I worked for Bayonet Point Hospital in Pasco county and the nurses alone were represented by the union. I found that all it did was cause us more problems than anything. There was severe retaliation, firing of almost all of the nurses that started the union wave. They pitted non-union workers and union workers against each other at EVERY turn. I only worked there when the first contract started and I saw no difference in pay, ratios, or anything positive for that matter! HCA is a rotten place to work BUT in that area I would have to say that it is a less of the evils. I now work at Florida Hospital and have moved to the Orlando area. I know now what it is like to be appreciated and for my hard work to be rewarded. PLUS the pay is way better! All that said I would have to say that I think unions are BAD! LOL

You sound just like me! I was 17 when I started at PHCC and an RN at the age of 20! I worked at Bayonet Point Hospital for almost 10 years. I am here to say that all the hospitals in that area are rough to work for but you have to find your place. I would recomend BPH over the other hospitals in the area. I live in Orlando now and the pay is better, and management seems to care a little more than BPH. I am not 100% sure but I think BPH still has the Union in place. I was there when it was voted in and thought it was going to save us but it did not. I left shortly after and I am not sure if it is any better. I will say this for sure....some of the BEST people work at that hospital! LIFELONG friends were made! I hope it all works out for you! Take care and CONGRATS!!!!
