Hem-onc patients dies unexpectedly
hi I had a horrible night a week ago...one of my patients died unexpectedly and i can't seem to forget the event. She was my pt. for 2 previous shifts. I knew she had low baseline BP, and SOB and was being treated for that. She was also transfused with platelets (plt=4) during day shift. When I came in she was doing fine, at midnight she was little SOB but it was not out of the ordinary, she recieved IV lasix for that 2 hrs prior to that. At 2 in the morning the nurses aide came up to me and told me that she was dead. I was very shocked. She was DNR, palliative pt and 93yr old but the death was very unexpected. I find myself guilty for not calling the doc for SOB and low BP at the time. She could have had more lasix to help with SOB. But looking at the situation, this was similar to her previous night. I was surprized that the family coped much better than I thought. I still think something could have been done in this situation. Did anyone do thru similar situation, and what did u do to cope.

online MSN study....?
I am interested in applying for an online MSN program...I was wondering if it is much harder than onsite...i.e advisors can only be contacted via e-mail...you don't get to know fellow students.Any advise from nurses who have taken online program... thanks in advance!!!

new grad in trouble
I am new grad who started 3 mos ago in a medicine unit. Last week we had 2 nurses who called in sick, that day was very overwhelming for me. I had pts who needed platelets and RCC and other patients who had chronic pain issues. My manager came up and spoke to me regarding my patient's family complaining that I failed in provding good nursing care. I felt very bad about it and was almost crying when she was talking to me. It was an impossible day for me when tasks did not seem to end. I gave my 110% but still failed. I don't know what happened. No one has ever complained about me and now I fear about my job. what shd I do and any feedback/advice thanks in advance

New grad and working part time
hi I graduated 5 months ago and started my first job with full time hours. I found I really don't like bedside nursing that it was causing too much stress for me...i was unable to get enough sleep and was getting more and more frustrated with work, now i am working part time and it is working fine for me. I feel that even though part time is good for now will it have negative affect on my career? I am also thinking of applying to grad school next year or get another job that is not bedside nursing. ...any advice from fellow nurses... thanks in advance

McMaster Nursing? Is it worth it?
hi I just graduated from the program....if you like talking in small groups and have good conversational skills then this program is great for you.. .working in small groups can be great learning experience, but it can be frustrating if you have to solve problems on ur own and the tutor just sits there...i enjoyed the last yr of problem based tutorials...as far as writing lots of papers...yes it can be a bit too much but it also prepares for further studies...
