I submitted my application in march.. didnt hear anything .. called them in june.. they said it hadn't even begun to be processed yet.. but that they would move it along... then i was told i needed to get a letter from my high school stating I was taught and assessed in english.. and then submit an outline of all my coursework.. and i was approved.. the first week of august. Hope this helps. Where are you looking to work in Oz?

  3. Good to hear.. what type of ward did they place you in? I arrived in australia about 2 weeks ago.. currently trying to find a job.. i was offered a job through an agency over here healthstaff recruitment.. but for some reason its taking a long time for them to issue me a letter of offer.. i guess all the paperwork is taking longer then i expected. im eager to start working. .making money.. and see what australia has to offer.. so is it really that different over here?
  4. @US2oz.. how is it over there? Were you able to find a job?

  11. @US2oz.. dont worry about your visa.. as long as you got all your blood taken.. the medical exam you should hear within the next couple weeks.. after i had the medical part done, my visa was granted within i think it was 1-2 weeks.. such a quick and easy process it was! Yeah i emailed her today.. she told me she expects to email me next week with the outcome of my assessment.. i hope that outcome is YES approval.. if its not i think my head might explode! Good luck with everything and your visa.. we may be on the same flight together at this rate! Haha keep me posted.
  12. @US2Oz.. dont know if you're reading this anymore .. but im getting really anxious my registration officer told me last tuesday that she got my last piece of information and was hoping to assess and reply to me as soon as possible.. now a week later.. i don't know what to do.. if i should email her agin.. or if thats just gonna annoy her.. this thing is going on 4 1/2 months.. i just want to know already!
  13. Ok thanks good to know! I guess ill find out more soon enough. So annoying just talked to my case manager on tuesday (wed oz time) she said she FINALLy received the last document she needed (transcript of my clinical courses) on tuesday.. and she would assess them and reply to me as soon as possible.. Been waiting about 4 months... This is Crazzzy!
  14. what kind of shoes do nurses wear? here i wear sneakers.. or crocs.. really easy to get around in and when your working fast!
  15. hi emi.. i am in the process of obtaining my AHPRA registration.. which is the first thing you should do as this process takes several months and tedious hours. http://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/... go to internationally qualified nursing and midwifery.. there you'll find all your information and all the crazy amounts of paperwork they want from you. im a us nurse with 2 1/2 yrs experience.. hoping to move by september.. Sounds like you have a great experience! ANy other questions let me know.
  16. i guess you are lucky then! i am not that close with my manager because i only see her for like one hour each morning! Shes kinda stand offish.. so i havent really let her in to what my plans are because i felt like it just wasnt in my best interest.. until had everything set. Now that Im getting close to getting approved... hopefully... i am probably going to have to have the talk with her soon and im just getting a little nervous about it now!
  17. @neeke.. I'm a USA nurse planning to move to oz as well. Did you buy a ticket yet to move? DO you know if there is an option to buy an open ended ticket because im not sure when i will be returning. How are you finding the job search... i havent started because im still waiting on AHPRA. THey just requested a couple more documents from me. Was your registration process fairly easy? sorry i ask so many questions its nice to find someone whos going through the same thing!
  18. so any advice on how to give notice ? Ive never had to really have this conversation before, so any pointers I would appreciate!
  19. Haha sorry am looking more towards the sydney area.. but i plan on making a visit to queensland!
  20. I understand it may not be easy that was probably a poor choice of words but I gave been on contact with recruiters and they have told me that with my experience I will be able to secure a job quickly as there are alot of vacancies
  21. Thank you very much for your reply it did help! Yes I have the working/holiday visa as well.. dont worry that was the easiest part.. it prettty much took like 3 weeks to process.. and then you get an email saying you have the visa! (silly me thought that would be the long part!) I feel like you and will be moving at the same time (fingers crossed) I've heard its pretty easy to get a job once your there since they have a shortage and everything.. and yeah i have the same idea as you.. once im there hopefully i can find a hospital that likes me and can sponsor me. Just any advice on what your going to say to your manager? I'm not quite sure how to phrase it.. and to ask for a letter of recommendations and what not. Thanks for the reply! :)
  22. @us2oz.. just wondering .. about how soon after ahpra requested those extra documents from you (letter from high school, university etc) how fast did yo get approved after wards? i am hoping to move by august/september, and i have just sent ahpra the last piece of paperwork they need last week.. so im just wondering how much longer did you have to wait after that was done.
  23. ok this is what it says on the AHPRA website ... to further prove my point. All applicants must be able to demonstrate English language skills at IELTS academic level 7 or the equivalent, and the Board may require this in a number of ways. An internationally qualified applicant or an applicant who did not undertake and complete their secondary education to the requisite level required for entry into a nursing or midwifery program, taught and assessed in English must demonstrate that they have the necessary English language skills for registration purposes by achieving the required minimum score in each component of the IELTS academic module, OET or specified alternatives (see 'Definitions', below).Test results will generally need to be obtained within two years prior to applying for registration. The Board may grant an exemption in specified circumstances. If You did NOT complete your secondary education in ENGlish.. then you have to IELTS test.. FROM AHPRA Wesbite itself... I am not crazy.. and it is not just my registration officer. I completed my secondary education in English.. and proved that with a letter.. as did a few other US nurses I have talked to who are nurses in Australia.. on this thread! So i really hope this helps with all the confusion.. and everybody pretty much discounting what I'm saying.
  24. i wasn't being disrespectful.. just didn't appreciate you completely disregarding my statement . i apologize if i offended you.
  25. to clarify.. i am from the US. Just wanted to set the record straight for any future applicants from the US :)
