  1. I'm a new nurse of 8 months. I currently work on an orthopedic med/surg telemetry floor. Last night I had 9 patients to myself and two other nurses who are newer nurses than I am had 8 and 9 patients each. This isn't a frequent occurence (twice in 8 months for me) but in general the stress level for me is very high. I'm always going home wondering 'did I do everything I needed to do??'. I'm wondering, is home health a less stressful environment? I realize nursing can be stressful no matter where you are working but in general I would think home health would be better. I really enjoyed it during my clinicals and I think my personality would go well with home health. Any opinions would be appreciated!
  2. Hi, I was told that we had to pay 7.95 on a website to see if we passed our boards. Does anyone know of a free website we can look at to see if we passed? I've seen a few postings talking about checking the BON website but I dont know where that is.... The whole nclex thing is a money scheme and I'd love to avoid paying anything extra to them :) Thanks!
  3. Jimmy- SATA = select all that apply (I wondered the same thing myself) To study for Nclex I think the best thing to do is answer a TON of questions. I left nursing school thinking Nclex would be a breeze. I was WRONG. It was like no test I had ever taken in nursing school. I mean the style of questions were the same as school, but the questions were so much harder IMO. Our school made us purchase a program called Emeds. It was 90$ each semester (fortunately we had financial aid) and it gave us access to a website where they had tons of practice test questions. The teachers made us spend time on the site and gave us points for class. And at the end of the year Emeds gave us a NCLEX review class. My husband and I didn't go to the review class because we went one day and the teacher was basically reading from a book she had handed out. We took the book and got out of there and studied on our own with the Emeds website and the book answering tons of questions. We did the pearsonvue trick and if it is correct then we passed. We won't get our quick view results till Tuesday though...
  4. I'll bet that was a "test" test question. They have up to 15 on each test, questions that they are trying out for future tests. I got several on things I wasn't taught in school so I'm hoping thats what those were too... PS Your user name should have been emailed to you through PV sometime when you registered...
  5. OH and I got that RSV question and I was like WTH???!! I didn't have a single thing about RSV in EITHER of my NCLEX prep books, in fact, not even in my notes from school. I felt like most of the topics on the test today were not covered in school. What is your school's passing standard? Our program head said that 90% from our school passed first time and 100% passed the second time.
  6. Hey, I think you and I had basically the same test! I took mine today. (see my post, you'll find some reassuring answers) The more I think about it the more I feel ok. All of my friends (4 who are RN's) had their test cut off at 75 q's and they all passed first time. I'm gonna try that pearsonvue trick thing and see if it works...
  7. Thanks to all! My biggest fear was the lack of math but its reassuring to hear that others had no math and still passed. My hope is that I got most of the hard ones right and so the computer didn't see the need to give me basic questions. I was SO surprised that I didn't get a single Dig question or Lasix, K, or heparin question, all the things I was advised to study!! I guess we will see. Thanks to all for their answers!
  8. My husband and I went to nursing school together and we just took the NCLEX today. Both of us got 75 questions and not a single math question! That terrifies me. Aren't they going to give a nurse math questions to make sure they're competant??! We studied for days but we didn't get questions that were on what we studied. We both feel like we failed it. Alot of people I know felt the same way as me with 75 questions and they passed, but a girl at the test center said most of her friends with 75 questions failed theirs. AGHHH. What is your experience with NCLEX? Has anything similar happened to you???
  9. That is so scary to me! That seems like a simple mistake! I feel like I just have information shoved in me at school and I can barely remember any of it yet. I hope that I can recall it to mind when I need it...
  10. I'm just curious, if a nurse loses their license for some reason, can she/he ever get it back? If so what does she have to do in order to obtain it? I'm watching ER and watching the nurse make some pretty out there presumptious decisions and it got me thinkin :) If all goes well I will be a nurse by next spring but so many things scare me (like losing my license!).
  11. I appreciate the advice. I will probably have to wait until I graduate to approach the instructor. We have the same instructors until the end of school in May 09.
  12. Thats how its been with every other class except for one other one. Is it the forgetfulness of the teacher or do they not require it if the teacher has been teaching there many years?
  13. when do we get to evaluate them? We never got the chance to evaluate our 1st year instructors...
