employment. You absolutely CAN apply if there's an opportunity and you'll be practicing as a New Graduate. You might think you want to hold applying for a job just in case... (which I won't even go there) that's different story. Be patient and hold strong people. You will be fine.

How was the exam, guys? How did you do?

Just a reminder that this thread is designated for CRNE exam. I try to answer your question here tahitianmoon but there are lots of valuable threads in allnurses and you can get lots of good information from there. The NCLEX is a computer based exam. The lowest number of the questions one get is 75 and the highest is 265. This is how they rest you. Imagine a passing level of difficulty line in the exam. The very first question you'll get in NCLXE is on that line. If you get the 1st question right, the second question you get will be slightly harder than fist one and again above the imaginary line. If you get the first question wrong you will be under that line and if you get the second question wrong again you'll get further away from that line. Something that is called "digging a hole". So the least number of questions are 75 as I said earlier. 20 of them ( I think it was 20) won't be counted towards your mark, like what we have in CRNE(with different number though). You won't know which questions they are though. If you end your 75 questions let's say in an hour and you are still above that line, the computer will be shut done automatically and the game is done. If not, means you're under that line and you need to give more correct answer to get there and pass. So you can sit in the exam for 6 hours or you can finish it in an hour or so. My experience of NCLEX is that you will cover more area in nursing. Lots of information to know. You need to know your meds, lab values, infection control is huge in Nclex and you need to know the diseases. You, however, have access to more resources to prepare yourself (from Kaplan to lippincott to Hurst to Saunders and etc.) And the questions are fairly said in the same fashion. Hope this helps.

alana7 I can't tell you that I thought I would definitely fail but well I left the exam with sort of confusion. What I can tell you, however, was that few of my classmates outside got together and crying after the exam. They all passed as far as I know. So, it's a mixed feeling.

BLS or ACLS new Grad
Hi everyone So I went through all of the posts here and didn't get the answer to my question. I noticed there are a lot of places in States that they offer ACLS as on online course. Anyone took this online courses or encountered any problem when applying for a job with these certifications? Just wondering because in Canada we usually need to attend a two days practicum top of taking all the theories. Any comment appreciated. Cheers

bewise First thing first that, you only need to get (well approx.) 120/180 questions. Still a bit early to think you failed the test There's 5 weeks left to get the results! A lot of people leave the exam thinking they failed but they make it through. So hang on there. This is the thing with CRNE. If you think about it's not a real hard exam. It's just the way they ask the question and the way you need to manage your time that makes it hard. And yes it is stressful when you hit the wall and don't know the content or get two correct answers to a question. So as joanna73 mentioned here multiple times, you really really need to know your stuff because you'll be lucky to have time and review your answers. Anyway, hang on there and wait! Thanks for sharing.
