Care council membership
I forgot to mention that if one chooses to attend the meetings they clock in and are paid as if they were working on the floor.

Care council membership
I am the co-chair of my unit's care council and one of the issues that we are having is low (and somertimes no) attendance of the meetings. We meet once a month to discuss issues within the unit. The other chair and I always advertise and personally invite people to attend or let us know any questions or concerns that they would like the council to address. Some of the things we have accomplished in the past are uniform changes and getting a new breakroom closer to the patient care area. I would appreciate any ideas on how to increase involvement by the staff. Our director is very open to changes and suggestions by the council and I feel that we could accomplish a lot if there was more participation. Please share any experiences any of you may have had with this or any suggestions. Resus

Reglan and Compazine IV push policies?
We give compazine a lot for migraines and it works wonders for the patients. Our docs always order Benadryl to go with it and I have never had a problem with reactions. Same goes with reglan as we are on a compazine shortage.

Still penny pinching
I get gas station coffee instead of starbucks. 88 cents instead of 4 dollars. Daily's has great coffee wirth flavored creamers. As mentioned before the crock pot should be your best friend. I am a fast food hound but it costs entirely too much. I also used to wonder why some other nurses seemed to go on all these vacations and have these huge diamond rings, then I talked to a few and found that they have huge credit card debt. I may not have the fanciest clothes or jewels or go on cruises every 6 months but I have zero credit card debt. Learning to live within my means is still hard but worth it.

true or false?
I work in the er of a level one trauma center approx 844 beds in FL. Our census has been down for several months. It is a strange situation as we are all used to having ed patients in the hallways. People have been getting cancelled even if they are not on overtime. We are hering that there aren't even any places to float. Most of us are really worried and tryiing to find prn positions elsewhere. I guess I, personally, have gotten too used to getting a bunch o overtime. So yeah, i know what you are going through.
