  1. Hi, Has anyone applied to City of Hopes New Grad program for the February 2013 cohort? The application is due today, and I can't seem to find the app online. Anyone care to direct me to the right place?
  2. Hi LnMaR! Sorry, I got this message a little late, as I have not been on All Nurses lately, but the interview went well. I hope that your interview went well too!
  3. Hey all, I had a question regarding name changes with the BRN. I am not currently licensed, nut plan on taking the test at the end of this month. However, one thing is really bothering me: the last name that the BRN has on file for me is missing one letter. Will this affect the process of me attaining licensure in any way? My Kaplan instructor says that my ATT name and the name on my IDs have to match exactly. But does the name on my BRN app have to match exactly as well (i.e. will this be an issue)? Any insight or similar experiences would be GREATLY appreciated!
  4. congratulations on your acceptance! To my knowledge, you must complete the MSN portion of the program, since the two second-degree programs at APU (SCAN and EENAP) merged. After you complete your pre-licensure courses for your BSN, you can take the MSN courses, either full-time, or part-time while working full-time. My suggestion is to look for scholarships early into your nursing program and also consider working for hospitals that offer loan forgiveness.
  5. Thanks again to all who responded. Yay for nurses helping other nurses! Interviews are definitely a daunting process, especially if they are with the County! And of course, I think there are tons of things I could have improved, but nursing is a constant learning process :)
  6. Thanks for all the input! I will definitely use this advice for my interview next week.
  7. Hello, I was wondering if anyone here has ever interviewed for RN positions at LA county hospitals (i.e. Olive-View, Harbor-UCLA, LAC+USC, Rancho Los Amigos). I'm not sure what to expect, and I would really appreciate a little guidance. Is it just an oral interview, or is there a written exam involved? What should I bring to the interview? Also, what should I do to prepare? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!
  8. Yes, you did, and think you for the info! I figured the Masters portion would be an option now that they merged two programs.
  9. Thanks for the info. Ill check it out. Thats cheaper than my other online option.
  10. Hello all, I was wondering if anyone knew a Research Methods class at a California junior college that could be taken online. The class is usually listed as a Psychology/Sociology class, and I need it as a pre-req. However, I can't go to the actual class, and I need to find one that's completely online. I know of some privates that may offer this, but if anyone knew of a junior college that offers an online course, it would be GREATLY appreciated!
  11. Hi everyone, I was admitted for Summer 2011 at APU's ELM program. I have a question that maybe you guys can answer. I understand that the tuition for the full 3-4 years is around 58k, but is it possible to stop after completing the pre-licensure portion of the program? If so, would I just have to pay for however many units that is? I'm really confused, so any help answering this would be greatly appreciated.
  12. I called them in March because I had sent in my application in November 2009, and hadnt heard back in a while. Shortly after (maybe a week), I received the letter in the mail. So, if you're waiting to find your admission status, I would recommend going ahead and calling them just to check on the status of your application. I haven't received anything else in the mail yet though.
  13. I got in for Fall 2011. They called them and found out, then received a letter in the mail about a week later. I don't really know how to proceed from here though. Has anyone that got accepted received any additional materials from them??
  14. The masters program at Western is more than 2 years. During the first 16 months, students prepare for RN licensure. After they pass the NCLEX, they start working as RNs and take the masters portion online, doing clinicals at various sites around wherever they may be living. Depending on what track you want to take (they have Leadership/Management, Ambulatory Care, Clinical Nurse Leader, or Family Nurse Practitioner), it can take either 5 or 8 more semesters to complete. So, basically it's around 3 years altogether, and with the FNP route, I assume it's around 4. It's a bit of an expensive program, being a private school, but it allows you to work part-time as an RN, which is great. :) As for as nor cal schools go, I haven't applied over there. At the time, I was trying to keep my living costs down, and I don't know anyone who I could live with in nor cal
  15. Yeah, they're nice, polite people over there. But ditto to what the previous poster said. A bit unorganized
  16. The entry level masters programs I applied to are specifically for people with non-nursing degrees. I graduated from a four-year UC school and they didn't offer nursing at my time of application (nor did I want to become a nurse), but I eventually decided in my sophomore year of college that I wanted to pursue it. True, it's competitive anywhere, I've been discouraged from applying to schools down here because of the rejection i've gotten thus far. I really wanted to go to Western U in Pomona, CA, for their Nurse Practitioner program. I almost made it in, but no cigar. I think masters/post-bacc Nursing programs are becoming a little like pharm/med/dental/whatever other health care profession in that going out of state is one of the better options for people like me...or if not that, definitely a viable option. Thanks for the encouragement though :)
  17. Thanks for clarifying that for me! NSC hasnt really been returning my calls or e-mails..so I'm glad someone could explain that process :) I've been applying to a lot of programs in so cal, most of them being entry level masters programs, and thus far, I haven't seen much luck. There are alot of state school nursing programs here, but they are verrrry competitive, and go by a points system, usually with no waiting list (i.e. if I don't get in when I applied this year, I have to wait until the next filing period). Ultimately, I think I'm just running out of patience. Right now, I'm keeping my options open, and still applying to any program I can. I'll still apply to USN but I think tuition is way too much. I also sent an application to NSC as a pre-nursing major, so I'll see how that turns out. I would prefer to do an ADN program over here in so cal, but it's the same deal...points system, super long waitlist..and my core science GPA is not that hot in the first place, so I'd be placed way at the bottom Out-of-state schools seem like a viable option right now. Also contributing to me wanting to move is having a boyfriend that lives in Vegas who can house me and whatnot...but I try not to factor that into my decision.
