  1. Just wondering if anyone has a suggestion that perhaps we can do to "improve channels of communication between the Texas Board and outside world?" What a nightmare! Current license in other states and in process of getting my license via endorsement here. Interviewed and accepted a position in mid-april....my start date was/is set for May 17th. The problem: Could not send in my application, etc until the fingerprint cards arrived from the Board. Reqested this packet in April and as of Monday still was NOT here. I was to the point of TOTAL FRUSTRATION DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO EVER GET THRU TO BOARD VIA THE PHONE NO. THEY LIST. No e-mail links are given to access anybody there....So what's a person to do? I DECIDED TO GO TO THE BOARD...(only 6 hours from here) Was able to get fingerprint cards and in the end handed them in everything with my application. Here's the good part----I told the receptionist I'd like to speak to supervisor or person in charge....He looks at me like --Why....Told him I had some concerns and would just like to speak with supervisor about them. He told me if it was about the Phone system...EVERYBODY ALREADY KNOWS THIS....Ends up the supervisor was in a meeting...So I ask to speak to a person who processed the claims....You'd have thought I ask to move the Capitol! We went back and fourth and He was determined I was not speaking to anyone....and I was determined that i was! Luckily for me a lady (one of the processor's) happened to walk out of her office --- so i was able to speak with her briefly. Personally, do not think i was asking to much to actually speak to someone who worked on the applications after driving a total of 12 hours---and over 700 miles! Oh, I did find out the person who mails the fingerprint packets was out on vacation some last week and was out this week.....It will be interesting to see When or IF that darn packet ever comes. Now they say it can take up to 10 working days to process and mail out my temporary permit. Wish I felt more optimistic about receiving it sometime in the near future....but nothing would surprise me at this point. What an adventure this is turning out to be!
  2. Hello, Recently started "application process" for my Texas license via Recprocity." Can anyone tell me "How long did it take the fingerprint cards to reach you?" Requested this online April 29th and still have not received. I have everything else ready, but am waiting on the fingerprint packet. Interviewed for a position and accepted job offer....start date is May 17th. Will start me out as an Extern making less than $10/hr until my temporary permit comes thru. I'm thinking about changing my start date until mid-June...(if they would agree) Don't see how I'm going to have my license any time soon. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
  3. Hello everyone, Recently moved from Pensacola, Florida to the Lonestar State. We live in Texarkana, Tx area. Here's my situation and am wondering if there are other nurses out there in the same boat that I'm finding myself in. Graduated from RN school in 1980 - Worked in hospital setting till 1991....Med / Surg -- both floor and surgical ICU experience. I loved my job! Made decision to stay home after my second son was born in 1991 and haven't worked since that time. Florida is experiencing Critical Nursing Shortages and I'd been wanting to re-enter this career field so while in Florida went thru incredible legnths of "redtape" to get my florida nursing license. Only to find out when applying at hospitals that I "needed a refresher course." (which i totally agree with by the way) The problem is that I COULD NOT FIND ANYONE that offered a refresher course to nurses such as myself. I don't want to go thru the hassle and expense of obtaining a Texas nursing license only to find I can't get a job. So, If there are any nurses out there who have experienced this problem OR are dealing with it...........PLEASE REPLY TO THIS ----WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE! HECK, I'D EVEN BE WILLING TO DRIVE TO DALLAS IF ANY OF THE HOSPITALS THERE OFFER SOMETHING LIKE THIS! Texarkana isn't that big of an area and it would "greatly" surprise me if any of the facilities here offer a refreasher course.....but am gonna start calling to find out. Noticed a lot of post by new nurses......Welcome and wish you all nothing but the best as you embark on your career. Faynell
