So, I am deciding on whether or not to apply to the St. Vincents nursing program. I know I will have to test out of A&P and Micro as I have already taken all of them. I lookd online and could only find old posts about the testing process. I noticed that St. Vincents started offering Review classes for each subject. I was wondering if anyone has taken then- and then passed the exam. I'm assuming the review classes are helpful- I was just wondering if people found it easier to just take the class. Any advice?

Personally, I think that the CC's like having as many people apply as possible. They don't ever mind releasing how many people applied to each program- just what their stats are... makes you wonder. I am waitlisted again this year (3rd time in a row) for Gateway. I'm going to Southern, I figure I could've finished my Bachelors Degree in the time I've spent waiting for Gateway AND graduated with a BSN. Good Luck to all who have been selected for the program! I'm trying not to give up, its just such a downer to be waitlisted AGAIN... I was really hoping THIS was the year. I'm going to look into finishing my bachelors degree in anything, and then maybe pursuing a ursing degree through the Yale program. Also looking into the BHSN program. I'm just so disappointed.

Well, I checked this morning (Gateway) and I am waitlisted. It says I will, once again, be getting a waitlist letter this week. My last name begins with "O". This is the third waitlisted letter I've received. I'm done.

Well, I've been waitlisted twice already at Gateway CC. If I get waitlisted again, I'm going to try and attend Southern or another 4 year institution. I had finished all of my non-nursing clinical classes last year and have nothing else to take at this point... seems like a waste of time to sit around if I'm waitlisted again. I could've finished my 4 year degree already at Southern, had I been smart about this. I already have an associates degree in Biology/Chemistry. The waitlist is so annoying. I had decent grades, a stellar TEAS score and an A in A&P. It just frustrates me to no end that someone will lower grades/scores have been allowed to pursue my passion!

I have to make a comment on here- after reading these posts. I have a few questions. I applied last year for Gateway and was waitlisted- never got in. I received an email when they received my application and all of my statuses said MET. However, they have not updated dates- they are still all from last year (when it wasn't electronic). Does anyone else have this too? I know they receieved my appliation because this year I switched my school of choice around- and it is reflective online. Second, while it is nice to be optomistic about being accepted- the reality is its tough- I dont care what anyone tells you at orientation. I have been waitlisted for two years now. I have a 89.9 TEAS Score, a 2.9 GPA (because I was stupid and took Organic Chemistry for no reason at all and received a D), and I have an A in A&P I. Not only was I waitlisted last year, but I was in the 40's! I didn't stand a chance! Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do at this point except keep applying and hoping after five years my grade will fall off. I have taken every non-nursing course needed for the program. Good luck, just wanted to spread my knowledge of the process from last year. Its all well and good to hope- but always have some sort of Plan B!

SO.... I'll start telling myself next year will be the year. Unfortunately, if its not next year- then its no year at all. Not to sound like I am not 100% wanting to pursue a nursing degree, its just that I have three small children and things like time/school/work need to fit... and so that means one more year of trying. Its so disappointing. I also wish that they could enter your transcirpts somewhere, so that you don't have to keep submitting transcirpts this year... oh well... kangaroo- good luck with A&P again. At least you will have something to focus on.

Just thought I would write in this thread to bump it up a little and perhaps ask if anyone has been taken off the waitlist for GCC? I am telling myself that the 2010-2011 is a no-go for me now, this way if they never get to me, then no harm right? I've decided to focus on the 2011-2012 application process. I know it seems far far into the future- but what else am I going to do. The sad part is that I dont have any classes to take. I've taken all of my non-nursing classes and got B's and mostly A's in them... so its not even worth taking a class over. I guess I will just focus on the TEAS because that seems to be the only thing that I can change this time around. Last year I got an 83.9 but I guess that wasn't competitive enough- since I am in the thirties on the waiting list- just doesn't seem to make sense to me- but I digress. TWO? THATS IT? I was hoping for more too. At this rate- I'll never make it into class for the 2010/2011.

Well- guess that is good news. Hopefully May 3rd will come around and some people decline admission (we can always hope). I wonder what happens to those people assigned to spring semester- do they get first dibs on the declined fall semester opening? At this point I don't care whether is it fall or spring that I get into as long as I get in THIS YEAR! I can't imagine having to do this whole process again! It would be nice to get updates saying something like... we are currently on #(blank) on the waitlist.

I am on the Gateway waitlist. Its the only school I marked off because I was working during the day, and planned to do that during school. I really hope people who got in have accepted other schools or choose not to attend at Gateway (is that horrible of me?). I have all my non-nursing classes completed, I am health-care certified CPR and everything is all set and ready. When people don't show up the first week- do they pull of the waitlist? That seems incredible that people would show that sort of disrespect, but then again I guess its good news for the waitlisters! Where are you waitlisted?

To the people who were accepted into the Nursign program for fall 2010. Is there a date you have to respond back by to hold your spot? I am waitlisted and wanted to know if there was still a glimmer of hope of finding out that I can be placed.

Well, its official... I've been waitlisted for the Gateway program. Got my letter in the mail today. I am devastated. I wonder how far down the list they could get, I mean, how many people actually turn down acceptance? There are 71 people on the waitlist, the letter says. Anyone ever been waitlisted? Can you tell me what number you were? It says that the waitlist is for both fall admission and spring too... Im just so sad right now.

