Workplace Bullying-Nursing or 7th Grade?
I am a Charge Nurse in an ED trying to combat Horizontal Violence (HV). I am one of the nurses getting bullied. They have gone all the way to the CNO with reports that I don't have the necessary certifications for my position. (I do.) They have started rumors about my family and me. (My spouse is having an affair. I am having an affair.) They are bullying one of my nurses to the point that she is experiencing sever physical ailments. I have tried to address it. I have documented and reported each of my experiences. I had the nurse document her experiences; talk to the Director; talk to the CNO. Her story is harrowing. So far nothing has happened to change it. I love my job, and it is great when those nurses aren't there, but I am considering leaving my profession because this is not how I want to live my life. I am currently trying to deal with a strategy to implement in my work environment to address the problems. I figure that if I focus on solving the problem I may be more inclined to stick it out until it is better. Has anyone seen anti-bully programs that work?

Narcotic Administration in ER
I am curious what hospitals around the country are doing regarding narcotic administration to patients with no ride home present, no ride home period, or the homeless population. We have to treat a patient's pain, but NSAID's are either not enough, or are flatly refused. I am curious if there are written protocols out there, or if ER nurses are using a unwritten protocol. I feel like I am being squeezed between angry patients, frustrated doctors, and an unhelpful management. Thanks.

How do I make these "Measurable Outcomes"
I am working on a Care Plan of Disturbed Thought Process. Pt is confused (Alzheimer-like symptoms). I have a hard time making subjective Expected Outcomes into measureable Goals. Any help? Are these even good expected outcomes? 1) Absence of confusion 2) No inappropriate responses 3) Ability to follow simple commands 4) No longer needs restraints 5) Responds to commands appropriately Tamara:banghead:

Choosing IV catheter lumen
I think that I understand needle gauge. It seems fairly straightforward and logical. However, how many ports/lumen do I really need?
