  1. Lansing nurses:

I worked at Ingham Regional and like it very much. It's not as large as Sparrow therefore it tends to be a friendlier place. It is also the cardiac hospital in the area if you are interested in that field. As for what area is good. I live in the C...
  2. You know you're canadian when...

I don't have any 'you knows' to add but just wanted to say ... I have lived in Michigan for 10 years now and though I have been on a number of airline flights around the U.S. and have always noticed that the emergency exits are ID'd in 2 languages, t...
  3. RPN canada want to work as LPN US

Whether it be an RN / RPN / secretary job the best and quickest way to get to Michigan is to apply for jobs in Michigan. When the hospital / company agrees to hire you they (the hospital) can help you get the working visa. It is much quicker to get...
  4. Canadian nursers leaving to work in the USA.

I left 12 years ago with no regrets. I'm now in a position that I could never have in Canada and enjoy it everyday.
  5. US Regulations

Has anyone heard about these new regulations the US is requiring for foreign nurse, including Canadian to have? I just heard the tail end of it on the news today. I am living in Michigan so probably won't be affected by it but I am concerned about ...
  6. Divorce & Nursing

Interesting thread. I've wondered what the divorce rate is for RN's, especially the higher level; management, administration. Seems the higher level of nurse, the higher divorce rate. No divorce here though, married for 19 years and going strong!
  7. RN Difference

I believe that you are not a "Registered' Nurse until you pass the boards. When you graduate, you are considered a graduate nurse from a 'nursing program'. Registered does not take effect until the passing of the boards. Yes?
  8. What are we... Nurses or Scientists?

Maybe a different title would change the public's impression of what RN's do. I'm thinking that we might be 'Healthcare Engineers'. Seems a lot of professions like to use that 'engineer' title, even a sanitation engineer seems to get more respect!
  9. I hate it when people say this...

Hubby is an RN as well. When people ask me 'what does your husband do?' I tell them, 'he's an RN as well'. Response, "Oh a male nurse"? Well, he is male and he is a nurse so I guess he is a male nurse. I'm a female nurse. It irritates me how pe...
  10. Maryland Lottery Commercial

I think you're reading more into than there is. Let it go ... life is too short!
  11. I graduated from a Canadian school but never actually worked as an RN in Canada. I immediately took a position in Detroit. It was OK but didn't feel that I got the mentoring I should have. Later I moved to a mid Michigan hospital and was much happ...
  12. Nurses marrying doctors

Maybe some do. I don't think its the majority by any means. More than anything I think its just that's how the younger people are these days. Showing belly buttons, etc seems to be the norm these days. Younger people seem to go by the creed 'if yo...
  13. vegetative state

Would anyone want to be kept alive in this situation? I think not. It's not a life at all. I don't mean to sound cold hearted or anything but this is also a drain on the health care system that is overloaded as it is. We can't take proper care of...
  14. odor of cigarette

I experienced the same thing while living in an apartment complex. Must have been coming from one of the other apartments. Are you the only one in your household that is smelling this? Also smelled it once while walking along a country road, no one...
  15. Old RN Magazines

I have a bunch of old RN magazines from 1998 to current. Does anyone know if there is someplace that can use these? It seems a shame to just throw them out but I am running out of room to store them. Thanks!
  16. Need info regarding other RN jobs

Blue Cross in Michigan hires RN's in different capacities. Mainly the requirement is 5 years med/surg experience for an entry level job such as in the pre-auth area. Other areas available are a utilization type of work. Also Blue Cross has a call-i...
  17. Where do you nurse?

    Insurance company - utilization review
  18. "foreign" objects?

I've heard some strange stories over the years too. What I don't quite get is the 'golden oldies' who are not 'with it'- many of them seem to be so fixated on their private parts. What's up with that?
  19. aspartame scare

I have heard about this in the past. Not sure how reliable the source was that I heard it from. Whether it does cause these symptoms or not it is a chemical and probably should be avoided if possible.
  20. Introductions

Hi to all. I am in the mid-michigan area, married and child-free. Born and raised and nurse trained across the border from Detroit. Have been in the mid-michigan area for 12 years now.
  21. Fun Things to do in Michigan

The weekend after Labor Day - Sept 5, 6 & 7 is Frontier Days in Charlotte (20 miles SW of Lansing). If you like rodeos and cowboys this is the place to be!
  22. Rude nursing comments

Stevierae's reply reminded me of my own Dad's comments. Dad believed that I should find my self a good husband with a good job who would take care of me ... yeah I did that then after being married for 2 years I decided to go to Nursing School (with ...
  23. Online CEU courses

I have found a company that offers free CEU's, supposed to be for Doc's but Nurses can also attend and get the credit. It's http://www.optimaed.com. Sessions available in larger cities.
