Dosage Calculations
Thank you all so much for the valuable information. I practiced all night do some problems and got it. It wasn't the math that was the problem it was setting the problem up correctly that posed the biggest challenge. I really appreciate all the help!!!!!

Dosage Calculations
I just started nursing school this week and find dosage calculations very confusing. Can anyone recommend some supplement material/books that you found very helpful. I've been out of school over ten years so I'm looking for something that's easy to understand. Thanks!!!

Dosage Calculations
I just started SELU's accelerated nursing program this week. Our first two classes are only 12 days long. We just started doing dosage calculations and it is very confusing. The instructor just goes over it like its a refresher course and doesn't actually teach. I have to admit that being over 35 my brain probably doesn't work as fast as some of the younger students. The instructor said that there's 3 ways to do it but that she would only teach using dimensional analysis bc thats what she uses and she finds it easier. The other two ways we would have to learn on our own if we wanted. Can anyone recommend some supplemental books or resources that would help me. Our test is next 6/01/09.

BSN vs ADN
Thanks joyart24! SLU was my first preference. I only applied to Delgado as a back-up plan.

BSN vs ADN
I have been accepted into both Charity School of Nursing for Aug. 09 and Southeastern's Accelerated Program which begins in May. CSN is 24 months long and SLU is 20 months long. Does it really matter if a nurse has a BSN as oppose to the ADN? I do intend to go back for my masters. I've heard both are really good schools and although SLU has a higher passing rate on NCLEX, CSN is not far behind. CSN is alot cheaper and closer to home but I don't mind the inconvenience if getting a BSN is more advantageous both financially and professionally. I am a single mother of one teenage daughter who will be leaving for college in Aug. So I'll have the time I need to study. Anyone's input would be greatly appreciated. I have to make a decision by Monday. Thanks!!!!

REJECTED for OLOL accelerated East Jeff
Hi angelp71 Please don't give up. I too am a single mother with 1 teenage daughter. I have a BS in Biology and have been rejected by OLOL twice (just received letter yesterday). I started working on pre-reqs in January for OLOL. I only needed two. Since then I have been taking classes over to get better grades. I have made all A's in my last 4 classes....Nursing is way to competitive for Bs and Cs. I work fulltime and attend class at night. I took A&P II over this summer...took it 14 years ago. It was so INTENSE with 2 test a week for 6 weeks. I would work all day and study all night. Sometimes going to sleep around 8 or 8:30...waking up at 12 or 1 am and studing until it was time to leave for work. It is not easy and YES very disappointing when you've worked so hard. I have talked to people in nursing dept at Nicholls State, SELU and UT Houston and have taken most pre-reqs for those schools as well. I will be applying to all their programs for Spring 09. If that fails, they'll hear from me again. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

SELU vs Nicholls State
hi linnywho.... thanks for the info. i guess i have to decide what's more important...school status or teacher's support. i'm single and have only have 1 daughter who will be a senior this school year so i won't have all of the family demands others have. sooooo it looks like it'll be selu if accepted. thanks again!!

American Mobile
This has been the most useful information I have found on this site since joining...which was a few days ago. However, I have been spending hours each day reading some of the information. My goal is to become a travel nurse for a few years before settling down into a more stable position. Although I won't start NS til Spring '09, already trying to map out a plan. Thanks again!!!!!

OLOL Admissions
Hi.... OLOL now requires a minimum 3.0 GPA to be considered for the BSN accelerated program for all 3 campuses (Tulane, WJ & EJ). You can check with the school to confirm.
