  1. I've always wondered about this as well. I don't really want to wear my scrubs home, but I don't want to change into new clothes without showering. Contaminate my car or contaminate my clothes and have to change when I get home. I don't know. :-\
  2. I currently have a job working with mentally disabled children. I have one kid who is in his late teens and a total nightmare. His mom has never scolded him for doing bad things like my other kids, so this one is wild. He's a messy eater and only eats finger foods. Apparently his family also considers mashed potatoes as finger foods. He runs around the house burying the food in couch cushions, smearing it on the walls, and just touching everything that is hard to clean. Not to mention he thinks I'm his walking hand towel and seeks me out when he has a particularly sticky substance to get rid of. He drinks his milk/juice so fast that he usually chokes on in and spits it up all over himself. Sometimes when he's being a fussy eater and I tell him to finish his dinner, he will chew a little of it and spit it out at my face. But this isn't the worst part. The worst is changing his diaper. He hates it! He pulls hair, hits, kicks, you name it. He squirms around making it nearly impossible to keep the goods in the diaper during removal. He's always reaching around trying to get to the gold mine. If he succeeds, he will throw it at me or pull my hair. At the end of a good day, I want to end my job. At the end of a bad day, I want to end my life! So tell me. If I'm so burned out on this, do you think I'd last working 2nd or 3rd shift as a CNA (preferably 3rd shift)? Thanks for your advice and help!
  3. Hello all, I'm very interested in joining the military and working as a nurse. I was told that if the military pays for your nursing or MD training, they basically own your soul. This means that at any point in your life, they can pull you back into service. I've heard about doctors losing their multi-million dollar practices because they were called into service later in life. And 70 year old doctors called out of retirement. Being that there is such a bad nursing shortage, I'm concerned about getting uprooted and put back into the service at some point. However I've always dreamed of moving to Europe. What would happen if I moved to Europe and established citizenship? Could I ever be deported back to the U.S. because I was called into service? Thanks! *Tried posting this earlier, but I think my internet died. Sorry if it double-posts*
  4. This is great for us beginners! Keep it goin! Thanks!
  5. Wow! Where did you find a free program? I'm trying to get in contact with a nursing home that offers a program, but I'm not sure how long it is.
  6. I'd like to become a nurse eventually as I'm currently taking the pre-reqs. However I'm just drowning in debt and I'd like to work as a CNA in the mean time. I was told not to attend a freestanding program because it won't count towards my degree. Are there any freestanding programs that are an exception to this rule? I'm in Baltimore, MD. My friend said it'd be better off to take the class at the community college. But that's 4 months of classes that can honestly be done in about a month like the freestanding programs offer. Also, I'd have to wait another 7 months before going to school. Thanks!
  7. I'm interested in getting my 2yr degree as a nurse, so I'm wondering if this program will count as credit towards that? Do only community college CNA programs count towards your associates in nursing?