  18. I've considered applying to NSC, but everytime I try to contact their admissions people, it almost always goes straight to voicemail. It's been a bit hard for me to get info on that school aside from the website. I'm kind of confused as to how the admissions process works, since I don't have all of their pre-reqs. If admitted, I know I would have to take on the "pre-nursing" major to complete those missing classes...but after all of that is out of the way, I'm assuming that won't ensure me a spot in the actual nursing school, since they only take 32 students each fall for their accelerated track. I'll definitely look into it more though. I actually want to move to NV for a bit!
  19. Thanks for the response :) I am worried about the cost..but no matter what accelerated BSN program or MSN I apply to, I think it would be costly anyways. I'm from out-of-state, and going to private school in NV actually costs as much, or less than some of the private schools over here. I'm sure I wouldn't necessarily be guaranteed a job, but I'm hoping the chances of me landing one in NV is better than they are here in so cal. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
  20. Hi all, I has a couple of questions about USN's accelerated BSN program. Does anybody know if this school offers any kind of loan forgiveness program...e.g. one where you could work at a hospital for x number of years, and in turn have them cover some of your school loans. I know MSMC college in LA does that, but thus far, I haven't heard of anything of that nature applying to USN. Also, for people in the program now: were there alot of scholarship opportunities? Or was it fairly limited. If any USN nursing students could apply some insight, I would be extremely grateful. :) I'm applying but I'm a bit concerned about the cost of the program itself.
  21. Bump. Does anyone know if this school has rolling admissions? I'm confused about their deadlines.
  22. Hello all, I'm a pre-nursing student from CA. The prospects of me getting into a masters or accelerated BSN program right now is not too good, and I've currently been looking at schools in Nevada...specifically, Nevada State College. I was wondering if anyone can share their experiences with the NSC accelerated BSN program in terms of admissions, whether it was competitive, and if it is generally a program you would recommend. I'm willing to move over there for school and I'd be extremely grateful for any advice.:)
  23. Hey guys, I know this isn't directly related to nursing programs, but I was wondering if anyone has ever gone through a diploma or certificate program for medical imaging. I'm thinking of applying to the certificate program for Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography at Kaplan college in North Hollywood, but the website doesn't give much information, and the admissions representative hasn't gotten back to me yet. Does anyone have experience with this program, or this school? How much does it cost to go through the program? And do you think it benefited you, in terms of gaining Healthcare experience?
  24. Hi everyone, At the moment, I'm finished with all my science pre-reqs for nursing school. I was pretty satisfied with everything until I found out *dun dun dun* I got a "C" in my Physiology class. I considered retaking it over the summer, so the grade would average out to a "B" at least, however, my boyfriend told me that there are some nursing schools who actually allow you to delete this "C" grade and take it again to have the grade completely replaced. Is this possible in any of the California nursing schools?? Part of me knows what he's saying is complete bunk, but I was just wondering if any nursing schools out here actually have a policy like that. Anyone know??
  25. Thanks for sharing your experience! I was hoping for a 4.0 over at my local community college, but I don't think it will turn out that way after this semester. In terms of pre-reqs, do you think schools look at Anatomy and Physio moreso than the other classes (Chem, Micro, etc)? It's kinda ironic that I stress so much about this because when I was an undergrad, I had that whole "C's for those Degrees" mentality. Now I stress about even earning solid B's in my classes. .
