  1. I was wondering if I could get some input from those of you who have already applied and/or have been accepted into a nursing program. I have a couple of courses that I received either a D or F grade in, earlier in my college education. These are not pre-nursing prerequisite classes but just general education courses, when I was still unsure of what to do and actually some of the courses I do not even need to fulfill the general education requirements as I already have a bunch of classes I took. I am planning to retake them before applying to nursing school, but I wanted to know if anyone who has experience with this, knows how the nursing schools will look at these? Will the bad grades be calculated in my GPA? Will the grades be averaged out or the bad grades removed and new grade counted? I am in southern California if that helps. I would appreciate any input and help. Thanks.
  2. This site will help you out, it lists all of the CNA programs in California by county: http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/ct/rp/cna.asp#O It looks like in Orange County they have a couple of programs through ROP and they are not too long either.
  3. I'm in the same situation as jill and sashimi, changing my major a couple of times and not doing my best has left me with around a 3.2 gpa. So I am also kind of freaked out and wondering what my chances will be when it comes time for me to start applying. I do agree with bannon's suggestions and that's exactly what I'm trying to do. I'm doing my pre-reqs throughout the next year and will be trying my hardest to get A's in them so at least my pre-req/science gpa will be high. And I'm trying to sign up to volunteer at one of the hospitals nearby. Hopefully my efforts will be enough, I'm planning on applying for Spring 2010. Most likely I will be applying to both ADN and BSN programs just in case :wink2:
  4. Hi, I wanted to make a post to introduce myself and ask a couple of questions. I am completely new to the site and to nursing. I turn 26 years old next week and have decided that I want to become a nurse. After struggling with changing my major several times and being in and out of school and working, I think I have finally made the right choice for myself and I am very excited to move forward with my goals. I am taking my pre-reqs for the ADN programs here in California, I still have to take chemistry, microbio, anatomy, physiology and a few gen ed classes. I am taking some classes this semester and should be finished by Spring 2009, so that I can apply for the nursing program in Fall 2009. Since I'll be trying to get into an ADN program in a California community college, I'm planning to apply to more than one and I hope that I will get lucky and get in somewhere. My question is, is it better to get your ADN and get your RN license first then apply to try to get into a BSN program? I would ultimately like to get my BSN, most likely from a Cal State and from what I read about their BSN programs, they were typically RN-BSN, which is why I'm getting my ADN first. I'm also wondering if that route would be easier for me to get into a BSN program by getting my ADN and RN license first? I really hope to get into a nursing program next Fall, my grades aren't super spectacular as I did mess up a couple of gen ed courses which I will be retaking to get a better grade so that the bad grades can be retracted from my GPA before I apply. I'm thinking my best bet would be to do very well in the pre-req courses so my GPA will be high for those courses and it will also boost my overall GPA up. I appreciate any advice/input from all of you, especially those of you in So Cali, that know about the impacted nursing programs in the community colleges, CSU's and UC's. Looking forward to participating on the forum and chatting with you all :) Thanks for reading my long post lol.
