Relocating to Richmond area
I too am thinking of relocating to the Richmond area. I am an ER/Trauma RN w/ 4 yrs experience. What's the best, craziest, busiest place to work in the area? And anyone have an idea about starting wages? Also... can anyone give me any info about the Richmond Ambulance Authority? My husband is a paramedic with 10+ yrs experience, and he is trying to find out some info/pay rates, etc. Thanks for any help you can give!! ~Amanda :)

ER nursing in NC
Where in Ohio?? We actually had considered it at one point - not exactly sure why we stopped looking there.... Anyway, my husband is a paramedic and doesn't especially want to join a fire department - he works for a private company out here that does 911 transports and loves it. I think we had difficulty finding any 911-running deptartments in Ohio that weren't fire - any suggestions since you see the guys roll into the ER would help immensely!! Thanks again! ~Amanda :)

Moving to Vegas-HELP!
I am just talking ER - I would hate to work at a hospital that transfers out a lot of patients because they don't have specialties - but that is my opinion. Also didn't like their attitude toward new grads when I first applied there a few years ago. So glad I picked Sunrise - I think our patient care is the best around - at least in the ER - it's the only place I would go if I were truly ill. ~Amanda

ER nursing in NC
You guys rock!! Thanks for the info!! Cost of living isn't as bad in Vegas as everyone thinks - once the housing market crashed, you can find really nice houses for around $230-$250,000 in great areas. Pay is great - I am actually working PRN at a hospital now and making $42.64/hour. If I didn't have a son to consider, we would never move - but the school systems here are horrible - and the people are just not the down-home friendly bunch you can find back east. I am originally from Ohio - so I get that my pay won't be as much - I was just expecting a little more than the $21-$22/hour.... we work too hard to be paid that!! Thanks again... and keep the help coming!!! ~Amanda :)

ER nursing in NC
Hi all! I need some help! I currently work in a busy Las Vegas ER - over 3 years experience. My family and I are considering a move to North Carolina - but I couldn't believe the pay difference!! I am making $32/hr FT now - and I was quoted $21.55/hour in North Carolina!! ICK!! Do any of you know some hospitals there that would pay more - I am looking in the Raleigh area. If not - any areas in the East/Southeast/Northeast that pay more and have decent areas to live?? I am thinking I will have to do travel or agency just to make ends meet there. I can't find a decent house online for less than $250,000. HELP!!!! Thanks! ~Amanda:no:

Unsure about moving to NC now
I am currently living in Las Vegas, and working F/T making $32/hour with 3 yrs experience in ER. I contacted Duke in NC, and they quoted $21.55/hour! Don't tell me the COL is THAT much lower in NC than NV!! I was looking online at housing and can't find anything reasonable for less than $250,000 - there's no way I could afford that making $21/hour!! Any suggestions on other hospitals that may pay more? Other states that are nice with good school districts?? Any help would be greatly appreciated - we are looking to move May 2009, but are still open to suggestions to locations! Thanks, Amanda

COL vs rn salaries in NC
I am having the same issue - moving from Las Vegas to the Raleigh area next May - I couldn't believe the pay difference!!! I am making $42/hr (PRN) - or $32/hr if I were to have benefits. I just got a quote from Duke that I would be starting at $21/hour!! I started as a NEW GRAD at over $26/hr!!!! I have been looking at housing - and everything I find is $250,000 and above. My family and I can afford that now with what I am making here - but not if I take that drastic of a pay cut!!! Any advice? Any hospitals you know that pay more?? Any areas that are safe/nice/good school districts/etc to live in that aren't so expensive?? Thanks for any help you can throw my way! Amanda

Moving to Vegas-HELP!
I am currently an RN in the ER at Sunrise Hospital - I can tell you it is the BEST hospital in Vegas!! Pay is competitive - I don't know for sure about IMC RN's, but ER starts around $27/hr for new grads. Benefits are great - and Sunrise is a "team". As for St Rose....I wouldn't step foot in that hospital if you paid me!! The only other hospital I would recommend is UMC - but I am all for big crazy places to work. Summerlin is a nice hospital in a better area of town - as is Spring Valley. Look into a lot of different places and interview! You will "know" as soon as you walk in whether or not it feels like home! Amanda
