  1. Quantity to be administered is the same as Ordered dose..right?
  2. Uou are only 21.. dont know how you cant think 20 years ahead of you..You have a lot to learn!
  3. @Jodeface...Congrats to your offer at parkland. I also dont know what 'helpful advisor' is talking about but he sounds very very angry at a place that is recognized around the world as the biggest level 2 trauma in US.wish you all the best at you start your career!
  4. @ Advisor.. I did my interview on Monday and I am excited to become part of parkland organization. I toured the facility and spoke to few nurses who said nothing but good about parkland as an employer. i did ask them about the rumours and they told me there are many many many rumours out there that a good percentage of them are not true and those that are true, they know what happened and they said its not parkland faults. For example, they just get too many admits at ER such that its possible for someone to collapse waiting at ER..people who come to parkland are mostly poor hispanic and african american who dodnt have insurance, meaning they dont get check ups regularly, meaning they wait too long to seek medical sevice... I personally saw patients with IVs outside parkland smoking ciggarete and eating unhealthy foods, maybe even smoking weed..would this be parkland problem?? parkland is the largest trauma hospital in US and they are making progress by building another facility....its mostly funded by taxpayers (60%) money where most of the patients that come to parkland do not even have jobs...its even hard to know their prior mkedical history since the majority of them dont go for check ups... For the few reasons above, I strongly suggest that you look that whole picture rather than looking at a few sources that have duplicate information from other sources...Your arguments suggest that you are bitter with parkland, the only reason being that you were fired from parkland. The interviewer has 15 years of experience and admitted he loves parkland more than any of the 5 previous hospitals some magnet that he has worked. He is 6 months old at parkland and loves. It is true that a good number of people were transfered or let go due to their incompetence but the hospital is making a major comeback! I cant wait to start!!
  5. definately your cover letter is too long..I didnt even finish reading it, now imagine a recruiter who has alot of applications..I wish you all the best..
  6. It has to be rumors because I spoke with 8 people that work at parklands..is it a coincidence that all those people are lying??all those sources you have named are reporting things not the way they are but the way they want things to be...They are basically putting pressure on parklands..one of those sources actually said parkland is closing down...how can that be when they are building a brand new parkland?????
  7. Thanks for your advice. I have spoken to 9 people now including you.. the other 8 people have worked there for at least 5 years and recommended that I take the position right away and advised me to ignore all the rumors out there....it turns out to be 90% favor for parkland...though not 100%, i would take 90% over 10% and take the job...My understanding is that no organization is 100% perfect..there will always be complaints no matter how perfect you try to be...Employees have different views and perception even though working for the same company....I respect yours but it fell short. Thanks!!
  8. I am not in denial...However I think you must have been fired from Parkland, or you have tried to apply but they have never called you..I was there on friday and i spoke to Human resources about the medicare/medicaid funding and she told me it was in danger but never cut off, everything is back to normal...I have spoken to 5 people since friday who have been there for years and they told me to take the position right away without hesitate...they said they are overstuffed, nurse to pt ratio is very good, benefits are the best probably in the United States...anyway, I am meeting the unit manager of wednesday and that should sum up all this debate.... Every company has its ups and downs...they have had there share I believe..things will get better!
  9. Credit: WFAA-TV Associated Press Posted on September 10, 2011 at 1:28 AM The date was pushed back. an agreement was made to have external consultants come to parkland to help with the issues... DALLAS (AP) — Officials with a Dallas hospital said Friday they will enter into an agreement with a federal agency to avert the loss of millions of dollars in Medicare funding that had been at risk because of problems at the facility. Parkland Memorial Hospital was told by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in a letter Friday that its Medicare agreement would end Sept. 30 "because of deficiencies that represent an immediate and serious threat to patient health and safety." An inspection in July of the hospital by CMS found violations in such areas as infection control and emergency care. The inspection was triggered by the death of a patient in February in the psychiatric emergency room. A new report released Friday by CMS found that Parkland had corrected its infection-control problems, but that patients still faced "immediate jeopardy" in the emergency room. However, the agency also told the hospital that it could prevent the funding loss if it entered into a "systems improvement agreement," in which the hospital would accept CMS-approved outside consultants who would work with Parkland to implement corrective actions. Hospitals must be Medicare-certified to get Medicaid funding, so terminating Medicare would mean the loss of Medicaid. The loss of Medicare and Medicaid would have been a deadly blow for the hospital. Parkland officials have said that Medicare and Medicaid make up nearly 50 percent of the hospital's funding. In a statement, the hospital said entering into the agreement with CMS will give it "the opportunity to continue to operate fully and to address the problems identified in the recent CMS survey." The agreement will be finalized by Sept. 30. "We are grateful for this opportunity to work with an outside expert to address the problems identified by CMS. This allows Parkland and CMS to be jointly engaged in an aggressive improvement process," said John Jay Shannon, Parkland's executive vice president and chief medical officer. "We are committed to successfully meeting CMS expectations and to continually serving the people of Dallas County. I can guarantee we will be a stronger, more capable, safer hospital system." Parkland, a regional center for burns and trauma, is also the main teaching hospital for the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
  10. I don't think they lost Medicare/Medicaid..I think they were in danger of loosing it but they managed to escape. Thanks anyway for the reply..
  11. Hello..Anyone working at parkland or has worked there..How much do they start RN1 pay? What is the shift differential at night? weekend? How is there Insurance? Do you like it overall? Please help me with this questions..Thanks
  12. JMomBaby is misleading you..You are a new graduate and at thos time what you care about is getting a job,,asking all those questions she is telling you to ask might take you years to land a job..the economy is soo bad to even think about being picky on the kind of company you want to work for..The most important thiing right now is to get experience in any hospital, LTAC with med surge or ICU or traditional hospital is perfectly fine or even a rehab... Stay away from nursing home
  13. I think you are misguided unless we are talking about 2 different LTC's..I have worked in Long Term Acute care (specialty hospital for 5 months now here at DFW..I just got a PRN at Baylor starting at 35/hr not including $ 11 night differential and $10 weekend differential....What i have learnt the last 5 months is something that will take years to learn in a big hospital especially med surg unit....I have worked with extremely critically ill patients that you will never see in a med surg unit..pts with Vents, trachs, G-tubes, T-tubes, Rectal tubes, foleys, Picc lines, Jagular lines, all kinds of ostomies, pts with heart transplants, etc...Therefore straight out of school, LTAC will be the best place to start to my opinion..
  14. Whoeve told you this probably meant to say that once you work in a long term care, you have a better chance of getting a job than starting your carrer working in a traditional hospital...LTAC is where all the experience and stress is and that is why they pay big bucks...once you work in LTAC...you endure the experience and stress such that working in a traditional hospital would be a piece of cake...i mean dealing with peg tubes, picc lines, rectal tubes, foleys, t-tubes, vents, trachs, ng tubes etc..
