my baby sister has breast cancer
I know about feeling the need to have to research this, understand it, know it, wrap your whole brain around it...but it is not going to make you feel better. The way I see it, is even if you found information stating a very very good prognosis and an extremely low fatality rate...you would still focus right now on the smallest percentage of fataility...because you love sissy so much. It is our nature as nurses to "need to know" it all, but it is our nature as women, mothers, daughters, and sisters to worry about the worst. DON'T do that, try to listen to those words...God has a plan. Keep us up to date of what is going on. Oh, and I hope dh can give you the support you need right now...xoxo

my baby sister has breast cancer
Leslie, I am combining my hugs to you with all of the others you've recieved here! I fear I am losing my "daddy" to his battle with cancer right now. I have tried to remain very positive, supportive, and loving...but I can no longer ignore the fear that is creeping in. My husband and I will pray especially for you and your family tonight. I hope you find what information you need to find any comfort, but please remember Him and the comfort you may find in Him. I am sorry I do not have any other information, and can only offer my loving thoughts. Take care...

Contraceptives and Weight Gain
Thank you for sharing Caroline, and I totally agree with the hardworking and eager part of your post...I hate laziness in ALL aspects of my life and it is totally unacceptable in the bedroom. And it is very refreshing when a man is concerned with pleasing me, not himself, which then brings him pleasure. I thin this characteristic isn't developed in a man untill his late 40's or early 50's...just my experience....and yes, we NEVER had this talk Friday is my day to remove my "Patch" and for my period to begin. I am not ready to have another baby yet. I have three girls ages: 6,3,and 2 years. Permanent measures are not an option for us, I think we both want at least one more maybe two more babies....I think. Friday I will peel it off and that's it. I am tired of not feeling like myself. Any suggestions on condoms girlies (oh yah, and a guys point of view is helpful too)? Do they all smell like tires?

Anatomy and Physiology HELP!!!!!
Some good advice going on here, especially about reviewing everyday...YES! You absolutely need to look at your notes/books/diagrams every single day. Even if it is for just 10 minutes, it is better than not at all. I often looked at my notes -while on the treadmill at the gym -drinking my morning coffee -in between classes -right before A & P -right after A & P -laying in bed at night (warning: may cause a sound sleep:chuckle) -and if we went ANYWHERE that might involve an office waiting room including a "wait", yep I studied them there too! Also, I knew when I had really "gotten" the material was when I could explain it to my husband, in my own words, and he could understand the material. A lot of it was better understood "in my own words" rather than exactly memorizing, word for word, what the textbook said.

First Clinical in Oncology!
Heidi, Sounds like you WILL do a great job, and because of this future preparation and research you are doing you will be a bit more comfortable-- though not totally.... see ya later, alligator.

First Clinical in Oncology!
I am just starting out too, but I would like to pass on advice my instructor gave everyone the first day of our clinicals...."You are learning, you are students, we do not expect you to know everything or be experts"....yadda, yadda. She went on to say that even as professional nurses (not student nurses) we are still always going to be learning. This made me feel really comfortable, well I guess I should say more comortable. I would have to say for the cancer patient....how is their nutrition? Some Chemo's cause a bad taste in mouth and can lead to anorexia, so there could be fluid or nutritional imbalances to look for. Also Impaired Skin Integrity for the patient recieving Rads.... And definitly do a thorough Psych/Soc Assessment....look for support from family, fears of dying, Spiritual Distress, etc.,etc. I am in my first year as well, but have many people in my life with cancer, and am interested in this field. Hope this helps....and let me know how you did;)

Rn Student Preparation
I totally agree with EVERYTHING cheerful said here....:) I remind myself to slow down everyday, sometimes multiple times a day. It seems like every Prof. wnat something different from us, and no matter how prepared I think I am, there's someone else who shows up with a prettier binder with way more tabs:chuckle Know what I mean....bottom line is ONE DAY AT A TIME, ONE CLASS AT A TIME. I don't know if those software programs really give you any kind of an edge over all of us other students who are doin' it the "old fashioned" way of textbooks and workbooks. Anyone else with two cents jump in here...

If you would explain further as to exactly what kind of problems you are having, or what kind of help you think you need I would LOVE to help you. I actually tutor A & P students now and am a first year RN student myself. I loved A & P and feel confident I could help ya.....let me know on this board, or if you want you can PM me.....DON'T GIVE UP....

Contraceptives and Weight Gain
I think I would rather gain five pounds rather than have a decrease in sex drive... about the Depro: were you overweight to begin with? How much did you lose? Did you have a decrease in appeptite or did it fall off? Have you had any kids? Sooooooo intereseted in this shot, let me know. This is my last cycle for the "Patch," my hubby hates the mood swings... wich brings us right back to the decrease in sex drive :)

Contraceptives and Weight Gain
I am currently training to compete in a bodybuilding show, have been lifting for six years, but have only been on the "Patch" for 3 mos. My question/problem is I think I have been retaining some extra fluid from this. I have gained 5 #s but originally contributed it to my training....however, now I am thinking it is WATER. I don't know if it is all psychological because I know the effects of estrogen on the female body, but I am really feeling puffy. I work out strenuously, eat right religously, and do not drink alcohol. What's with my puffy tummy?? Anyone else have a "Patch" horror story? I think I need to get off it, but don't know what other B.C. pill to choose? Suggestions? Yah, I know there are other B.C. options, but this one is really convienient for me. Sorry for the bad typing, been craming for a NUR 1201 final.
