Thomas Jefferson FACT Program
I hear ya! I figure things will start coming together as we get more in to the hands on application of what we are reading about. Boy is it a lot of reading. I am glad to hear that others are feeling overwhelmed too. I hope everyone is having a relaxing and productive holiday weekend.

I hear you! I was stressing about the 6-8 week wait for fingerprinting, too, 'cause I just got mine done last wednesday. I shouldn't have been because the report came in the mail today. Thanks for the heads up about that.:yeah:I can't believe that classes start tomorrow! See you there.

I was being sarcastic about the federal loans. I guess it doesn't quite come through on the post. Anyway, thanks for the info. So, you aren't going with Jefferson lenders, how did you decide?

Woah, that is more "aid" than I expected. I haven't filled out the MPN yet. I was told they can determine the award without it but cannot disburse it until the MPN is complete. I am still overwhelmed and don't know which company to go with. Do you mind if I ask which one you chose? Thanks, E

Question about where people are finding places to live. I am moving to philly from Seattle and I am wondering where to look for apartments, other than Craigslist. I could use any advice that you can give about finding a place to live. Thanks everyone.

I was concerned about the job market too, but when I looked in rural areas they are still really hurting for nurses. I figure that I can sacrifice a year or two to living in the sticks to get experience for the jobs in the city. Also I talked to a current faculty member in another program and she recommended (if you are doing FNP route) to complete your last clinical rotation at a place where you would like to work. She said that is how most of her students find a job. It helps get a foot in the door. I am going to hope that is the case when we graduate. You never know what will happen since it is still a ways away. : )

Thomas Jefferson FACT Program
Hi All , I am starting to get very excite to start school. I, too, am unsure that I will be able to attend the accepted students day since I am currently in Seattle. I started at Facebook group just so we could get to know each other before we all gather in Philly. If anyone is interested just search for Jefferson FACT. It would be fun to put names with faces. I am excited to meet all of you. -Emily

Johns Hopkins BSN/MSN 2009 Applicants!
Hi Everyone, I am trying to figure out what to do about tuition at JHU. I am really drawn to the program, but the amount of debt is a bit scary. How are the rest of you dealing with it? I have also been accepted to a program that charges half of the tuition. I don't think it is a bad school, but I am really intrested in Hopkins. Do I just need to suck it up? Thanks! e:uhoh3:

Glad to hear your experience was a good one. I can see why it would be a hard decision to make. Its nice to have choices. Good luck with figuring it out. I am trying to do my own weighing and deciding. : )

Johns Hopkins BSN/MSN 2009 Applicants!
I was just wondering... I was accepted to U of Rochester too. Was your interview very strange? I felt like I was listening to an commercial for nursing and the nursing school. They only asked me two questions ( about undergrad GPA and major) and then told me it shouldn't be a problem. It totally weirded me out. Hopefully i was the only one who thought it was strange. I am interested to hear about your experience with U or Rochester. Unfortunately I don't know much about the school; I didn't visit. Good luck with your decision. : )

Johns Hopkins BSN/MSN 2009 Applicants!
I hope I didn't offend anyone type A people are very nice and usually good study buddies. I too am competitive with myself. I am excited to be at a high caliber school where I will be really pushed. I was figuring that with JHU's dedication to diversity that the student population would be diverse as well. I am encouraged to hear that others are thinking about it as well. : ) I am so excited by the opportunity to got to Hopkins. Congrats to us all!

Johns Hopkins BSN/MSN 2009 Applicants!
Does anyone know if Hopkins is a super type A competitive program, or are people chill and helpful? I am trying to decide between Hopkins and Jefferson. I don' t think there really is any question for me but my mom did bring up an interesting point about the types of students that may be drawn to this school. Does anyone have an answer for me? I am super laid back and I am wondering if anyone else who is going will be too? Thanks!

Johns Hopkins BSN/MSN 2009 Applicants!
Hi There alrees, I am from Seattle and I did find out yesterday, they called around 1pm PST. I was suprised to get in because I am not a 5 star candidate in every catergory, but I did serve in the Peace Corps and I think that must have had some influence. I had my interview just a few weeks after I submitted my application. My undergraduate gpa was just a paltry 3.0 (my college didn't factor in credits from abroad. I spent a semester in Kenya). Since graduation, I have been working in medical research for 5 years (with a 2.5 year break for the PC). I also volunteered at the county burn ICU for a year and a half, which was a great experience and helped solidify my interest in nursing. I really gained respect for the knowledge and expertise of the nurses in that setting. I hope that helps somewhat, although I don't expect that you will want to go to the peace corps just to get in to nursing school. This is my second time around on applications too. Last year I applied to schools here in Seattle and didn't have luck with any of those. I wish you luck with the next time around. :)

Should I be concerned if I haven't heard anything from Niki? I emailed her earlier this week and still haven't heard anything except what you guys have posted here. I really want to get an idea of how much money we need to spend on supplies and what is required so I can start collecting some of that stuff now, while I have time to shop around. Has anyone seen a list or anything?

