  1. This is the problem with depression is that you lose interest in things you once found enjoyable. I am trying to get back into fitness as it in itself is its own antidepressent and I will put more effort into finding other things to get excited about.
  2. Thanks everyone for the input. I feel like it would be a wise choice to make a move, just so long as I can find a place to go that will be better off and not just a lateral move to another medicine unit. I applied for a cardiac surg position yesterday within my current hospital and am keeping my eye open on the job boards. I'm kinda kicking myself now because I was offered an outpatient clinic job about 6 months ago at a neighboring hospital, but I turned it down largely for the fact that it offered less hours and thus less pay. The next challenge will be finding something that will help me improve my mental health, but also offer enough hours to pay the bills. If only life was less expensive.
  3. I certainly hope it doesn't get closed for that reason. For the record I'm just seeking opinions thats all.
  4. I was hoping to get some input from others who have been in my shoes before. So my situation is that after just 3 years of working as a nurse on an oncology/medicine/palliative care unit the sadness of seeing what my patients and families go through has really taken its toll on me. Also the negativity, high work load/stress and lack of care from management adds to it. Just 2 days ago after about 1.5-2 years of dealing with this I finally admitted I was depressed. I am seeking counselling now and have an apt to see my family doc re: meds if he thinks I need them, but am also exploring the idea of changing units or jobs and was looking to get some feedback. I am wondering from those who have dealt with this before did moving units or changing jobs help relieve your nursing induced depression? I am exploring the option of a cardiac surg unit or possibly clinic work or whatever else comes up. Sometimes I just want to quit nursing and find a simple job, but financially thats not realistic.
  5. WHile on the topic I should ask something similar. I did CEGEP about 10yrs ago, I did one semester to get my physics pre-req for the next year, but still had to attend a full course load. Now since I only needed the one course I ended up just not going to or not giving it much effort to the courses that I didn't care to attend. I did great in 3 of the 6 courses I was signed up for, but the others were bad. The next year I attended an aviation program that turned out to be a joke, it was new and mismanaged, I struggled and ended up moving out of town after just over 1yr of the program with poor marks and to top it off the program coordinator never properly coded my courses to show that I moved out of town, instead they all show fail or incomplete or something along those lines. I am applying as a mature student and wonder do I really need to declare that I was in CEGEP for that time? Just worried they will hold that against me even though my current pre-req's that I am doing are going great, high 80's. What should I do? could I get in trouble for leaving it out?

Your co-worker can contact the local labor board to file a complaint or contact an employment lawyer. If she were infact wrongly dismissed she could sue her employer.
  7. The problem with doing that is that when I call admissions I usually end up talking to a student that only knows the general admission requirements for each program and not the in's and out's of the actual selection process. Trying to talk to someone in the nursing dept is hard I have found, messages not returned or people are just not available.
  8. I've done my research for the admission requirements for mature student so I know whats needed, but can't find any info on what the schools look at for a mature applicant. My situation is that I will be applying to all the GTA schools for their BScN programs, but because I don't have the equivalent Ont high school diploma I'm forced to apply as a mature student which is cool. I have been told by some schools that I need to submit my Quebec HS diploma and my CEGEP grades, but the BIG question is will those marks be used to guage my overall average for admissions OR will they soley look at the average mark from my pre-req's that I am working on now? I'm concerned because my high school and CEGEP marks back some 10yrs ago when I was young and more interested in hanging with friends and going the teenager thing were less than stellar, say low 70's, but as I see it I hope to have an overall average of high 80's for my 4 pre-req's. Can any mature students here help me out? Thanks Ryan