Is anyone wished this weekend away? I hope I find out next week. Do you think they REALLY will go out on Monday? Please post when you get an answer, I'm dying to know when everyone finds out!!! So, lets change the subject a bit and get our minds off of things. How is the class from last year doing? Is there a current Gateway student that could tell us about what kinds of study groups are formed? Or how the clinicals are going? What was the biggest misconception they have found going into the program? I think it would be nice to have actual students at the information sessions- so we could ask questions are get real responses. I feel like after the application is handed in- there is no information given. Maybe a nice letter mailed out that says "thank you for your application" and "this is the process/timeline for creating teh list". It would certainly help with the calls the school must get. If it wasn't for this thread- I would have heard NOTHING about the process since my generic email in January. (I applied in November) Good luck to everyone!!!

This is killing me... I heard that all the final application packages go to Hartford? Is this correct? I know that JBMmommy and hopefullyin are freaking out over the letters they have recieved, but I think my position is worse, since I have received NOTHING since the initial email in January. I wish a "everything looks good" email could go out! So, whats the timeframe? Are our applications in Hartford? How long does that take? Then who sends out the letters? I am trying REALLY REALLY hard not to think about it, but GOSH this is hard!

I can't tell you how excited I am that people are posting on this thread. Cardinal thanks for the bio- I also applied to the GWCC program for this fall- still waiting to hear. Does anyone know the number of applicants for this year? I have this semester off, because all of my non-nursing classes are taken, and I didn't see anything that interested me, but now I feel so "out of the loop" because I am not at school. I plan on trying to get a student nursing position within the hospital (once my first nursing class is completed). I wish they let student take nursing classes duriing the summer months. How wonderful would that be to be able to do a full year and a half and graduate a semester before all the other programs?

Thanks for the advice Ladybug. I think I am leaning toward an Ultrascope. I can always dish out more money later on and get another scope. (maybe even as a graduation present). HOWEVER, I won't be graduating if I don't get into the program... THIS WAITING IS DRIVING ME BONKERS!!! I think I need something else to think (worry) about.

OK, whats your advice on the scope... did you get the teaching scope or a typically adult scope? What have most people in class purchased? I was hoping to go into pediatrics when school is completed- but I can always buy a pediatric scope later.

LBMmommy, thats interesting. So, they listed courses taken at other institutions as missing for you? Could it be because your other transcripts weren't recieved yet? I took most (except life Span dev) at other schools, I was so afraid that they wouldn't get to the right spot- that I had the schools ship to my house, and I included the sealed transcripts with my application. Its sort of scary to think there are MORE applicants than this time last year. YIKES!!! I wish I knew someone at school that could let me know about the process, it is daunting to just wait, and wait. If anyone is in the program now, do you have any good tips on supplies or things you "wish you had/ or wish you knew you would have to get" items... I need soemthing to do while I wait....

OK, so I am writing in thread- to bump it up. I have been reading the other threads and, compared to last year, there seems to be more people posting about BHSN or St. Vincents programs than CTCC programs. Do you think a smaller amount of people applied this year? I applied in November, and got an email in January stating that they were reviewing my application, and that if additional information was needed, another email in January would go out, otherwise anyone who had incomplete applications would be notified by a letter in March. Now I really think I handed everything in, however, this email got my thinking. If I neglected to hand in something, does that mean that my application went to Hartford incomplete, or that my application is not getting ranked with the others (and if that happens how do they rank me?). Last year I tested out of the computer requirement in March. Another girl was testing too, and begged the teacher to let her know if she passed because she had applied to the nursing program and didn't have her computer requirement met... which also means they let her apply and take the test AFTER the February 2nd deadline. This is just a mini rant, because I am waiting and want to make sure that my application is complete and I dont find myself unqualified because I stapled something that I should have paper clipped. I wish they could just send an email to everyone that has a completed application- letting each of us know that everything is fine and our application package is being sent to Hartford. Wow. sounds exciting Matt. are your clinical hours in addition to the lab hours- or do they replace the lab hours (on Tues & Wed). Good luck on your exam. I have heard that most student have an EMT or Paramedic training- do you find that to be true with your class?

Matt- you started this semester right? How is it going? Whats the schedule looking like for you this semester? I tried to get an idea of what days classes would fall on for the fall (I know, Im not accepted yet- but I'm a planner). Monday and Thursday are only 4-5:55? Is that right? Are your clinicals on Tuesdays and Wednesdays? When do you start clinicals? Are those days labs at first and then clinicals? Application deadline has come and gone. I recieved an email stating that if they needed anything else- they would've sent it in an email in January- so I guess Im all set.... nothing left to do but wait. sigh If I get waitlisted, do I get a letter the same time everyone else gets their acceptance letter?

Ladybug, the community colleges take the grades from the last 5 years of college, and also any classes that you are transeferring into the program. For example, I am sure that with a bachelors degree, you have already taken both english classes (that are typically taken during the nursing program)... then both of those grades will also count toward creating your GPA. I have taken all the non-nursing classes for the program, so both english grades, micro, math, psychology classes, sociology grade, and hummanities grades will also count toward my GPA- understand? Hope that helps!

Does anyone know what is going on with the TEAS website. Could it really be that Gateway is not offering ANY TEAS TESTS! The wesbite has changed since I last took it (in Oct) and I am not sure if anyone has been to a nursing info session where they might have said something about the ATI site, or if they want you to take it through another site? Any advice would be helpful.