Congrats on being a student that fits in to both programs. : ) I am going to email Niki today and she if she can share any information about what we might need to start collecting for school. I will let you know if I find out anything.

Hey Fellow TJUers. I haven't heard anything either. I am getting a bit anxious because may is coming up soon. I did find the 2008-09 nursing handbook on the website which has some useful information in it. I keep checking my jeffmail in the hopes that something has shown up. What programs have you been excepted to?

Anyone applying to Yale GEPN program for Fall 2009?
It is always a good plan to live day to day. Although it does get difficult when we are all waiting for such exciting and potentially life changing news. What are you studying now? I am amazed by the folks that are still working on degrees that want to head straight in to an accelerated nursing program. It makes sense, but I was just glad to be done with school when I finished my undergrad degree. Good for you, knowing what you want to do. I too applied to the FNP concentration at Yale. I just glanced at the National Health Service Corps, at this point I want to have more control over where I live. I wonder if they are flexible about location...... Seattle is great! I am sad to be leaving, but my family really is never going to leave New England and I want to be near them. So far the winter here has been very mild and dry ( very unSeattle-like). I am not sure how I am going to readjust to east coast winters, but I am looking forward seeing snow this time next year. Seattle is an awsome city full of young people with interesting ideas and very progressive on environmental issues. It has been a great environment to spend some time in. I would recommend it, if you can live without too much sun for 6 months of the year. That is what really gets to you, its not the rain so much just the dark, gray sky. Wow, that is exciting about the interview letters. I too read the entire thread from last year, and it seemed like they were notified later than that. I would love to have more time to figure out the trip vs. phone interview and make plans for travel. Wishing us all patience until then!

Anyone applying to Yale GEPN program for Fall 2009?
Hey Meredith09. Great last minute decision, must have taken a lot of work to get things together. :yeah:Good job! I am set on going to school this year and I was prepared to apply to 9 schools, but luck had it and I was accepted by Thomas Jefferson University in Philly. It takes a bit of pressure off because I know that there is somewhere to go to school. I am really hoping for Yale though. It just seems like people are really positive about the program and the timing really fits better with my life not to mention it will be closer to my family (but really any of the schools are closer than Seattle, where I am now). I have to say I am daunted by the amount of money it will cost. I am hoping to hear from a grad whether or not they think it was worth it. Have you considered price at all? Do you have any thoughts about taking on that much debt? I do look at this as an investment, it is just a huge amount of money. I am counting the days until we hear about interviews. At least by then we will have more information.:nuke:

Anyone applying to Yale GEPN program for Fall 2009?
I am very nervous too. I applied to the FNP program. I am set on going to school this year so I have a few other applications out there. I actually have been accepted at Thomas Jefferson U in Philly, but the Yale schedule fits so much better with my life. I am eager to hear about an interview. I too am worried that my undergraduate GPA isn't high enough. Not much I can do about that now, I can only hope that they see the improvement in my current course work. So are most people only applying to Yale?

Thomas Jefferson FACT Program
Hi I was just starting to wonder where all the people that were applying to Jefferson went. I had my interview at Jefferson last week. It was really relaxed and chill. She only asked me 4 questions. She wanted to hear about my experiences since I graduated from undergrad and what had I gained from those things that would help me prepare for Nursing. Then she asked the standard question about why you picked this particular school. Finally she wanted to know what I thought my role in the clinical setting would be. Interesting question, I think it was just to make sure that I had some idea of how the training would go. So that was basically the interview. She then let me ask as many questions as I wanted. I was nervous, until the end of the interview because she basically told me that I should expect to get an email offering admission later that day. I don't know if anyone else has had this experience, but I seem to remember someone saying something similar. Good luck. Maybe I will see you in May :)

Accelerated nursing programs in Fall 2009
Hi everyone! I have applied to Yale, Johns Hopkins, Uof Rochester, and Jefferson U all for Family NP. To answer your question about application receipt at JHU. I received an email informing me that they had received my application, and then another email to let me know they needed one more piece of documentation from me. If you didn't hear anything you might want to call. Just a quick note on my name, I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Madagascar and it means student in Malagasy. I hope to be a nursing student soon! Good luck to everyone. I have an interview today with Jefferson. I am a little nervous! : )
