Annoyed!....When did accelerated BSN programs come about?
This is a random question, that I am intrested in knowing. Have accelerated BSN nursing programs always existed, the one for career changers? Or have the just recently(say in the past 10 yrs) come about? And if so did they come about due to the nursing shortage. I started nursing school in 2002, but had never really heard of them until around 2005-2006. And now they seem to be all over the place. It really annoys me, they say in less than 1 year you can become a RN. I went to an Associate degree program had two years of Nursing. And a year and half of pre req, so basically I was in school full time for 4 years for my associate degree in nursing. At first this didn't bother me b/c I started pre reqs the fall after i graduated HS, and graduated with my ADN when I was only 22. But why b/c someone has a BA in another field does it take them less time to get their BSN, when what they did before has nothing to do with nursing. I understand the pre req credits go towards the degree, but nursing? Some say become a nurse in 1 yr, I had 2 years of clinical. Do they t put in the same amount of clinical hours. And because they get a BSN they are looked as begin more educated than someone with an adn. I guess thats my fault, I should of went to a 4yr school from the begining, I would of graduated the same time but with a BSN instead. It p*sses me off. The ones that I have encountered,... I don't even think really like nursing at all, they just thought the pay was good and liked fllexable hours, which to me makes a bad nurse.

nursingg
I was a little scared too at first b/c all throughout high school, I did not put a lot of time, focus or effort into my school work. As I was to busy with my socail life, friends, partying etc. Because of that everyone said that I would never be able to get through or pass nursing school. But I did, I graduated from nursing school in 2004 . It was a lot of hard work, I had to put a lot of time and effort into school and studying. But to me it was all worth it. I always knew from a young age, that I wanted to be a nurse. And it is something that I am very passionate about. Two of my friends (both of who did a lot better than me all throughout HS) went to nursing school as well. One actually went to nursing school with me, and neither one of them was able to pass, and I was. So I guess the point I am trying to make is, if being a nurse is something you can see yourself doing try it. You will never know unless you try!! I have always been AWFUL at math and I do mean AWFUL . When it came time to do drug dosage calculations I was soooo nervous, but to my surprise I did fine. It is pretty basic, you learn the conversions & equations to use, plug the numbers in and then just use your calculator. Trust me if I can do it anyone can!!!! Math is a part of nursing but not a major factor at all. The math in Chemistry is similiar, you learn the conversions and equations to use, it's not like your taking a math class. Although you do need to take a math class as a pre-req before you start a nursing program. You need to take both A&P 1 & 2, I would not say it is extremely hard, but it is a lot of work and there is a lot to learn. I did well in A&P, I was also very intrested in learning it. Plus it something you need to learn for nursing. If you have good study habits you will be fine!! GOOD LUCK:D

RN to BSN online @ UMASS Boston
Has anyone taken or currently taking the RN to BSN online program at Umass Boston? And if so how has it been? I am very interested in this program, as I will be able to transfer a lot of credits from my previous ADN program. I am intrested in how many hours a week you spend doing class work? How would you rate the level of difficulty? I am also a little worried with my time management w/ work and school. Feedback from anyone currently enrolled, or any tips would be greatly appreciated. THANKS I have a nutrition class from my ADN program that transfers, planning to take statistics before I am actually enrolled in the program, and thinking about taking the NLN for Pharm. And have other pre reqs from my ADN that fufill the Umass electives required for graduation.

Cheaters in my med/surg class
In the Nursing Program I attended, they made if perfectly clear that if you were caught cheating you would be punished to the fullest, kicked out of the program and never be allowed back into their nursing program or even be allowed back into the college. They also warned us about buying papers online, when it came time for the research papers and projects we had to do. I am curious to know how is it even possible for them to cheat? My instructors said they changed the tests questions and answers semester. They would also give different test booklets to each row so no one could cheat off the peson beside them. No phones or PDAs were allowed, and they would ocasionally walk up and down they aisles, while we took are test.......Anyways, forget about them!!!! Focus on yourself. I know it is frustrating, because you work so hard and put so much time into studying. But in the end you will be the one to suceed, and deserve it. They will not suceed and don't deserve too. When it comes down to taking the NCLEX they will not be able to cheat and will not pass! And you will!!
- Anyone Up For Random FACT THROWING??

For RN's) How much do you take home after taxes????
Is that the only reason you want to get into nursing, because you think you will be making good money? If you are really passionate about becoming a nurse the $ should not matter.

Question about Tufts Medical Center
Hi, I have some questions about Tufts New England Medical Center. I am a new grad and would love to work there. And I am just trying to find some information about the different floors and the nurses, physicans that work there. Do they have a general surgical floor and if so what is it like? Would it be a good floor for a new grad to work on? Any other comments/ suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!!!! :nuke:
