  1. We have identified a problem in which residents call lights are not being answered in a reasonable amount of time. Do any of you use "walkie talkies" or other products to assist in your faciility? We are looking at trying walkie talkies but would like to hear what others have tried and whether they worked or didn't worked. What brand worked or those that did not work? Thanks
  2. Forgive me if my question seems ignornant however new in the LTC area- if the fecal impaction required an enema however the resident was transferred to the hospital with the dx of fecal impaction among other dx. The impaction was relieved with an enema -do you need to self report to the state? Some nurses are saying "we need to report to DIA" others are saying "no' - we spent hours trying to look up the answer but could not find it.
  3. If a fecal impaction is considered a "sentinel event" does that mean you have to self report?

  5. Capecod I would really appreciate your form. I have some serious work to do and again like I said I am not sure where to start. Thanks
  6. I am new in my position as DON. We should be having a survey in the next 2-3 months and I am trying to prioritize what I should be reviewing. Does anyone have a checklist on what I should be reviewing in the residents charts? The facility I am at has had "poor survey results" in the past and documentation was a problem. Or does anyone know of a website that can help guide me and let me know where I should I start. Thanks for any guidance.
  7. please also send me your worksheet Thanks
  8. I'm new in my DON position. I have not been involved in LTC for over 10 years and I am amazed at some of the changes. For everyone I'm sure it is a challenge but I have inherited some major issues. Mostly "families who have been extremely upset over the care thier residents have recieved in the past." I am trying to build thier trust but they are very leery and can't really let go of problems they have experienced in the past. So far I am still uncertain of my role - apparently past DON's have spent thier days in thier office with the door closed or maybe not even there. I am so busy monitoring situations out on the floor that I am there for 10-12 hours a day as I can't get my own work done. Hopefully with patience and guidance I can help to make some changes. Overall though - I still enjoy going to work :nuke: Only one month under my belt.
